Is anyone still doing the frequent wash thing and seeing results or am i the only one... I no that over the christmas break i had crazy growth from upping the washes and I've been trying to keep it up after a (stupid) major cut... anyway i just wanna know if anyone is doing this and if it is working for them... also what poo are u using and how often are you washing?

I know some of you cowash frequently but i cowash every other day and wash w/CON poo every other day

Yep. I'm on a 2yr C&G challenge, and part of that is washing the scalp daily. I've been pre-pooing w/Vatika oil 2x week, and moisturizing with Scurl or pure aloe vera gel. It seems to be helping.

I'm natural with a TWA that is actually growing. I use some topical growth aids that I think are helping. How does daily/frequent washing help the hair with growth? Any theories?

Well i had been reading up on frequent washing on the boards and this is the basic theory in a nutshell

can't remember who exactly pointed this out but:
Many of the topical growth aids that seem to be working for many board members are antifungal (i.e. MN & MTG) which equals cleaner hair... also many women of other ethnicities wash their hair very frequently(whites, latinas, indians, etc...) and it is common knowledge that it is generally easier for them to grow their hair than black women and women of african descent, many of whom have been trained to think that they shouldn't wash there hair more than once a week

Also it is a common viewpoint on lhcf that cowashing more often aids in growth... cowashing is a way to get clean hair without stripping it of natural oils

plus it's a good way to get a good scalp massage!

anyway i tried this and these are the results i saw in 26 days... the only thing i changed about my routine was the washing(with CON poo)

of course i've since cut off all that progress... don't ask...:wallbash:

wow thats some great progress!
RIght now i'm torn between infrequent washing/frequent washing
This would be the first time since starting my haircare journey with infrequent washing... I'm only washing and detangling once a week.
I'm thinking i should go back to washing my hair every other day while using my lenzi's request

Okay...first let me say....you are my new hair idol. And you have to tell us why would you cut those curls!!!! ??????

With that said, that theory makes perfect sense!! I also think it would be much easier for me to do now that my hair is natural and I can do wash and go's now. The clean scalp, the massage, and the use of my topical aids (which should be more effective because they go onto a clean scalp with nearly every application) seem to be a winning combination when I think about it. I don't have to worry quite so much about breakage due to excess manipulation, which some might aruge is the down side of frequent washings because my hair is stronger since I cut the relaxer off...it's not nearly as prone to breakage. My natural hair seems to accept and appreciate the moisture / oils / butters, glycerine, etc. much better than my relaxed hair.

Thanks for pointing that out for me!! Great info, now I'm going to get to washing (I have to go for a run first today ]

ITA: adding you to my hair idols!

Quick Question: Since you co-wash and poo-wash interchangeably every other day, do you find that there is no need to clarify?

I really enjoy washing my hair and wish I could do it every other day or every day. But I can't do wash and gos because my hair texture means it tangles so much. And I've given myself a limit of two washes while my hair is in twists for the same reason. Other methods to avoid tangles or detangle take at least an hour and half of work each time, plus the time it takes to dry (which is in fat braids that are not cute to wear anywhere other than the house) is anywhere from 3-6 hours. I'm actually pretty envious of people who can wash their hair frequently with no problems or hours of work. I wash once a week now, but sometimes I can squeeze in another wash during the week, if I have the time/energy.

That's some great growth you have there.

I am getting roller sets on Fridays, however by Monday all the curl falls out of my head. So, I wash Mon-Fri because my curly, wavy hair is more easily to manage. I think the key to growing your hair out is to keep it moisturized. I dont think washing it makes it grow faster, because our hair grows in cycles, but maybe the moisture your putting on your hair is making your hair retian length becauses its not so dry that it breaks off? That is my theroy.

.

I have the same problem. I cant really wash my hair everyday and limit washing to every 10 - 12 days. I comb my hair dry (i kno!) so i dont really notice growth or retain length. Do you have a lo manipulation regime mwedzi?

I still no poo wash just about every other day sometimes only 1-3 times per week. It really depends on how cold it's gonna be. I live in ohio and sometimes we get thoes 10 degree days and it's like whoa!! But usually I just no poo, then put a shower cap on under my hat. When I hit the air I make sure that the head is covered and remove all the stuff when I get into work. It's been working and my hair just feels so soft and wonderful!! I mean in the summer I no poo daily, and my hair just loves it, so why not continue the pattern. I just have to be a little more careful about the cold that's all, but it's certainly worth it!

I only wash with shampoo once a week..but I co-wash 2-3 time a week..I guess thats every other day...I don't have a choice because I work out...But my hair is loving it ....It is soft and well moisturized !!!

Yes, I wash everyday because I have a TWA. I use a very mild herbal shampoo to do so. I then dry my hair and use a combination of aloe vera juice and gel in my hair. I think frequent washing contributes to some of the growth i've been getting. Whether it does or doesn't contribute to rapid growth it sure feels darn good and I'm addicted

I was and oil rinse daily or at least 6 times a week. I love it. I want to try to cut back to 5 times a week, but as of yet, I've not been able to do it.:ohwell:

I co-wash 3-4x a week and use with baking soda to really get it clean 2-3 times out of those. I don't use much in my hair so being that I wash frequently I don't really get any buildup in my hair. But I do attribute frequent washings and my MN mixture to my growth.

I wash frequently. Every day if I'm wearing it curly or pulling it back or every other day if I'm styling straight. I had been using Kerastase shampoos but am now trying an experiment with Grow Shampoo which claims to make your hair grow faster. I use the Grow most days, except when I need to clarify or if I plan to style my hair (roller set or straighten).

Frequent washing and conditioning has helped my hair tremendously.

I wash daily. On the off chance that I'm in a rush or I want to maintain that same curl pattern, I simply spritz and go. Either way, some form of water comes in contact with my hair on a daily basis.

Not really, but I am now on a low combing regimen. :) I combed the ends out yesterday morning because it was hard to make a neat bun and there was a bit of shed hair that had to come out, but other than that I haven't combed my hair since the beg of january. Yesterday night was my 5th wash w/o combing.

Actually, I think I am going to try to up my washes. It's so lovely to wash. And I washed loose yesterday (as opposed to washing hair in fat twists) for the first time in a month because I just had to get rid of these tiny pieces of lint that, w/o washing loose and w/o combing or brushing, just weren't going to come out. Anyway, washed loose yesterday and moisturized, put my hair in big fat twists to dry about 60-70% of the way, took out and added just a touch more leave-in (Oyin Honey Hemp) and shook. Got a totally awesome organic looking afro and got lots of compliments on it last night. Twisted it up again last night and didn't notice any tangles, so I think I might be able to get away with washing more often. Just so long as I don't let it dry all the way while loose.

Once I perfect this regimen I'll post a tut in my Fotki.

CW'ing often has helped me tremendously. I believe it also aids in good growth, espcially if you don't use heat. When I use heat it almost reverses all the benefits!

I wash/co-wash about 3 sometimes 4 times a week because I use growth aids and go to the gym about 3 - 4 times a week. I don't like the salt build-up on my scalp from my work-outs and I don't like the weighed down feeling of my daily moisturizers and that's why I wash frequently.

I'm looking forward to that!

I currently have a TWA, but our textures look very simular. As my hair grows out, my natural hair "wet set" wiil be twisting my hair with a moisture gel and air drying or using the air setting on my hooded dryer to speed up the process. When I was much younger and had natural hair, I used to do this and it would control my shrinkage / tangleing and it gave my hair a more defined curl look vs. a large mass of cotton look :yep:

Keep us posted here with your new washing reggie! I just love coming here and reading about our frequent washer's success.

Theres nothing like the feel of warm water on your head. I love it and can't get enough of it. I keep saying I will hold off and sometimes I do but I miss it to much. I Co-wash everyday and trying to get my co-workers to do it more often as well. I have asked them to wash their hair twice a week. Thats hard for them. THey agreed to one time a week:ohwell:. I have hesitated on getting a weave or braid because of the cowashes. I have this addiction somewhat for it and so I just go with it. I contribute it to my growth. But detangling is a pain in the neck. I rather not thanks.

i have to agree it really is addicting! I can honestly say that I have never used a clarifying shampoo a day in my life... there had been points when i probably needed to clarify but just didn't know anything about it... since doing the frequent wash thing I never feel the need

I have just begun washing my hair in four big braids which I think is a keeper! I only wash the scalp/roots and let the poo run down the braids when I rinse it out but I do not want to wash my ends too often!

Suzieq what kinda poo do u use?
