I didn't vote for anything, but I feel like I wish I knew how to style me hair better. Ever since I learned about hair health, I feel like my hair styles have been lagging. Before my HHJ, I would blow dry and flat iron but my hair would not grow, now I've learned so much about my hair and know that I can do better to help my hair to grow, but don't feel as fly as I used to. So, I would check the box for "wishin' I had swanging hair!"

I wish I was better at accepting my hair for what it is. I continuously get discourage because my hair is not thick and lush like many of the lady's here! For me this is my biggest barrier in my hair journey thus far.

I voted "Technique". Im getting better. I can wash, DC, blow dry, flat iron, and trim my own hair. I just need to learn how to relax it and I will be complete! LOL

*Technique*

I am not good at flat ironing my own hair (can do everyone else's ...crazy, right) but it is for the best as I know I will be trying to do it every other day (this is how often I rollerset)

my regime & products are pretty set, so for me it's technique. i basically stick to yarn braids, twists or buns, and i taught myself how to flat iron my natural hair successfully. now if i could just learn to cornrow i'd be set.:grin::grin: i'd also like to learn how to professionally trim my own hair. i've found a bunch of cool instructional videos on youtube, that & roller setting. i'd like to learn how to do that.

Technique. I stretch no less than 3 months at a time, most times more and I have thick, coarse NG...its hard making it blend.

For me it's TECHNIQUE,TECHNIQUE, TECHNIQUE.........., and the specific tecnique is cornrowing. I'm natural, and if I could cornrow that would complete the one thing that I can't do that I wish I could.

I voted for knowledge, because I need to understand how to make my prepoo better and get my moisture/protein balance together.

Hi There! This really made me think.

I voted for PRODUCTS (wait till you see all that I've purchased today). I feel like I need to try a million different products so that I'm sure I've got the ones that work the absolute best for my hair. It's frustrating because I know I also need to give them time to work. Chalk it up to me being a curious, perfectionist(ic), NEWBIE!

If I could have voted for my top 3, the next two would be:

-UNDERSTANDING - I'd like to know more about ingredients and be able to identify ones that my hair does not like.

-TECHNIQUE - It took me about 3-4 weeks to learn how to make a nice post-relaxer bun. My cornrow attempt was not so good. When I get my relaxer in Oct, I will attempt to learn to rollerset.

I think 80% products and 20% basic understanding. I cannot style my hair, but I have very little interest in that right now.

Mainly what I need is 3" of growth. I am tired of being "in between" with my length! I feel like I could refine everything best if my hair were longer.

Good thread! I chose products..I have everything down pack w/ it except I've been having a hard time figuring out which shampoo to stick with and use. Everytime I think I have that great shampoo I end up using something else and doubting the original one I use. I just want to find the right one already......and stick w/ it!

So I can get better in that area... in finding a good product and sticking w/ it.

Technique, for me. I really want to master braid outs, twist outs, rollersets, and the like. My hair is doing pretty good now but I would like more versatility.

I'm realizing that i've been totally lacking in patience lately. I have the products and techinique i've just been lazy lately with my hair. But I think i've come up with a solution since before I would just do my hair whenever it was in need. Now I know that the longer it gets I need to create a schedule and stick to it. Now detangling, shampooing and even moisturizing can take some time. Especially now since i'm at the tail end of my 6 month stretch.

I have started my journey in July...we are now in September and I don't have my staples yet. I have been trying some products and observing my hair. So far I have more misses than hits, but I am getting there. I wish more companies had readily available trial or small sizes!!

i didnt vote because there is not an option for me. i dont think i need to beef up on anything. i know what products and ingredients work for me. i already know how to twist braid, cornrow, flat iron, curl and everything. and i have all the products i need except a steamer and i really dont think i need that.

What's lacking in my journey is DISCIPLINE. I still keep buying loads of products. :nono: I seem to get bored quickly, and it's like my hair kind of gets used to the products after a while anyway and it seems to stop responding, then I have to rotate or find something else.

I need to improve on my technique also, although I've mastered rollersetting, I'm good at using a curling/flat iron. I can cornrow, single plait, twist, so I just need to improve on my relaxing technique. Also I need to be able to style my hair in better ways when I'm 4 months + post.

I'm finding this year (for the most part) I am very committed and I will do my hair every week whether I feel like it or not, and that is really helping me.

I voted knowledge. I am still trying to figure out when my hair needs moisture and protien, what my hair feels like when it is properly moisturized, and overall, what my hair feels like when it responds well to something.

ITA. That's why I voted "technique". I think I've pretty much mastered the rollerset, but everything else.... I need work.

I voted "technique" too. I can do rollersets on dry hair, but I don't have a clue of how to properly do them on wet hair. I've read instructions and I've seen youtube videos, but I still can't do it on my own hair. They come out fine on dry hair.

I also need to perfect my flat-ironing technique. I keep hearing that tension is key. I saw a woman on youtube flatiron her hair. While she was flatironing, she used a ceramic straightening brush (I never knew such a thing existed before I saw her video.) I ordered the Denman D79 & it came yesterday. I'm also going to get a good blowdryer. Hopefully those two things will help me to flatiron my hair straight.

I voted TECHNIQUE. I've mastered twist out and braids out but there are times that I don't know what to do with my hair as far as other styles. I'm bad at roller setting and flat ironing and would like to be good at self relaxing.

I voted for knowledge because there are times when I can't quite tell what my hair needs. I think part of it was not understanding what quality products would make my hair feel like too (i almost voted for products). I finally have techniques that provide results (fingercombing, keeping hair twisted and tucked when im not out, limiting use of shampoo and as a result ingredients that must be shampoo'd out, regularly moisturizing ends ohh...a nd water and exercise.) Whenever I deviate my hair suffers.

That being said, my hair would only occasionally say, feel *truly* soft when it was dry, and after trimming i'd soon start having problems with my ends again. Even after a few days of stepping up the quality of my products i'm seeing results. I'll probably never touch HE or VO5 ever again, lest it is an emergency. I need to keep everything as natural as possible.

Oh, and consistency and patience are also things i really need, lol.

Technique. I'm having trouble getting "salon results" when I straighten my hair. I haven't even tried to rollerset yet.....ok Styling period, I need help.

I'm lacking in consistency, discipline, and patience. I have all of the other elements listed in your poll. I know what i'm supposed to do, but I just don't do it all the time.

My hair would be so much better if I give it what it needs and only what it needs, all the time. Quit getting bored and trying new stuff (color, cutting, and BKT) Stick to a regimen and let it grow.

Technique I need to learn how to rollerset, bun correctly and flat iron my roots better. I inherited my lack of hair styling from my mother.
