today, i had my hair in a banana clip. one of my mom's friends asked why i had "all that fake hair" on my head. for some reason, i take it as a compliment when people think it's not mine. maybe it's the satisfaction of knowing that it is...
a couple of weeks ago the guy at the health food store asked me if it was my hair. I said yes, and I do my own twists, he asked if I was a hairdresser!!! I had to smile.
When I was buying shampoo, the lady at the Aveda counter said my hair looked nice too.
Yesterday...my husband said "Look at all that hair!" lol! A couple of days before that I was saying "I'm almost at shoulder length!" Then he said..."What is shoulder length to you?" When I pointed to what I thought shoulder length is he took a strand of my hair from the back to where my finger was and said "Look you're there!" That's when I REALLY got excited! Ok, now I know you said when was the LAST time, but I gotta tell you one more...I was complaining that I never stick to anything (I was too lazy to go to the gym) and my husband said "Don't tell me you don't stick to anything! You sure stuck to your program of growing your hair out!"
And Adrienne I'm like you...I take it as a compliment when people question if my hair is all mine.
I was at the grocery store and a woman wanted to know what I put in my hair to make it lay down and look wavy/curly. It was funny because she walked over to me with four other people. I saw them creeping up and I thought they were trying to steal my purse! LOLOL She said, "I know you're going to think I'm crazy, but..." I told her to buy a vat of curl activator gel and a shower comb and don't look back!
She had her hair relaxed and dyed on the same day.
She had her hair chopped off a few weeks after her hair started falling out in big chunks. She had never heard of transitioning. Her hairstylist told her the only way to go natural was to cut off all of her hair.
She said, "I wish my natural hair looked like yours." I looked at her nappy 'fro and said, "Your natural hair does look like mine!"
She was making the same mistake I was--trying to use the same products and techniques she used on her relaxed hair.
Monday (6/30), my girlfriend didn't see me in a minute and wouldn't stop commenting on how nice my hair looked. Even tho she always does that, each time she sounds more sincere.
Two weeks ago at my aunts funeral. I haven't seen many of my family members in years, and many of them were a bit shocked to see me with hair, considering the fact that I never had much hair to look at in the past.
stormy, isn't it nice to have the support of your husband? he sounds awesome! so many people complain that theirs thinks they're obsessed. it's nice to see one that's with you all the way!!
A couple of weeks ago. My aunt said your hair is really growing and I thought you said your hair didn't grow. My cousin was cornrowing my hair and she said it felt real soft. I get complements on my braid sets. Ms. Kenesha said something really nice about my hair. She said like my black hair. I of course became bored with it and lighten it up with streaks. I can't wait for it to grow longer and people will think it is a weave.
Last week I was wearing my hair in a twist-out, and my Mom and I were at my daughter's graduation and she told me it looked really nice. Then that weekend I was talking to her on the phone and she said "I wonder how my hair would look in that style you had at the graduation? Can you tell me how you did it??"
Sunday at church, everyone kept telling me how thick my hair was, and one lady in particular was like, "Oh my goodness! Good grief! Your hair is just-a growin'!" I was very happy!
Sunday at a program at church. I was asking for the business card for the salon a lady at my church goes to, I explained to her that her hair always looks nice and that I was thinking of switching to another person. She told me that I had pretty hair, and she seemed surprised that I was asking for a referral.
This past weekend when three special people (daviine, beana, foxy)complimented my hair..And as they are hair fanatics with beautiful hair themselves, I was especially pleased.
i think it was when i had my intelock curls. it was a 1b/ 33 mix and made my hair look real redish. guys were talking to me everywhere i went and one of my friends told me i looked like a model.
Almost everytime I go or see people whgo dont take care of their hair, They always say you have nice hair, it grows so fast.
I stopped taking it as a compliment, just undercover hate
LOL
Yesterday was the last time I was complimented on my hair. 90% of the time I wear my hair in the braid out with s curl and I get alot of compliments from white women. They always ask ignorant questions like, how do you get your hair like that? (when its wavy).I wore it straight for the first time since my touch up two weeks ago and this oriental lady and a guy that I work with said "wow, your hair is getting long". I have about 3 more inches to get to bra strap.....yippie!!!! My fellow African American women will just stare at my hair, but they wont say anything but the men, they want to run their fingers through it,and some of them do
I think the ultimate compliment for me was when my mom, who constantly says I wash my hair too much, or that I NEED to use the blowdryer, says that my hair is really soft and asks me what SHE should wash and condition her hair with..AND she let me help her relax her and my sister's hair!!

Monday, June 30 - I wore my hair pulled back in a bun, but I had NO part. Everyone seems to really like it without my usual part.

Girl, that's only because it was just a few days ago. It was the first thing one of the ladies in the office said to me Monday morning after she said good morning.

Why do you take a compliment directed to you as hate?
I know what she means. When my hair was longer, people used to say that to me, but if I really looked at them, I'd see them rolling their eyes after they said it. Jealousy.
My sister-in-law even came out and asked me if I had a weave the first time she met me.
Yesterday I received a very nice compliment.
(To be honest, it caught me off guard)
At first I thought this lady was checking to see if I was
watching her man because she kept staring at me.
A couple was near by and the girlfriend kept looking at me. I was wondering WHY? I was doing my thing, but for some reason I felt someone staring at me. I made eye-contact with the young lady and she walked over and said, "Your Hilights really look nice!" I said, "Thank you!" and smiled. She continued to look at my hair and I said, "Take care-Have a nice day!"
*She probably thought my hair was fake!*
People always ask me if my hair is real and stare at it!
