What's Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

Re: What\'s Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

My worst hair experience as a child occured the summer before seventh grade. I visited my sister for the summer (she is 10 years older than me and she lives in Florida). My hair was still natural at the time. I had a lot of hair and it was really thick. My sister is not really experienced with natural hair (she doesn't braid really well etc., her hair was permed from since she was 12 and my mother did her hair for her). My sister and her friend decided to hot comb my hair. Let just say that both of them never had experience with a hot comb before. They burned off hair on the right side of my head. I HAD PATCHES when they were finished. I cried that summer. My mother was upset when I came back home, Those patches grew back within a year.

Re: What\'s Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

Me and my doll(yes my doll) had a bad experience. I never ever had my hair hot combed...but my sisters did(and I was jealous). So I decided I was gonna 'straighten' my own hair. I burnt my forehead and my bangs...they turned to brown ashes and fell off. I decided I didn't do it right and then tried straighten my poor doll's hair instead...the whole side of her face caved in when the hot comb touched her hair! I was upset...of course for the doll...but I was MORE upset my Mom would find out that I had the stove on( a no,no..) and then burned my hair and my dolls hair...so I shoved her under my bed. I pretended I was playing 'hairdresser' and draped my hair over the burned off bangs... /images/graemlins/laugh.gif Of course Mom smelled the burnt hair and plastic as soon as she walked in the door. I was sitting on my bed with that 'look' on my face... you know the one... /images/graemlins/wasntme.gif ..
She looked under my bed found the doll...then she grabbed me...which cause my hair to fall out of face revealing my burnt forehead and burned off hair ... /images/graemlins/shocked.gif. needless to say I didn't sit too well that evening...plus she forced me to play with the doll that only had one eye cause the other one melted off with half her head. /images/graemlins/cry3.gif

Re: What\'s Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

Oh, I contracted some kind of fungus. It ate my hair out until I had a HUGE bald spot in the top of my head. I went to the doctor for it, though, and it all grew back.

Re: What\'s Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

Sweetcocoa, I was right there with ya up until the part about being forced to play with the one-eyed doll! That was a CLASSIC mother move. I am cracking up over here! I love when mothers get creative with their punishments!
That was too funny /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: What\'s Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

My worse hair experience happened to me when I was in the 11th or 10th grade. Being the rebellious teenager I was I probably had done something that made my mother say, " and from now on, you'll take care of your own hair!!!" /images/graemlins/mad.gif /images/graemlins/whip.gif /images/graemlins/mad.gif So I was like, ok /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif. Whne it was time to get my hair permed, I asked a girlfriend to do it, cause I had no $$ at the time this was the night before photo day. She told me she would do a great job. Before I got to her house apparently she had had afight with her boyfriend and felt the need to roll up a big fatty. She insisted she wasn't that high and since I really had no other choice I let her perm my hair. WHO TOLD ME TO DO THAT?? She combed the perm through my hair, and even at that age I knew you weren't suppopsed to do that. I don't remember if there was hair coming out when she was washing it, but I do know that the middle of my hair took 3 years to grow back and to this day it is the weakest part of my head /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

the Moral here? Never Smoke and Relax( Speaking about hair of course) /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Oh boy.. the "experiments" by sisters! pbbbt! I remember those. A year's a long time for a girl to wait for her hair to grow back. Since it was natural, how do you wear it all that time?

Re: What\'s Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

When I was nine years old, I had hair a couple of inches past my shoulders. Well I wanted a cute cut but my mother said I couldn't get my hair cut until I was 13. So being the hard head I was I took the back ponytail (had the two ponytail one on the top and one in the back going on) I grabbed that hair and cut 4 inches of hair right up to the my collar bone.

My mom came in and I started crying I said the perm made my hair fall out, and my mom stopped putting a relaxer in. She waited until I was 12 or 13 before she put another one in. I was so surprised that she didn't beat the hell outta me for lying like I did. I think she actually believed me. /images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: What\'s Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

My mom pressed my hair occassionally. She had to HIDE from my father to do this because he did not want her to do anything to my hair. My worst experience was the bi-weekly Saturday afternoon hair wash. /images/graemlins/mad.gif I hated having my hair washed because it got all curly then my mom had to comb it out /images/graemlins/hammer.gif No amount of Johnson's No More Tears would work. Then she would put my hair into what she called "Chiney bumps" HATED IT! /images/graemlins/whip.gif /images/graemlins/whip.gif She might as well have /images/graemlins/spank.gif me!

Re: What\'s Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

/images/graemlins/rofl.gif I'm in stitches over here...

Hey, don't think I ever used "No more Tears" but I used to loooooove the smell of the original Johnson's baby shampoo! *sniff* ahhhhhhhhh....

Re: What\'s Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

I wasn't teased because nobody knew. I had the bald spot in the top of my head but not in the front, so I wore my hair in a ponytail everyday. That way it was covered. The only people who saw it were my doctor, hair dresser, and relatives.

This is an EASY question for me to answer. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I will never forget. I was about four or five and my mother was hot combing my hair in the kitchen. Some way, I never figured out how, the hot comb slipped out of her hand and down inside my shirt. Once I felt the heat of the comb, my four to five-year-old mind recalled everything that I had heard about what one should do if her clothes caught on fire.

I jumped up with my mother in hot pursuit, took off running and, rolling on the floor with the hot comb still inside my shirt. The pain was excruciating. My mother kept screaming and trying to make me stop, but I was so sure that I had to keep rolling to keep from going up in flames.

Needless to say, rolling was the worst thing to do in this situation. I still have a huge scar on my back from the imprint of the pressing comb. /images/graemlins/cry3.gif

Was the hot comb stuck to your skin?

Allandra, it was one of those dolls that was almost as big as I was (I was about 6 or 7 years old)..so I couldn't even hide her from my friends under my coat. Eventually she ended up in the attic...where I was afraid to go... because everytime I went up there I could see her sitting in the corner with her 'one' eye accusing me. I think to this day that's why I was afraid of the movie Chuckie! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

If I wasn't messing in mine...it was my sisters(I cut one of my sisters hair into bangs in the front...way up to the hair line) My Mom was pissed because it was so short she couldn't straighten it with the hot comb...of course I got another spanking. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: What\'s Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

During the time when Rio came out i wanted my mom to get me some (glad she didnt) but she wouldnt. SO i decided to make my own. I mixed lard with plants from inside the house as well as outside and put it in my hair. After my whipping and washing it out my face and scalp started to itch like crazy. Turns out i was allergic to one on the plants I used. /images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: What\'s Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

When I was about four or five, one of my brothers and I were watching Batman (the movie). Well, my brother gets this idea to do my hair like Catwoman's. So he's doing my hair then all of a sudden he stops and gets a horrified expression on his face. I am wondering what's wrong until he explains he made a little "mistake". I had no idea how bad it was until he had to get a pair of scissors to cut the knot out of my hair.

Re: What\'s Your Worst Hair Experience as a Child?

This isnt exactly an experience as a child because it occured last year but I found it a funny experience to share. Last year I went to Pittsburgh and everywhere a wash and set was $35 and up. Being a cheap New YOrker, I refused to pay to wash my hair for the amount I relax it over here. A puerto Rican girl I know told me about this white lady name Marlene who washed her hair for $15. So i set up an appointmnet with marlene. When i got there, she poured the shampoo in my hair and rinsed it. No scrubbing it in or anything. She proceeded to do the same thing with the conditioner. I didnt say anything because I had just washed my hair, It just had turned out bad. When I gave her my deep conditioner, she said she didnt have time to do that. /images/graemlins/shocked.gif She proceeded to roller setting my hair. This lady put th rollers meant for my bangs in the section of my hair that was past bra strap lenth while the big rollers meant for the hair past bra strap were all in the front of my hair so I ended it up with a roller set that couldve been done by a 5 year old. As i was underneath the dryer I was wondering if I was going to pay for this crap. 15 minutes later I decided I was not so I pretended to get a magazine and I ran out her store, rollers and all and I got on the bus. My friend found it so funny, she took a picture of it. To this day I still think it was a racial thing because for my $15, she wouldve done a garbage job while she did my puerto ricans friends hair fine(shes really pale with straight hair) That lady probably thought she was white. I'd pay to know what she said about me when she turned around and saw I was no longer in that store.
