Holding stylists responsible for their job. I really feel that there are so many hair care disasters that occur because of stylists incompetence and there are very few instances where they are held responsible. The only time I see this is when there is truly catastrophic hair disasters (maybe there will be repercussions in this instance)

I was just thinking that I am a health professional and I know if I screwed up a patients med/ treatment there would be heavy repercussions and I think that stylists who try to pursue their own agenda (ie.. proving your hair is in "bad shape" by tearing and ripping with small tooth comb; cutting inches off when you request a dusting; poor relaxer application -touchup applied all over already relaxed hair and just plain poor care because they are having a "bad day".

This issue has been bothering me since my last hair disaster where I now have 2 small bald spots in back of my ears after this ***** just did a wash and set-in the washbowl used for chemical processes. I have decided to learn to care for my own hair including my first reaxer application 2 weeks ago and I must say my hair is in the best shape it has ever been in... no breakage and lots of shine. I have never achieved this by going to "professionals". I am comtemplating filing a lawsuit regarding my hair and I wanted to get your opinion regarding this issue.. I really don't care about financial reimbursement I want to stand up and take a stand about poor hair care practices..

Please share your thoughts regarding this issue...
TIA

I agree with you, but I think the LHCF ladies are a small percentage in terms of women who care for their own hair. So many black women are dependent on stylists that it would be tough to hold poor stylists accountable.

The best remedy I've come up with is boycotting them...hence my decision to learn to do everything myself so that a stylist would not be a necessary part of my regimen. Too often, we feel "stuck" with bad service/performance because we feel that we "need" a stylist or that we don't have any other choice.

You wouldn't be the first to file a lawsuit about something like this. I wonder how effective it would be though.

I agree stylist should be held responsible but we are also responsible for our own hair even moreso. I made a bad mistake and went to a new stylist in Jan. I told her that I use Affirm Fiberguard with lye and of course she told me that is what she used. I went there and I never did see any Affirm and I think the cow used a no lye perm on my head:mad: . After you rinse out the conditioner you are supposed to use the fortifying conditioner or the 5n1 reconstructor. She shampooed my hair with Suave Coconut shampoo. I saw the big bottle and plus I used it for cw and at that point I raised up and then she tried to hide the Suave and took it across the room. I was so steamed. I told her I wanted a rollerset but she rolled my hair with rods instead of the magnetic rollers b/c she did not have any and did not know how to use them. I called her before I went and told her I wanted a rollerset and she said she could do it. Then she cut my hair on top of that. She did not even ask me and b/c of the length I did not know she was cutting it until it was too late. I was sooo mad. Of course I never went back. This person totally mislead. She could have taken my hair out using a no lye over my lye. Thank goodness I had all of the Keracare products at home. I just neutralized my hair a couple of days later. My hair was underprocessed from the perm but I took care of it and 8 wks later went back to my own stylist who applied my Fiberguard. Lesson learned. If you don't like what someone is doing you have to speak up.

ITA thats why I refuse to go to a stylist again. There are good ones out there but I am tired of finding ONE good stylist and then something happens and they are not available and I have no one to do my hair except people I do not know and trust. Best thing that ever happened to me was doing my own hair. I'm still in early stages but already my hair is stronger and has MUCH less breakage.

I had an experience somewhat similar but I walked out after the wash and being placed under a dryer because she was so rough with my hair and she wanted to relax and cut my hair within 5 minutes of meeting me... NO WAY! So I walked out and didn't realize the damage to my hair until later when I went back to my regular lady who stated the wash bowl used was specifically used for chemical processes and not regular wash and set (which is all I wanted that day)... Anyway thanks for responding and hope you didn't have to much damage from that experience...

bumping for any more opinions!

Most salons use the same shampoo bowls after different treatments. How did you get bald spots unless someone left relaxer on the shampoo hose head? If thats what happened I think she/he should be held liable.

I have only had one bad stylist experience in my life. It was my first time at a Dominician salon and she didn't rinse the relaxer out properly. It looked beautiful when I left the salon.:)
I was pissed the next day when I went to unwrap my hair and it was stuck to my scalp which prevented me from unwrapping it. :lachen: I had to cake my hair with vaseline to get it off my scalp. I went back to the Bronxs for two free hair treatments from that *****.
