Harsh...I think the seller is right but PayPal will settle it...I'd love to hear the outcome tho...and damn CutiePie is rude AF...if I was wrong I still wouldn't refund the money and make her go through hel| trying to get it back just because of her attitude

Some are clearly rhetorical IMO, but not everyone looks at things the same way. My point is that not everything needs to be responded to. You're acting extremely messy for a grown woman and IMO embarrassing yourself. The seller has moved on, it's odd that you haven't.
I hope paypal handles the issue for you two quickly. Good Luck.

I have been on this board regularly since last September. When you come here often enough you get to know certain peoples "online personalities" if you will. Some people are helpful some people arent. Some people only comment to make snide remakes. Others complain, idk.

You just observe things after a while. I don't mean anything negative behind it. I could just see how a misunderstanding could arise in this situation but at the same time i just think its weird it's going so far to left.

Idk. It'll work itself out
 
Let me not be messy. On both sides, as grown women, this situation could have been handled better.

I was tagged so I will provide input -- simply put, provide documentation and let Paypal handle it.

ETA: Typically in scenarios such as this, when you buy items, you buy as-is, with no refunds if you opt-out of the insurance. What complicates this is the debate over whether the insurance was/was not offered. Good luck to you both.

The seller shouldn't refund her anything, she is not a business and at least in NY personal sales are AS IS unless stipulated otherwise or if item was severely misrepresented. Even if item was misrepresented it is the buyers burden to prove the exact misrepresentation as well as prove that they were prudent enough in their research of the item prior to the sale.

I've been car shopping y'all so I know the deal, lol.

If you buy a 10000 dollar car online from a personal seller any they say the car is running, in good shape, and only has average wear and tear. ... And when the car is shipped to you it "runs" but it screeches, the tires are worn out, and there are moderate stains all over the seats, then guess what,... You are a$$ed out.

If the seller sent you pics and you accepted them as good enough proof of condition,... Unless you can point out on the picture where the item was broken and prove that she purposefully tried to cover it up by not mentioning that the item was anyway "worn, few scratches, damaged, seen better days" then you are out of luck. If the pics she provided was from 1999 you are still out of luck, it is the BUYERS job in a personal sale to be prudent and ensure pics are recent (newspaper and item side by side).

If item was damaged during shipping then it is the buyers problem for not buying the insurance since the buyer already agreed that the item was shipped appropriately.

If you ever go on Craigslist there is a reason why they post a million warnings for the buyer because in the end, 99 percent of the time it will be your loss. If you want an item at a bargain price it is your job to do the homework and it is your burden to take the risk. If you buy a car off the lot it is thousands of dollars more cuz you're paying for warrantee, your paying for the inconvenience of "return in 30 days no questions asked" perks.

You can't try to be cheap both ways.

Also, DOES IT WORK?? Or is it just not pretty? Either way the former is true but I hope the buyer is not being petty about an item which will be stored near her shower and toilet. :/

BadMamaJama, I disagree and don't think this thread should be deleted. I do think however the thread should be locked since there's really nothing more to add to it that won't be fueling the fire.

The problem with deleting threads is information that could be useful to others gets lost and people who would've benefited from it, miss out.

Locking the thread stops the madness from boiling over...but still lets the discussion serve as a cautionary tale of what could happen if people don't dot their i's or cross their t's when doing transactions with people they don't know.

So I vote for locking not deleting.
 
Lawyer chiming in. No need for opinions here, except to commiserate and empathize perhaps, because state law covers this situation.
 
Nonie, the original thread in the for sale section is where the lesson should be learned. This thread is nothing more than opinions. Because they used Paypal, all this extra is just mess. Paypal will decided what is what and that will be the end of it.

I have exchanged something on the forum and I purchased the INS and the delivery notice, this was included in the price. I think that if the buyer got a decreased price and didn't want to purchase the INS (which literally would have been less than the discount) then there is no harm on the seller. Unless you have thoughts or concerns that that this item was damage prior to shipping. Which is doesn't sounds as this was the case.

@BadMamaJama, but that was the point of the thread--to get opinions in order to arrive at a right decision. OP needed advice on how to address a situation that could arise in any transaction. The other thread IMO is caustic while this one started off with someone asking a "jury of her peers" to help her figure out the best way to handle a situation. The opinions led to discussions before drama ensued...and the discussions involved advice that is informative...so now people know that to avoid the scenario in post #1 they need to do XYZ. Or that they could just squash the fire by meeting halfway. In any case, the opinions have provided options for the OP.

Where this thread went downhill was when, instead of it being just a hypothetical situation that got people to put their thinking caps on and help, it became REAL and drama ensued. Up to that point, all the initial advice was useful and helpful and that is the information I think should stay.

While it is true the other thread does serve as a warning, the only people who will end up there will be people wanting to read about a splitender or if it gets locked, people curious to see why it's locked. This thread on the other hand is clearly about solving a dilemma...and so I would come to this thread if I wanted to find a solution that involved a buyer/seller situation because a search of something along those lines would highlight this and "What would you do?" would pique my interest as it would seem to be along the lines of solving a problem...which is what I'd be after.

ETA: My only other suggestion would be to move the thread to a forum that deals with buying/selling as that is where I'd be looking for this sort of advice, if I were curious to know if there was a discussion on how best to do an online transaction. I would not immediately think to search for this in the hair forum.

No, if PayPal decides a refund is in order then paypal will make her mail the item back with tracking. When the tracking confirms delivery the funds will be returned.
