Our wedding isn't until next year but so far this is our breakdown:
We invited 219 people so not sure how many will actually attend just yet

Cake/candy table/desert bar- my sister is doing, all she wants is $ for ingredients so we'll say $500
Photographer/video guy $3500
Venue-$4000
tables/linens and our lighting specialist- $2800
Food, flowers, decorations-$17,500
My dress/shoes -$5500
band-1200
Invitations 450
programs 375
tasting menu-160

I did all of the planning and still have my binder (I don't have the spreadsheets anymore). I even had a spreadsheet with 5 minute interval divided by different locations and who was suppose to be where and at what time. The entire process was so fun to me. If you are not into planning I strongly recommend a destination wedding. My only regret which someone recommended in another thread was that I should have gotten a doggy bag of food. We served our guests an amazing meal but I was too excited to eat:nono:
-A couple key features that made it extra nice for me:
-We had dancers introduce us and do a performance
-I had a stamp made up and had the florist stamp the petals on the center piece
-The tables were named with a corresponding quote
- Instead of confetti we painted dowels and tied ribbon to then ends for the guests to wave
-I had the program printed but I bought ribbon in the colours of the wedding and used the material as the cover and another ribbon to tie it closed ... they were gorgeous:grin:

I may not be describing this well but reminiscing is making me smile...I think I need to look at some pics tonight:yep:

aaawwww love it all Nix08 can we get a few pics...I'm not engaged.....YET:look: lol

Budget was $10k.. we spent $7500. We saved alot by calling in 'favors' and alot of DIY's. GA Wedding with 250-300 guests.

Thanks everyone for the replies so far. It's really interesting how they've fallen mostly in 2 groups, with about a third more than 30k and most of the rest under 12k and almost no one in the middle. We're aiming for around 12k excluding rings and honeymoon. Was aiming for 10k, but after some research, that seemed a little difficult. Especially since we are getting married in a city we don't live in anymore, which makes some of the DIY and cost-saving measures hard to do, from a distance, you know. For around 100 people.

A friend of mine is deciding to get married here in NY and she broke down her wedding costs so far to me:

$32-$35k wedding w/ 150 -165 guests
$5k - wedding bands
$10k - honeymoon
$1k - wedding dress

I know w/o a doubt her wedding will be fabulous b/c she's just that type of person , but there is just no way even if I had the $ like that would I want to spend so much on a wedding and not put that towards something else. She and her fiance are both childless w/ decent paying jobs and they are both paying out of pocket for this wedding no real help from their families. She says she gets anxiety sometimes thinking about all the $ they are spending. She just got engaged on Valentines day and is slated to get married next July, so these costs might just go up :spinning:.

smh thats NY prices for ya

I'm beginning to wonder if most people can even keep accurate track. There are so many little things. Like I bought mailing labels for the save the dates (I know not "proper etiquette", but whatever), do people keep track of that? The cost of postage? Bridal magazines? It's hard to even keep track of.

This thread is seriously freaking me out. I had no idea weddings cost this much.

Ohhhh yeahhh!
Part of me would really want to have my wedding here just so that more people can come, but then I grapple with having it here and it being not as nice for my budget than having a destination wedding. Like, I don't want a cheesy hall or use a church basement for my wedding. I just really forseee my SO family probably having an issue about having a destination wedding. Even if I found someplace along the east coast that's affordable maybe that also would be cheaper than getting a ticket and hotel for Jamaica? Idk....

I'm in the Northeast and I'm 90% sure I'm doing a destination wedding (prob Miami or the Caribbean).

TBH, it will make the guest list that much shorter :look:

I'm considering this more and more. Plus most of my friends will be scattered around the country so they would need to travel + significant advance notice to be able to attend anyway.... For destination weddings do you cover the stay in the hotel as well?

i just want a nice dress and pretty photos :look:

honestly i like in the old days when folks would get married, leave the church and go riding off into the sunset with the 'Just Married' sign on the back of the car while family and friend threw rice and waved them off. Folks go to the reception and complain that the chicken is too dry, why Aunt so-and-so is wearing something inappropriate, etc.

if it weren't for my parents i'd like something with 50 people, in someone's back yard.

Theo Nope. It's usually expected that guests will be paying for their own hotel accommodations. Most times you can get discounted group rates for them though.

Yeah, I think you can get group discounted rates - but essentially, people will need $$ to book airfare and a hotel to see you get married.

Planning a wedding now and the budget is $70k. Never in my life would have thought I'd spend that much money on a one day event, but it's impossible to have a decent reception downtown Chicago for less than $150/person.

The poll is closed but yes, I tracked everything, down to the postage, fee for the marriage license and vendor tips.

We invited 269 people for a NYC wedding with sit down dinner and open bar. It was much more than I thought we'd spend but I'd do it all again.

We paid for the bridal party gowns (not usual) and some things were DIY i.e., my grandma made my floor length veil including hand sewing Swarovski crystal beads around the entire edge. I'm not even sure how much a veil like that would cost retail.

After the food/liquor, the most expensive items were photo & video.

We're planning a spring 2013 wedding. I haven't spent much so far, as I am still trying to locate a venue. The location will be metro Atlanta area. My goal is to spend between 10-15K (I'm tight with my money).

My parents hired me a wedding planner for $600 and my fiance will cover alcohol (estmated at 3-4K)

We plan on having 150-200 guest. We'll see if I can stay within budget :-)

naturalmanenyc- umm would everything be too much lol

but since you mentioned you tracked everything- what did tools did you use to do this i.e. spreadsheets, wedding planner etc

Also can you let me know more info on your venue...i'm interested in the location you used since it could accomodate so many ppl and you seem to be satisfied with it
