Weddings on a Budget

I just got married at the same venue she used. Definitely recommend having wedding & reception at the same place for convenience (for you & your guests) and cost savings.

How was the venue? Was it big enough? Congratulations on your wedding!

When/if I ever get married...I don't want to go overboard but I am willing to spend extra on a nice cake and breathtaking gown.

Our wedding was about 5K, It was at a really nice venue too (about 100 guests):yep:

I saved money by not having any bridesmaids, not having a bar, not having flower arrangements, getting my bouquet from a grocery store , getting a family member to perform the ceremony, and buying a white evening gown to wear as my wedding dress (Less than $200 ).

Example: These dresses are only $99.00!!! you can pay about 100 bucks more to have them altered to look more "wedding-like"

I only had a maid of honor and I let her pick out her own dress in the color of our wedding, something that she would wear again after my wedding because I hate spending money on bridesmaids gowns that only get worn once. I am kinda anti-bridesmaids because I feel like sometimes they add more chaos and drama than necessary :look:

I negotiated with the DJ, photographer, venue, and the designer of my cake. This saved me about 2K. We served a hot lunch at the wedding that was prepared by the venue. I can't even remember what was served but it was tasty and it was one of the cheapest meals available :lachen:

This was about three years ago in a small to medium sized city.

We also got married in the afternoon and did everything at the venue. I stuck with the cream colored standard (Free) decorations and candles provided by the venue.

Everyone enjoyed themselves and a couple of people told us it was the best wedding they had ever attended :)

I never day dreamed about getting married as a kid, but we ended up pulling it off very well!

This is a great thread. My fiance and I are looking to get married this year. I want to spend no more than $5K for everything not including the ring. He and my dad prefer just going to the Justice of the Peace and keeping the rest for a down payment, but I really want a some sort of ceremony.

I am leaning toward having a very small wedding with less than 25 guests. Really, all I care about is being to wear the dress and veil and having some nice pictures and video. Has anyone gone this route or have any good sites? I am in GA.

Wow, that is a great idea about the evening gown dresses tailored to look more like a traditional wedding dress. All you would need is a seamstress to make a long train attachment. I also like the idea of being able to wear the dress more than once. I just don't see the point of spending thousands of dollars for a formal wedding dress that will sit in your closet and never be worn again, or that you will eventually resale or probably save for your children who by that time, will probably not want to wear it either.
