I dont have a dryer so I always airdry. After it dries, I do my best to flatiron it. Or depending on how much new grownth I have Ill do bantu knots or try a wash and go.

im weird because i dont roller set for the curls, i just rollerset to flatten out my ends, and then i straighten out the rest of my hair with a flat iron untill it is nice and straight.

Many of the ladies here rollerset to straighten only. :yep:

I started out doing that also until several months ago when I begin to actually wear my rollersets. I would airdry in a rollerset, then make other styles, like braidouts, buns, etc.

I rollerset. When my hair grew to almost APL before, it was with rollersets. I also rollerset my dry hair everynight before I go to bed.

Rollerset - done either under dryer or airdry

Why? Less stress on my hair, and still give me the body and volume that I like

Better for your hair? less heat placed directly on my hair and less minuplation after rolled

Looks more "polished"? Oh, yes it does

I blowdry on warm and flat iron on high. I used to be an avid rollersetter but my life schedule does not suit doing this anymore-plus I prefer my hair to be straight nowadays. I also prefer a more polished style-I could never walk around w/my hair looking like it's halfway frizzy.

I airdry most of the time because it's better for my hair but I also rollerset sometimes because I like to see the cuticles to be smooth if I am going out right after I wash my hair.

When I straighten it (which isn't often), I prefer to airdry and then flat iron. I'm only trying to do one direct heat application instead of two (like blow drying and flat ironing). But more often than not, I'm wearing it curly and pinned up these days.

I prefer to airdry/flatiron. My hair always comes out super straight and soft. I set my iron on a low setting and not a lot of products on the hair except leave-in and maybe a little serum. My hair has never been healthier.

I like to rollerset, but really it takes A LOT of time. Plus once I'm blowing out the roots it's direct heat anyways PLUS a brush, I might as well flat iron, it's a lot less manipulation to me.

same here :yep:...I se to rollerset religously then blow my roots...but i think i was shedding due to my scalp being dried/fried...now i'm a DIY'er:grin:

I air dry because I am trying to do less heat (other than flat ironing once or twice a month) and deep conditioner under hair dryer, my hair has liked the less heat therapy:grin:

Rollerset w/ hooded dryer, blow out roots and then wrap. Cover with a silk scarf overnight and hair looks great :) I used to blow out my entire length after taking it down from the rollerset every week :nono:. I get better results with the wrap and my hair gets less heat damage.

I blowdry then iron it straight. With my kinky curls, rollersetting just forced my roots to tangle up in one another and them break. The heat was also very hot and my hair never got straight. But, when I blowdry the roots and then flat iron I look as if I just got my touchup, but with 100% more fullness. The trick is to use a diffuser attachment unto the dryer so as to not get that hair too hot. Also, also keep a spray bottle next to my head so if the hair tangles around the brush, you just spray and unravel.
Guess where I learned my fabulous blowdry tips from? InStyle magazine. Ken Paves was showing how to blowout Jessica Simpson (a white girl) hair straight, with a slight curl and big BIG body. I read that article religiously.

Nonetheless, the point is to trust white hairstylists sometimes because they know what they are talking about. Who would've known?

I rollerset. When I co-wash, I braid and let it airdry for a braidout. I have a blowdryer, hot comb, curling iron and flat iron that I haven't used in over 2 years. The only heat that touches my hair is the heat from the hooded dryer.

Does anybody co-wash daily and rollerset daily?

When I was relaxed...

Why? rollerset

Better for your hair? yes

Less manipulation? definately

Looks more "polished"? Yes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that I'm natural...

Why? Airdry, then flat iron

Better for your hair? Yes

Less manipulation? Yes

Looks more "polished"? Yes

I voted roller set then iron or blow out roots.

Why? My hair feels healthier

Better for your hair? I believe so

Less manipulation? I do not need to flat iron the entire lenght of my hair

Looks more "polished"? Very shiny.

I voted blowout and flatiron. I wish this wasn't so much heat.

I RARELY I mean .. maybe .. twice a year .. do this.

I'm an airdryer. Occasional flatironer.

I think that airdry rollersetting and then only blowing out the roots works best for my hair. It's an all day ordeal, but it gives my hair the best results.

I voted roller set but really only up to about 6 weeks then I prefer the method detailed below.

Why? My hair feels healthier and more moisturized, but that is also due to the fact that I am being more heavy handed in my use of the leave ins..

Better for your hair? I think so..

Less manipulation? Yes I just comb once and then roll

Looks more "polished"? Looks healthy
Since I am 8 weeks post this is my routine for straight (as can be) roots. I condish wash or ayurvedic wash and condition with ORS Replenishing Pak(can I say the bomb!) (the humecto has not been moisturizing at all so I will use it for condish wash's only) I then use fermodyl 619, some aguacate dominican leave in from bss, profectiv healthy ends (pink jar?), chi silk infusion and jojoba on the ends (sounds like a lot but it keeps my hair moisturized) before I roll. And to dry I do about 10-12 ponytails all over my head, secured tight to get straight roots and then I roller set the ends (hanging from the mini ponytail)-
This drying technique has been my life saver b/c a regular rollerset would have my roots to puffy. This way the length of my hair and ends are very moisturized!

I voted rollerset.

My hair maintains the most body this way, and that's important for me since my hair is so fine. I get the roots blown out, which removes the dent from the roller and also straightens out any new growth that may be waving my roots up. I would say damage is minimal, because there is no direct heat to the length/ends of my hair, and the direct heat to the roots is very fleeting.

HTH. :)

An old hairstylist used to tell me that when the hair has dents it's because the rollers aren't tight enough or placed correctly and also the hair needs to be wet.

Now, that's a disaster for my fine hairs (not to mention the face lift I often received with it). The hairstylists pulled the rollers too tight so when the hair dried, the strands were stretched so much that they would snap very easily. That kind of rollerset is very bad for my hair.

The DR rollersets are loser = better. But they always wanna blow out the roots for me and well....I'm all set with that. Oh, and that little comb, I'm all set with that too.

do you flat iron all your roots.. or just the visible ones?! it would be hard for me to rollerset.. than only flat iron my roots.. id feel the need to iron the whole hair..
:(

I rollerset, flat iron the roots, then saranwrap. Works like a charm! I've been bobbing my hair in the mirror for the past 10 min. just to watch it SWANG!

Change of plans!!!

For the past three weeks I've been rollersetting and then just flat ironing the roots. My sets got a lot better so I don't need all that other stuff. I luv this. It works great for me and is a lot more simple than what I was doing before.

It took me some time to finally realize that my hair does not like no heat at all. It breaks and tangles. So, I airdry til it's about 70% dry, then I take an ionic blowdryer on the lowest setting and blow it dry to about 90%. I then let it airdry the rest of the way, and then run a warm flatiron (sedu) through it. My hair comes out straight but not bone straight and I don't have all the breakage and tangles. Plus lots more body! :yep:

I voted blow dry flat iron but I only do that if I'm in a pinch for time. What I prefer to do is air dry until my hair is mostly dry with my products in it and the blow dry it just enough to get some of the kink out of it and the flat iron. I used to do rollersets alot but now I'm texlaxed and roller setting my hair wet is a project I leave up to the dominican salon. My hair looks just as nice with my air dry, blow dry, flat iron routine and stays straight all week so I dont have to use too much heat.

i air dry and then flat iron. for my personally considering that i use heat on my hair i want to minimize the amount.
