Your siggy hair

ETA: I don't think I've posted in this thread before, so here goes: I like to air dry then flat iron (or more recently, use the maxiglide). Since I'm transitioning, I'm trying to go once per week and then up it to once every two weeks, but one step at a time.

i air dry and then flat iron. for my personally considering that i use heat on my hair i want to minimize the amount.

I usually rollerset then flat iron the roots but lately I've been leaving my roots alone, except my bangs, when I wear them out occasionally. I have a Chi w/o temp control so i'm trying to save my texlaxed ends from all that heat!

:wallbash: Oh snap, I meant to vote BLOWOUT but I voted blowDRY by mistake. . .hehe my bad lol :ohwell:

I usually rollerwrap though. . .set and then go back the dryer wrapped for like 5 mins after it is completely dry.

I do prefer to blowdry and flat iron for that really straight look. I know it's not healthy to do this but I'm not that good at rollersets (although I do this too) my hair just doesn't get as straight with rollersets. Only after I've blowdried and flat ironed will I be able to use rollers to maintain my style -- (Can't stand sleeping in them either) I recently started air drying partially and then flat ironing but I've kinda copped out to a sew in. I just don't have the patience right now and I'm almost 8 weeks post with a lot of naps to deal with. :lachen:

I've been roller setting, flat ironing my roots + wrap for a while now. I used to airdry or blowdry + flat iron all the time, but now I only do that when I trim otherwise I do protective styles or rollersets for special ocasions...:)

blow dry then iron.

My hair doesn't straighten when I air dry, it stays curly/wavy and I don't have a hooded dryer to do wet sets.

Roller setting is the best technique for me. Only one stylist has ever been able to get my hair silkier with a curling rod.

I love rollersets. If you want it straight, just wear it in a wrap it for a few minutes and the curls will loosen and look like you straightened it. No pressing roots necessary. See my pic below:

All of these work well for me:

air dry and flat iron

blow dry and flat iron

ponytail roller set and flat iron

I am natural and I finally found a way to make my hair look/feel blow dried WITHOUT heat!!! I don't mean blown out, so its not sleek flat...but I can have a ponytail (neat, and straight) with my big puff in the back

I air dry in about five ponytails around my head and then use my demnan(sp) brush on my ends with some hairveda stuff

Could you be a little more specific as to which Hairveda stuff you are using

She has 50-11 products and I have all of them so specifics would be helpful for this fellow natrual person. :yep:

Rollerset & Flatiron

Why? Currently this is the only way I know how to get it straight. I'm still learning so my rollersets are not the best. I'm very texlaxed and my hair is thick so, its impossible for me to get it staight w/o the iron.

Better for your hair? Probably not but until I get better at other techniques it will have to do

Less manipulation? No, but I have to get it straight. I like curly styles, braid outs, etc... but my hair ends up very tangled and I experience more breakage. So I feel "forced" to keep my hair straight

Looks more "polished"? Definitely

Why?

Better for your hair?
I think that airdrying is probably the best for your hair because it involves no heat. Normally to air dry i just detangle in the shower with my shower comb and pull up in a ponytail.
Less manipulation?
Air dry offers less manipulation also in my opinion
Looks more "polished"?
when I have a fresh perm I normally can air dry and get the sleek polished look however if im stretching I normally use my hooded dryer to get the polished look

I only rollerset (sit under my dryer). I don't use heat on my hair at all--besides the Pibbs.

For those of you who do blow your roots or flat iron your roots aren't you afraid that you may damage your hair? That's what I am afraid of so I just don't do it. I'd like to blow out my roots (I'm not even thinking of the flat iron right now lol. No, I have sworn off that thing!).

I haven't had a relaxer in 11 months. I get my hair rollerset. I went to a different stylist yesterday and she did something I have never seen. She did not like using the flat iron because of hair damage, so she rollerset me, and then with a comb she gently stretched the roots and blow dried them. I like the fact that she did not use a brush, I was sceptical but... it worked! I look like my hair is relaxed.... that is, until there is a rainy day! lol

My hair :heart2: rollersetting... I usually flat iron my roots (gets it way more straighter than blowing for me) for salon type results :yep:...

All of them are great options to get straight hair....but i usually get a wet wrap and then get my hair straighten with a flat iron. I would also let my hair air dry then flat iron.....but, i would have to admit from experience....to get my hair like the longest length possibleeeeeeee....will be too blow dry with a dryer with a comb attachment then flat iron,,,:yep:

I air dry because it's less manipulation. My hair can't handle blow drying and what not.

I always USED to say: blow dry and flatiron.

Then I learned how to properly airdry and that worked okay but my hair was kinda frizzy, although I retained more length this way.

NOW, I rollerset and I feel like I'm retaining ALL my length and barely ever suffer ANY breakage. I just have to be careful when combing the hair before I roll it. I love my dome dryer and my rollerset rollers. I think my hair will benefit the best from:ROLLERSETTING - for life!

APL - I'm almost there baby!

Rollersetting

Why? I don't do the heat thing and my hair hates airdrying.

Better for your hair? It is for what I am trying to accomplish.

Less manipulation? Practially no manipulation.

Looks more "polished"? Ok! It is going to have to do:yep:.

If I actually want my hair straight I have to blow dry then flat iron. I love the polished blinging look I get from doing that. However, I rarely do it and use TONS of heat protectant when I do.

I'm actually going to teach myself how to roller set and see if that works once my hair is out of braids.

The majority of my length is natural growth, i find airdrying in a few plaits stretches it enough.

Why? Blowdrying used to make my hair feel dry, rollersetting just seems like alot of work when i'll have to straighten my whole head anyways.

Better for your hair? Much better, airdrying leaves my hair feeling moisturised

Less manipulation? much much less, i only have to use the denman while i'm straightening to make sure it's fully detangled much less breakage than any of my attempts at rollersetting or blowdrying

Looks more "polished"? I'm not sure. i dont really experiment enough with other tecniques. :)

I think I like the blowdry then iron method best..

I usually get a rollerset then she straightens the roots a bit. I don't use heat much so I think I'll start doing the blowdry method from now on, or at least switch it up

Why? My choice is airdry then iron

Better for your hair? It's less heat I have to deal with because I really hate sitting under the dryer, and then either blowing out my roots or iroing them

Less manipulation? For me it is because than the iron or blow dryer because it only hits my roots

Looks more "polished"? Roller setting then blowing/ironing looks more polished, but airdrying then iron/blowing uses less heat because the iron/blowdrier only hits my roots.

I forget if I answered this already but here goes: Airdry then rollerset

Why? Keeps hair smooth, low mani and looking great.

Better for your hair? Yes. The way that I am doing it these days is wash and DC the night before, apply leave ins and heat protectant, then put into 6 or so ponytails to dry the roots straight. The next morning, I roller set the dry hair. With this method, you are only under the dryer for 20-30 min on med setting tops. Less heat!

Less manipulation? Si! I do not comb my hair until next wash which is about every 3-4 days.

Looks more "polished" ? Si. My siggy pic is the result.
