What product or technique changed your "hair" life?

Aphogee 2 step - I'd be bald w/out it lol

Breakthru Shampoo - hair feels moisturized before deep conditioning

Darcy's Botanicals Transitioning Creme - long lasting moisture

Wen/No Poo Regimen - it's like I saw the light! I knew my natural hair was hating shampoo, but didn't know what to do. I needed a clean scalp, and regular cowashing wasn't doing it. Then Wen came into my life!

Curly Girl Method - Before I started using this, all I had was crazy frizz. Now I have defined curls! I have the hair I've really wanted my whole life...but didn't know I had it, because I was relaxing it to death.

Seamless combs/Finger Detangling - Finding out I don't need to beat my hair into submission has just been the biggest Ah-Ha moment for me...really!

HS seamless combs, protein as a staple and following the directions on DCs :*) ..in particular the timeframe so not letting dc's sit on my hair all day or all nite...oh and regular trimming for my fine hair it is a must!

I have to say JBCO, GHE, LOC method, and learning how to build a regimen.

ETA: Poo bars instead of shampoo - I love my Henna Sooq poo bars!

How does a denman brush help? I keep hearing about them

For me, the Denman is multipurpose: detangling, removing shed hair, clumping my curls, distributing product (conditioner) and last but not least-- how it messages my scalp. I only use it once or twice a week, as I try not to manipulate my hair too much. Even my Mom, who is the LAST person to want to do much to her hair, fell in love with it when I introduced it to her. IMHO Denman is this natural haired girl's friend. It is the only thing that I have used consistently since returning to rocking my hair's natural state.

I gotta be honest - I didn't have a hair life before coming here, so number 1 has to be LHCF.

The rest is down to M&S, protein and regular trimming (cutting out 25 years of relaxers).

CurlsBazillion Yes - I seem to call it something different all the time. However doing it regularly keeps me from getting overloaded by protein or moisture.

Let me also add:
Seamless comb

I can't follow DC directions, the little amount of time they recommend is a waste of DC on my head. My hair gets really parched lol. I gotta go all day and night on dry or mostly dry hair. But I totally agree with you about trimming.

Massages is a great bonus but the denman brush hurts my scalp!! :ohwell:

Going cg and sealing with castor oil.

sealing with castor is the best. I didn't really get the hype but after trying it I saw why everyone talks about it.

How could I leave out LHCF?!! I didn't have a healthy hair life before joining. Quick weaves and relaxers were my hair life

I agree with the bold. Plus daily co-washing and sealing with argan oil.

Argan oil is a beautiful thing...I love putting on a light layer of it on my hair right after DCing or cowashing then M&S.

CurlsBazillion.....i know it is so crazy how one simple hair practice can have such a drastically different impact on one head to to the next! I used to think leaving dc's on for long periods could only help but learned the hard way that the extended periods of saturation was making my strands weak! Whodathought!?

stretching relaxers

deep conditioning weekly

trimming only as needed

protective styling

minimizing heat

1. Co-washing daily does my hair better than dcing twice a week ever did.
2. No strong protein even though I am relaxed and color-treated
3. Leave-in's are a must

Transitioning (Big time!!!!)
Co-washing
Weekly twists
Buns
Twist outs
Using hair scarfs
Moisturizing and sealing with leave-ins and natural oils
Sleeping with a satin bonnet/pillowcase
Having a low-heat to near no-heat regimen

Still waiting on that product that will allow my curly hair to dry the way it looks when wet (long, shiny, without crazy poofy volume)

Rolling pressed hair on satin covered curlers and pincurling. Also, I really try to restrain myself from touching up the edges everyday.

@virtuenow Hey AO sisterwife! How do you do your castor oil rinses? :lick:

@NappyNelle Hey, AO still going strong. I deep condition on damp prepooed hair w/AO GPB, then shampoo my scalp only w/diluted poo in app bottle, then rinse, then do an oil rinse w/castor oil as my last step. I just add a little drop to my hair in sections. I rinse right away w/hot water. Love it.

For me, learning to be gentle with my hair has made all the difference. I used to rip out gobs of my hair every time I washed. I never made the connection between the fist sized gob of hair in the tub and the fact that my hair never went past shoulder length.

Once I stopped breaking off my hair every time I detangled I've gone from shoulder length to arm pit, and I'm now about a quarter of an inch from bra strap length.

#1 going natural & taking charge of my own hair care - healthier stronger hair (and I can still straighten whenever I feel like)

2. SECTIONS ! I am like the sectioning queen. I wash, detangle, style -- alla dat -- in sections. has saved me time, frustration, and hair

3 >>>> protein <<<< who knew? I have ultra fine strands and need some form of protein every week. still searching for the perfect PT though

(4) leaving reg. conditioner IN [warning: only when wearing hair curly / no heat] when I do my final round of conditioning I just leave it in. by the time I'm done showering some of it has absorbed and I need NOTHING else to style (except maybe layering some oil on top) always gives me perfectly moisturized hair for DAYS and actually has great hold, best of all since it's just conditioner I've greatly reduced my build up

-Tea rinsing and tea spritzing
-Removing soapy shampoos and switching to mudwashes
-Baking soda clarifying (soapy 'poo sends my ends literally washing down the drain-clarifying ones did that and made it hard like steel wool)
-Avoiding wet manipulation
-Re-introducing heat DCs
-Henna

Still waiting to see if AO GPB is the business. Only used once so far.
