IMO, it's more about the technique than the product.
Air drying loose always makes my hair come out drier, even if I use the same products. So I airdry in braids or twists. My hair comes out softest when I moisturize my wet hair with a creamy (not thin/watery or super thick like a dc) water-based conditioner/moisturizer/leave-in and then seal with a thick or heavy oil (ex: evoo, castor oil).

) and bun my hair up and let it air-dry until it's about 80% dry, then I let it loose and let it dry like that the rest of the way.
. It's a lot but I do this when I want to air dry my hair out. My hair is soft and moisturized for the entire day
