I don't totally adhere to the Andre scale of type 1 through 4 but I guess I am a 4a/b along with the majority of people that voted so far. My hair has a definite pen spring tiny coil pattern that is fuzzy and can define somewhat with oil and water.

About super angry naturals... These guys will target anybody ultimately because there is a natural insecurity and fear associated with black hair care. I have been shocked and insulted myself but at the same time I try to remember that the social issues we are emerging from are really tragic and can manifest in lots of ways including our hair issue. It's hard to see the incredible level of animosity that can erupt for the tiniest issue amongst some hardcore naturals... straightening with heat, thinking of a relaxer, using a texturizer, having long manicured locs vs a little afro, taking vitamins, 3c vs 4a, etc. I think these types of naturals may have a point sometimes but take it way too far and invest too much interest in other people's ideas to the point of craziness. There was an issue way back with 3c vs 4a. 3c was not an Andre hairtype until some naturals on naturallycurly.com campaigned for it and many thought it was an attempt to avoid being lumped with the "regular nappies" ie 4a/b. Personally even if that's true for some, I don't care because it is not my personal issue. I don't take other people's hair issues personally. It's complicated and everyone is different. Militant naturals won't accept that fact and won't agree to disagree.

To me 4 hair is a world of its own... There are some harsh realizations to come to terms with in regards to this hair texture. It would be one thing if hair didn't have any social connotations or meaning but it does and it's obvious because it's right there growing from the top of your head so everyone can see it and comment on it.

Wonderful post. You really expressed it well.

I'm assuming I'm 4a but my new growth looks alot like NGC's hair who is a 3c/4a :scratchch. I'll just say I'm a type 4. I don't believe IMHO that black / bi-racial people have just one texture on their head so it can be difficult to say. So I don't know why some people accuse others of wanting to be a 2-3 because some people do actually have this texture.

Im really not sure... Some days its seems like 4a and other days its seems like 2c..... I dont know if its the weight of the relaxed ends pulling the curl pattern loose or what... I cut a section of hair to see if it would draw up and it didnt it remained between 2b and 2c.... Last week when I washed and air dried my whole head looked like 3b... If I comb my hair it looks like 4a. I give up... Its just hair. I can say that its not straight!

Before Sept 1 I was 4a in front and a mean 4b in back. Since starting MSM, biotin and B5 I'm not sure. I'm 4 weeks -post usually I can feel beady beads but not this time. But I'm not complaining:lachen:

Can't really tell... do you have any dry hair pics? It's just that wet hair can look much different than when it's dry. The curls in your pic look very elongated... to the point where it's not even curly, it's wavy. So looking at it wet, can't tell if it's even tryuly wavy or curly... :ohwell:

No, but I can get some posted....
In my surge challenge there are a couple, but not easy to see....

Could we have added an "I just don't freakin' know anymore because I have relaxed for so long?" category? :)
