What is the biggest cause of breakage during a weave?

I self install mine...
Well I did after i cut mine in a bob (go figure)
I used to feel like my hair was really thin afterwards, and a lot would come out with the hair...
I know now cuz of LHCF about all the shed hairs etc, but I'm trying to see what else contributes to breakage, cuz it happens to a lot of people I know...

1)Tension...the braids and the thread being too tight. The thread cuts right through the hair.

2) Dryness...if the hair isn't properly moisturized before hand it makes it easier for the thread to cause breakage. Also, during takedown the hair will just start popping off.

3) Not taking care of the real hair while the weave is in...a lot of people don't touch their real hair while the install is in. Your hair still needs to be moisturized and conditioned.

4) Not being gentle during take down. Rough detangling and yanking out the thread or the braids is a sure way to get lots of breakage.

I think it's best that some time be taken in between installs when wearing weaves. I've heard of A LOT of women that had hair that thinned out because of back to back installs over a long period of time. This happened to me once. I've started taking at least 2-4 weeks in between to take care of my hair, and it thanks me for that.

As for breakage, I think too tight weaves and the weave thread slicing through your hair during the install, results in serious breakage. Some stylist have a tendency to pull the thread really tight when they're sewing, and the thread actually cuts your hair. It happened to my sis once, and I've heard of others that this happened to.

The damage I expeirenced came from my edges. She braided in a beehive pattern and my edges (which are not overly sensitive) suffered a lot.

I agree with the other ladies. About too tight threading and not moisturizing and conditioning while its installed

Leaving it in to long, then when it has dreaded with your hair, trying to take it out!!
I tell my clients all of the time. Don't leave your weave in for longer that 3 months! Do they listen? No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mostly the thread being too tight and tearing through the hair. Stylists who know what they're doing and/or and listen will know how to sew it right. Oh and not moisturizing properly before puttin in the weave.
