This is what works for me. I moisturize at night only. Some nights I apply a little Profectiv Helathy Ends or Carrot Oil Creme and THEN EVOO. It isnt a lot, but enough. I then detangle a little from the ends up, wrap and cover. I allow my hair to absorb the moisture over night. I guess to some, I probably look a hot mess by wash day :lachen:

So how does one stay moisturized and oiled without looking like a greasy hot mess?

I like jojoba, best.
Me too I choose other. I love jojoba:love:

It's not greasy at all!!!!

I have a little bit left that I use when I really need it. I told myself when I order it from HobaCare that I will only use it when I need it, because I hate ordering from the Internet...period. My mother helped me kill my bottle, so I'm holding on to the little bit that's left until I order another.

I use, at most, a quater-sized amount on each side of my head (I part my hair down the middle) and add a little more on the ends. I only do it once a week.

Oh ok, I've been using way to much. So you are not "greasing your scalp" just a little to the hair and ends.

I do NOT "grease my scalp" - Yikes! I apply tiny drops of oils to ends only. I only oil my scalp as a pre-poo treatment just before washing it right out. I HATE grease on my scalp, makes my hair (and me) feel dirty . . .

What do you guys suggest i mix with castor oil to reduce the consistency. I searched for ylang ylang oil and it was 23 bucks for 4oz. WTF??? Please im only a student and i dont have that much money to spare

I get 1/2 oz bottle of Aura Cacia or The Essential Oil Company ylang ylang for $10 at most health food stores or online for about the same + shipping. I've never seen a 4oz bottle! Most essential oils are very concentrated and only need a drop or two for strong potency. Ylang is kinda in the mid-range cost (rose or jasmin essential oils costs about $75 for 1/2 oz!!) But I love the smell of ylang and the 1/2 oz bottle lasts me about 6 to 8 months. A cheaper alternative that I like is rosemary oil, which runs about $5 for a 1/2 oz and it cuts the castor oil pretty good as well as leaves a fresh smell to the hair. I would start first at a local health food store and have them special order to avoid paying shipping. Good luck!

If one of your natural oils aren't listed in the poll, please list it in the post.
jojoba oil is something I always go back to. Everything else is either to heavy or sticky.

I just started using Olive Oil...it works very well for my scalp and hair.....

I mixed Monoi oil with my shea butter-keeps my hair moisturized and I'm happy with my 'concoction'...

Haven't used coconut oil in my hair in a couple of years... but it was very good to my hair/scalp!!

My hair really likes coconut and I mix it with a little olive oil. I use the pure organic type.

Has anyone compared regular olive oil to extra virgin olive oil? I wanted to know if their hair responded differently to them.

i use extra virgin olive oil rom the super market.i add it to everything esp my leave-in's.I love it.
when my hair is feeling dry i do a overnight hot oil treatmnt with olive oil.
i carry a little bottle of coconut oil to put on my ends throughout the winter. It really saves my ends :)

whoa.... there's just too many oils out there to pin it down to one. i like combinations - oils and essential oils. Thus far, i've used and like EVOO, castor, sweet almond, johoba, flaxseed, emu, kukui nut, and more. EO's, like rosemary, lavender, peppermint...and more that I want to try.

My favorite is extra virgin olive oil (from the grocery store) because it has a thicker consistency than olive oil made specifically for hair. I like Nexxus Botanic Oil which has safflower, avocado, olive, and some other oil in it. I add two capfuls of EVOO to make it richer...I also add two capfuls to my Headress Leave-In. Soybean Oil and Kola Nut Oil are good too. There are so many!

Coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, emu oil, hazelnut, castor oil, soybean and avocado oil. I have not tried the rest so I can't comment on them.

I actually like Jojoba but it's not in the list, I especially like it because it has no smell and is very light.

I also like coconut oil, but in general I prefer something that doesn't have a scent.:)

I haven't used castor oil for a long time but I really liked it when I used it, same goes for sweet almond oil.

For sure moisture and pulling moisture from the air I vote for castor oil. I use my okra combo (castor oil/carrot oil). I saturate overnite and shampoo out in the morning for special treat. My hair is so full of body and life it is amazing. Otherwise, just a drop spread on the hands and touching just the ends is great to preserve the ends of the hair. HTH Bonjour

My single favorite oil that I could never do without is jojoba. Otherwise, I mainly use blends: sweet almond oil, monoi oil, shea, and castor oil.

For me, I have to say the best moisturizing natural oil is Oilive Oil, Extra Virgin Olive oil. It's good for your skin, your hair and good to cook with.

I am in love with olive oil... problem is, I feel like it leaves me smelling like a salad. Anyone else feel like this?
