In my short time at LHCF, I've learned:

- The importance of reading the ingredients to figure out what does / doesn't work for my hair

- That my hair LOVES protein!

- That healthy hair comes from the inside, not just what I put on it. :yep:

- That I have to be patient! As much as I'd love it, my SL hair won't be BSL overnight.

- That I don't need to trim so often. Since I cut my hair last June, all of the 'trims' that I've had have cost me about 2 and a half inches. :wallbash:

- That hair care is pretty simple, as long as you have good hair practices!

I've realized that:

1) I, even I with my 4b hair type, can grow my hair to waistlength.
2) Even with the right products and techniques, it takes time to grow long hair; there are no shortcuts.
3) When it comes to my hair regimen, simple is best.
4) Intentionally underprocessing my hair actually has a term: texlaxing
5) Maintaining a hair photo album is a great idea for tracking progress.

I have learned sooooo much from this forum! BUT there is on thing that I have come to realize and accept about my hair. It absolutely loves rollersetting after it has been washed/wet/rinsed or co-washed or whatever. Nothing brings it back to life like a rollerset with heat. No co-washing, wet bunning, air drying, definitely no blowdrying or flat ironing :nono:can live up to a wet rollersets. So, back to my Wed and Sat rollersetting.

I have learned not to jump on bandwagons and to just use what works for me. Once I really beat that point into my head...things got so much better.

ALSO, I realized that there is no point in going to the beautician every two weeks for her to just wash my hair. I am just going to the beautician now for special occassions (relaxers, event hairdo, etc.).

AMEN! to that sister.

Well I have realize that we are all strangers on here and we shouldn't be rude or knock someone's ideas or slam newbies when they ask the same questions....we were newbies once....

I have notice that this isn't a debate forum and we shouldn't say what's right or what's wrong with someone decides to go natural or stay relaxed...and or use heat.

I have notice that direct heat is not the devil, but it shouldn't be used that much....I use or try to use heat once or twice a month, I can't air dry like I use to, too many tangles and knotted hair that comes out. So I have to straighten and blow dry my hair, but right now I only do it when I wash, that's so far been once a month.....

I realize it's ok not to trim my hair, I do believe in getting a trim once in a while, but not all the time.....but some people have to trim and some people don't have to trim.

I realized the importance of a protein/moisture balance.
I realized that I don't NEED my ends clipped with every relaxer touch-up.
I realized that cowashing is my friend.

co washing and dc'ing reguraly. Moisture! moisture! moistrue! Our hair needs moisture and my hair:love2:: moisture:2inlove:

Thank you LHCF :D

I learned more about dusting my ends.
I learned more about stretching my relaxers.
Co-washing is good for my hair.
Mostirizing and not greasing my scalp.

I'm not against disagreeing or expressing an opinon but as my godfather used to say "It's nice to be nice :yep:"

I have learned what types of products work for me (including relaxers).
I have learned that I don't have to relax at 7 weeks
I have learned how to not use heat and still look okay
I have learned the skills needed to go natural
And I have learned that there is still lots more to learn :drunk:

I learned that moisturizing my hair is not the same thing as slapping some grease on it.

I learned that shampoos/conditioners have different purposes besides just cleaning such as clarifiying, chelating, moisturizing, and strengthening.

I learned that conditioning and deep conditioning are two entirely different things.

I've realized that:
*The back of my hair is not naturally thin, but it was just damaged
*It takes time and patience to grow long healthy hair
*There are a lot of black women who have really long hair, I never really seen it in "real" life
*I can't wear my hair down everyday w/o risking my length and thickness

I learned that I can have healthy texlaxed hair and moisturized hair. I can grow my hair long like it was when I was younger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love LHCF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, being on this site has taught the following amazing things:
1. AA women can grow their hair to WL or even HL.
2. Regular and consistent hair maintenance leads to healthy hair.
3. What works for one person may not work for you.
4. Diet and exercise is key to growing long luxurious, healthy hair.***I never connected the two but after remembering how my hair grew like weeds prior to HJ when I was diet-conscious.
5. Decrease direct heat on my hair.
6. It is okay to co-wash regularly and shampoo regularly without it drying out or losing moisture.
7. LHCF sisters are willing to share their long-hair secrets unlike some of my friends.
8. Vitamins are a great way to maximize the amount of growth you attain within each month.
9. Ask questions, it is okay !!!!

That I can have long beautiful hair without a weave.

That the less I do to my hair, the more it thrives.

That since I changed the way I handled my hair, I began to retain length.

That there is a whole community that is hair obsessed like me:lachen:.

I have learned to respond to a hair issue by thinking through the problem carefully and logically and then proceeding by trial and error. I used to just react without really thinking and often did things that didn't help. I have also learned to ask for help/advice here and not at the hair salon!

Through others' example it's possible to transition and gain/retain length without going to a salon for regular maintainance

I can't do some of the LHCF practices, like detangling in shower- too much manipulation for my fine strands and it will not fully detangle my transitioning relaxed hair.

It's important to stay focused on doing what is best for my hair

As I work through my stash, I will be seriously streamlining my products as my hair's needs and wants are changing.

I have learned that the moisturizing and protecting my ends is the key to getting past what I once thought was my "terminal length"

...that there are hairstyles I once thought were retarded that I will now rock with a fierceness because I know what's popping off while I'm rocking it (lots of growth and retention)

...that with moisture I have curls and not just hard, stingy napps

...to embrace my shrinkage, it's like that little secret my mother always told me to keep to myself (okay, not exactly the same, lolol)

...that even though I'm not at my goals yet, there are people drawing inspiration from me

Protein Moisture Balance

Protect my ends

Oil doesn't moisturize, it seals

The hair cuticle and what it does

How to self-texlax, self dye, and self BKT

Vitamins to support hair growth

That there are other hair obsessed people out there!

*length goals suck
*challenges are fun, but i usually forget about them...lol
*my hair sucks up conditioner like no one's business
*WNGs are nice and easy, but not meant to be a staple style
*perfect twistout = cowash + gvp leave-in + 5 flat twists
*i look better with curly hair
*I LOVE MY HAIR

coconut oil is the truth, i love this stuff
my hair can and will grow long and strong
i can walk around with a twa and still feel and BE sexy
some drug store products are good and have nice ingredient lists
for my hair natural products are the absolute best

1. i can live without straight hair all the time
2. i can still look fly with my hair not "flowing"/ in protective styles
3. all that "white people's products" and "black people's products" is nonsense.
4. last but not least...I LOVE MY NATURAL TEXTURE

1) What works for some, definitely does not work for all!

2) My hair loves moisture (with some protein thrown in!)

3) How to listen to my hair.....

Do not play in the political forum you betta come correct and with back up for ya data or you will be called out. I like that by the way.

Hair care is a serious business the sistahs are loyal to a fault but will tell you what time it is if you come side eye with your progress, product or regimen. I like that too.

In all seriousness all the forums on this site have been incredibly helpful, generous, informational, etc, and maybe even hurtful depending on what side of a situation you are on but I wouldn't trade it for anything. :) I have also realized many of my goals for my hair and because of this group of wonderful sistahs I see my fantasy goal may even be a possibility. :)

The folks in this forum are like extended family the inlaws and the outlaws and I am soo appreciative that you all are in my life. Not sure what my life would be like had I not come into this group. I know it has been enriched for the better.:yep:

PS: The Off Topic Forum......it's a whole nother world in there. And yes, I like that too.
