When I had my stylist underprocess my hair with a relaxer after 3 yrs natural my texlaxed hair was the perfect balance of spirally goodness for wash and goes and extremely easy to get straight with minimal heat. My regimen was extremely low maintenance and my hair looked fabulous.

I found fully processed relaxed hair too tempting to slack off my regimen with especially during 20+ week stretches. I'm natural again and I find styling difficult. My hair grows in crazy random layers so wearing it loose is not happening.

Of course, my relaxed hair was easier to manage because I didn't do anything to it. Hence, unhealthy hair. However, now that I'm near natural, I've maintained a simple regimen and my hair's now healthy and manageable.

I love my relaxed hair hands down. Been relaxed since I was 12 and even though I didn't know what I was doing I still had shoulder sometimes a lil longer length hair. I remember very clearly being natural and I remember my hair ALWAYS being wrecked by the end of the day, my puffs were huge but floppy, always frizzy..... Yea..... I'm sooo good.

I voted relaxed, because when my hair was relaxed all I had to do was wrap and go. Granted I did not know much about healthy hair care, so I didn't do weekly washes, dc or freakin obsess over my hair. As long as it looked good i was cool.

My natural hair requires much more maintenance and time(detangling alone) but I love it. I actually enjoy caring for my hair and watching it thrive and grow, even though there are times when it is frustrating and I want to :pullhair:.

For me, natural. I got to WL relaxed and was perfectly happy with it, but in hindsight, the rollersetting and relaxing in sections and flat ironing the roots....that was a lot of work.

I dont have to do anything to make my natural hair look good or healthy because it's healthy by default. It's just about styling it the way I like it. Once I style it, I leave it alone.

southernbella I so wish I could say ny natural hair looks good/healthy 'by default'. Lol.

I ain't gonna lie…I love being natural, but my relaxed hair was way more easier to manage. I miss being able to run a comb through that ish.

Natural. My hair is so much easier to manage now b/c most of the time I just let it do what it wants to do which is curl up. Even though I was relaxed, it was a struggle to keep my hair straight. My hair still poofed and frizzed up.

both are equal for me...i had no issues being relaxed...and i have no issues now...the only thing i hated about being relaxed, was getting a touch-up..*shudders*

texlaxed hardest

natural .... getting there .... it not hard but its not easy either
let me clarify with true stories :lachen:

say Im washing my hair and my BF calls to say he wants us to go somewhere

relaxed scenario:

me: OK hun lemmi just wash out this conditioner.... I throw my hair in a bun, or depending on how much time I have blow dry and a quick run through with a flat iron (20 mins tops)

natural scenario:
me: I JUST started washing my haaaair
BF: OK we can go another time

Yep! This is one of the reasons I relaxed after years as a natural. Natural hair, for me, required way more time than I was willing to give once I had length.

They are both on par for me. It is kind of hard to compare because I do things now - henna, airdry, etc - that I never even considered when I had relaxed hair.

I don't find my natural hair difficult to manage. I do WnG or buns 99.9% of the time anyway. It takes about 15-20 mins to detangle, but it used to take me about that time to blowdry and flat iron weekly and on the days I went to the salon, it took way more time than that.

Relaxed for me...

I think it all depends on your hair texture... I'm a 4z, and I also have really fine hair... As a result, I could not straighten my hair without heat damage, I couldnt wash n go, takes a miracle for a great twistout, I basically have to be in twists 24/7 or braided up to have thriving hair... I couldn't wash weekly too.. cos of all the work I had to do after each wash (refreshing my edges took at least 2 hrs)

Now, being relaxed, I can wash and DC multiple times a week, I can flat iron without fear (although Ive only done it once in 6 months).... I retaining more hair even though Im wearing it loose.. I can wash, and look presentable in 1 hr (airdrying takes my bsb hair 30 minutes).. I know my hair strands are weaker, but this seems to be more manageable for me so far. Id love to be natural again, but dont see it in my near future, except I decide to go with short hair, or I can commit to cornrowing/twisting 24/7.

When i was relaxed i had to flat iron my hair everytime i washed it wouldn't stay straight more than a day ..natural hair is easier to care for ,i have a lose curly texture , for me its just easier to leave it be ,my only issues are frizzy halo and edges, dryness ,nothing gel can't fix (although i m not a big fan of it) ,i just need to make sure to be on top of my game when it comes to moisturizing and sealing .

I didn't vote because both my relaxed hair and natural hair have been manageable. After I figured out how take care of them. I would say styling my natural hair has been faster nothings faster than a wng

As far as just management for growth, natural was easier b/c there was no demarcation line and it could just flourish. For style manageability, it's relaxed hair. I can get in and out of a style pretty smoothly. I just have to make sure s stay on to of the retouches.

The first two years or so I would say my natural hair was easy to take care of. My natural hair only became difficult for me when it got longer. By about the fifth year it was too time consuming to deal with. Now I find my hair more manageable relaxed. I usually just pull back my hair. Because my natural hair was so thick and dense and a 4bz, it took years before I could get a decent puff even then, I could only pull it back if I blow dried it straighter.

say what !!!!!!?????
Im here saying that once my hair is longer it will get easier
like I could just throw in a bun and be done or throwing in 8 big braids like whoissugar and having a nice braidout the next day :spinning:

Natural. I just dampen my hair in the shower. Rake some conditioner through and go on about my day. I'm super low maintenance and use about 3 products. I wear mini braids a few times a year and when I do, I do almost nothing besides weekly cowash :look: to my hair.

Sometimes reading relaxer day regi's makes my head spin. I'll leave the chemistry for the lab.

this is what Im gunning for :yep:

Natural for me. Natural hair has more styling options and no more worrying about getting touch ups which I rarely did anyway. Only cons I have is getting a relaxer in the first place, frizz, and reversion which all could be easily controlled. But I would rather deal with that then the constant breakage, burning scalp, high maintenance regimen, and limp hair that a relaxer gives me.

I also NEVER had the 2 hour detangling sessions or spending a whole weekend to do my hair. It only takes about 15 mins to wash, detangle & condition my hair.

detangling isnt the problem for me .... its finding a quick style that doesnt leave my hair knotted the next day.

well in all honesty I havnt really tried many wash and go routines so its quite possible that the perfect quick style is out there waiting for me :yep:
Im just so used to twists and twistout styles (which only take between an 20 - 40 mins for me with "almost APL" hair)

natural ... tried perm and jheri curl ... felt STRANGE and did not like demarcation, product smells or salons.

Natural for me perms require much specialized attention my relaxed hair never grew past sl now only 2yrs natural im grazing apl and have plans to ho even further. It was a little hard in the begining but that because ive been relaxed since I was 15 but now im straight over here my natural hair isnt that complicated

I felt that my relaxed hair was easiest to manage but I love my texlaxed hair...it has noticable texture(people always comment on it) and my hair is thicker.

For me it was my locs. Talk about get up & go. If I wanted to curl them I could, or put them in a bun, braid outs, twist outs etc. now I have loose natural hair and I'm enjoying the process every day. I'm pretty low maintenance, I keep my hair in twists 99% of the time.

Natural for me is easier..relaxed is more high maintenance....but either way I'm really nonchalant about my hair..right now I was weekly and bun...when I relax i will continue to wash weekly..but I will also deep condish and do protein treatments..styling I have more options relaxed but I will prob only rollerset and braid out..

Natural, because my momma did my hair for me then. All I had to do was sit there and watch tv. Good times! :yep:

My relaxed hair is easier to manage. With my natural hair it was always time consuming and painful to detangle and the single strand knots made me see red!

OK get ready to cringe ladies.

When I was relaxed I used heat 5 days a week. I would flat iron my hair first and then curl it with a curling iron. The whole process took 45 minutes. I did not use heat protection or anything. After I was done I would drench my hair with a heavy holding spray. I'm surprised I still have hair on my head. Now I wash, condition, oil, and braid it every 2 weeks. During the week I just throw a wig on top of the braids.

As an adult, I have only been relaxed and now I'm natural. I find the care to be the same. For me, one is not harder or easier than the other. I'm not good at styling no matter whether my hair is relaxed or natural. The one thing that is worrying me now is that I want to have my hair shaped. If I were relaxed going to a stylist wouldn't be a problem. But, since, I'm natural I really don't trust anyone to do my natural hair. This bothering me much more than it ever did when I was relaxed.

I voted Jerri Curl! LOL! And I think I'm the only one who did. Back in the 80s, all I had to do was get my monthly touch-ups, shampoo, spray and go. That's it! And my hair grew so fast. It was thicker and a little past my shoulders which was long for me. I don't ever remember even half of the things I go through with relaxers and natural hair. So, I'm natural now and loving it, but relaxed, natural and texlaxed even has its challenges.

LOL! I voted for my curl too! It was low maint as long as I got my touch up. I think curls are thel lowest maint hairstyles ever.
