What Do Yall Do With Your 4c Hair?

If your hair is long enough to pull into a bun then you need to pull it back (with the help of detangling brush, gel and leave in) while it's wet and tie it down with a scarf. Sit under the dryer or let it air dry. The only other non wig/crotchet recommendation I can give is twists.

My hair is apl and if I don't keep it stretched it shrinks down to a Florida Evans length afro so i feel your pain.

:hiya:

Don't be discouraged, my hair used to be 4B and is now 4C since I entered my 30s. This is how I usually rock my hair, since cutting it:

Sometimes I do twist outs:

Sometimes I straighten it:

And compared to how my hair used to look, when I was 4B, I feel that my hair is more pin straight now, when I use a flat iron. Here's a comparison pic from way back when:

Before I cut my hair I also tried my hand at finger coils:

Right after I cut my hair, I wore my hair like this:

So1913 who used to be a member here, once said something that stood out to me: "I do what my hair tells me to do and we get along just fine."

Once you stop fighting your hair, the hairstyles will come easily. It's difficult with our hair type, because it's usually looked down upon. But I've come to realize that it's mind over matter :yep:. Here's the hairstyle I'm planning for my b-day:

For the summer, mini twists one week, twist out the next and repeat. A phony ponytail, here and there. For the winter, wavy or curly half wigs with cornrows underneath. I blow dry my hair year round on warm heat and blast of high heat depending on how straight I want it that day. Help keep the single strands to a minimum.

Mini twists right now.
How long is your hair? SL, APL,...

I know exactly how you feel about lack of versitility and shrinkage, but I realized I was often looking at my hair through the wrong lense. Anyway, I did marley twists and crochet braids until it was a length I was more comfotable with. If not in those I did puffs.

@Lissa0821 which phony ponytail do you use? Trying to find one to match my texture
