What Do I tell My New Hairstylist tomorrow?

I'm going to get my hair done tomorrow. I don't normally get my hair done up here in the city where I'm at since I'm in college...I just get it done if and when I go back home...well...I was referred to this lady who is "awesome" and charges $25 for wash & set's and $35 for relaxers!!! I've never paid under $65 for a relaxer! And she uses Avlon/Keracare/Mizani/Dudley all the professional products!

My hair stops at or about my ears...is even in the back, but short and REAL BAD see thru ends on the sides...I usually get a doobie/rollerset...But I'm tired of that look. I'm not sure what kind of style I want (I dont normally get updo's with gel and all the hot pressing....) I was thinking maybe some spiral curls on some big rods...all over...I dont wanna be too general and let her experiment or do something to my hair I won't like...

How should I tell her how I want my hair or do u all have any cute hairstyles to recommend to me? I'm kinda tired of the rollersets but if all else fails...

Whats that style called when you twist thin sections (like cornrows) back and secure the ends with a spiral roller or flexi rod?

If I have really bad thin ends (ONLY on the sides though) do you think it will look bad...I dont wanna be walking around with a mushroom 'do.

Feel free to recommend any hair styles...I want something different but not too old school tomorrow. I'm tired of doing the doobie.

Since you don't have pics it's kind of hard to give hairstyle suggestions. The spiral curls sounds like a good idea. But if I were you I would maybe consider going ahead and getting a rollerset with her for the first time. I would just make sure she gave me a good relaxer, conditions well, and could do my primary hairstyle first. Then maybe since she's not too expensive you could go back in a few weeks and try something different. If she's really good I bet she'll have some good ideas for you. Maybe you can do something to change up your rollerset like adding pretty clips or something. HTH

What's the name of the shop? I'm in charlotte too. U know these stylists are always advertising that they have mizani/dudleys/affirm.....and so therefore we assume that they will always use it in our hair. But this is not the case, my stylist would always switch relaxers....i'd expect her to use mizani and then i'd turn around and i'd see a "precise' relaxer box, which makes me angry. And why do u think they hide the names so you can't see what they are using. I told my new stylist straight-up that I am not a fan of 'mystery products'. I want to know what she's using. So anyways, make sure u tell her u want a salon brand relaxer. And 2ndly, look at your ends in the mirror and YOU DECIDE how much u want trimmed off, since your ends are thinning. Tell her explicitly that you don't give her permission to cut off no more than 1inch (or whatever). She'll look at u crazy (erbody in the salon will) but it's a way for her to see how serious u are about your hair. And last piece of advice, don't ever let a stylist do what they want...cause u will be hugely unhappy (and still have to pay for it).... if ur tired of rollersets, i'd say try spiral curls, or like you said the flat twists in a bun sounds very cute but it'll probably be pricey.
And before she does the relaxer, ask her about her technique. I had a stylist who combed it thru my whole hair, years ago. Also i've heard of stylists who don't believe in Neutralizer.

I feel like since I spoke to my new stylist about all my concerns, (even though she didn't ask, but i still spoke up in general conversation) i feel like she goes above & beyond to make me happy. Like for instance, when she was rollersetting, she asked me if Nairobi was okay. And she told me she was putting cholesterol on my ends before she relaxed. It's like she knows i'm educated, so don't want to try any funny buziness. ya heard! by the way, My stylist is Louisa at the Hair Cuttery at the lake in the University Area. I just used her once actually, but i plan to stick with her.

Mizani had some good tips!!!!! I would listen to her! Make sure you know exactly what she is putting in your hair! Write it down if you have to! For example:

Lye or No-lye
Perm Name
Date
Shampoos
Conditioners
