I thought of this when I took my update pics from my BC in November...while I was initially pleased with the growth I achieved (having admittedly not done much to assist it :perplexed) I was crushed when I saw the pics of my nape...it hasn't grown out at all...in fact, I'm dangerously close to sporting a bald patch back there... :nono:

It wasn't until I thought about the fact that the hair grew right below and above that one particular spot that I realized the likely culprit--I wear scarves nonstop...when I'm around the house during the day I don't take off my sleeping scarf (mostly to avoid reminding myself that I haven't done anything to my hair)...when I go out I *always* wrap my hair...so I decided to stop wearing them altogether...I need to drop the crutch and start taking better care of my hair--and appearance--anyway...

This thread is basically just public accountability for me...anyone else have any lingering bad practices they want to let go of once and for all? Please share...it's actually liberating... :yep:

Good thread to start. Mine is letting go of the concept of washing my hair once a month! This just won't work! I thought I could get away with it especially since I am in braids, but now I realize it's a big no no.

It will only hinder my growth not enhance it! Once a week is my routine now!

@Nubi- Are you gonna be using satin/silk pillowcases then? Maybe your should switch to a bonnet or change up how you tie your scarf. Just like how it isn't healthy for your hair to wear a bun in the same spot all the time the same can be said for scarves.

As for me I'm going to stop over manipulating my hair. Use an actual seamless comb, start combing from the bottom all the time, learn to not ignore my knots and splits ends, and also dc correctly instead of treating it like a regular conditioner.

I have alot of bad habits...

Deep conditioning my hair by circling a blow dryer over my plastic cap. I finally got a hooded dryer.

I already use a satin pillowcase...and a satin scarf...and a satin bonnet on top, lol. Pretty much overkill in the name of prevention...I'll probably just use the bonnet though. Or maybe, since I'm doing the braid challenge and my edges will probably be the only part of my hair exposed, something like this:

I actually thought about that when I was cleaning my multitude of scarves out of my closet, lol...maybe one day I'll gradually re-implement my headbands and other things that have to be tied, but I think I have to go cold turkey for now to force myself out of the habit...

Using my hair utensils for months without washing them. :look:

Product junkie-ism and bandwagon-hopping! I finally feel free of it!

Combing daily. Have to learn to do it with my fingers or not at all.

Yall need to pray for me!!!!
The last missing piece on the road to total haircare for me is doing low to no manipulation! The most successful ladies here and on other forums/sites/videos all say the same thing....they only comb on wash day during detangling under running water, and finger comb or smooth down w/ hands the rest of the week.:perplexed

How?????? I must have that unruly, don't ack right hair because I would look a HAM if i did this, especially anytime 6 weeks post and beyond....plus, I do not own a half wig or anything that I can cover up my own hair with and still walk around looking decent.

Add to that my natural urge to want to comb, groom, play with, etc. on my head at least 2-3x a day!!!!:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:
I mean, I protective style, don't use heat, etc. but I'm not feeling the non- combing thing yet but would like to.

I need to let go of headbands, but I LOVE them. My puff isn't the same without a band of some sort, which leads me to the second bad hair habit I need to rectify...perpetually wearing puffs.

Laziness. My regi is really simple, the most I do is moisturize and baggy daily. When I set the bun for baggying, I only remove it in the AM or whenever I am ready to go out. I wash/DC weekly. I am too lazy to do anything else with it. I need to allow myself to wear it down at least once ;0)

Rocking a curly puff striaght out of the shower....better yet no puffs this year! umh.........not deep conditioning.......not keeping my ends moisturized.......and brushing my hair.

Combing, combing, combing. Brushing, then combing again. I hate tangles and unsmoothed hair. I am really hard on my hair. Maybe I will have DH hide them for me. :yep: He hid the dryer last year and I have only used it once since. :yep:

1. Not tieing up my hair at night. (this has changed already)
2. Failing to moisturize and seal everyday (that's changed already)
3. Not having any regimen at all for DD and barely one for me.

Twirling the left side of my hair and constantly touching the back of my hair. Damn why does it have to be so comforting? Even when I was a baby I would twirl my hair while drinking a bottle of milk. Must break this 39 yr old habit!!!!

I realized Thursday that I truly am a PJ. It seems petty.. but its really starting to look more like an habit than a fun.

Pray for me. I will TRY to avoid the BSS and product aisles until after July.

Not wrapping/covering my hair every night.
Having my hair shelf at home looking like a BSS shelf knowing that I use just a few products on a regular basis.
Not drinking enough water.

Brushing ones hair is not necessarily a bad habit, but it has reeked havoc on my hair. So, I'm putting down the Denman brush. No more detangling with a brush, I don't need it. That's what God made my fingers for.

I need to stop wearing headbands or, at the very least, I should not wear them all day because they put stress on my edges.

I also need to moisturize my edges and ends every day.

Lastly, I don't need to clarify as often as I do. My non-sulfate shampoo does a good job of removing build-up. I think the sulfates have been making my scalp itch. I know that something is up because hair is NOT supposed to itch WHILE you are shampooing it.

Wishing my split ends will disappear over night...lol Waiting too long to trim is my bad habit. i really have to stop that. I have to schedule some seek and destroy method more regularly....tis it...Great thread...:)

Buying Stuff. Especially when I have enough "Stuff" to Shampoo & Deep Condition an Entire Third World Country. :look:

My Goal for the New Year is to "Shop My Stash" and Find/Rediscover all the Hidden Treasures that are Hidden in my Stash (and not On-Line or at some BSS):perplexed

Errthang I need is Right Here.
