What Are You Leaving in 2012?

Hair laziness - I have an avg to above avg growth rate but my hair will not retain nuffin' if I don't pay attention to her. Lesson learned in 2012. Will stay on top of daily M&S, weekly DC, and dustings when my ends start to look a little funky,

Negative hair attitude - My hair is beautiful - there are many women who are losing their hair due to alopecia or disease. So I'll be thankful, and areas that I need to improve upon will become my TLC areas, not problem areas.

APL - I hope to be BSB when I do my length check so I can officially say goodbye to APL (which is where I still am thanks to the hair laziness). I'm looking forward to longer, thicker hair in 2013!

1. Product junkism. I have finally found my staple products that work and are going to stick with it. Did not have to buy for the Christmas Black Friday sales.
2. Bandwagons. I will just focus on what works for my hair.
3. Wash and gos. To many tangles, and SSKs. Less retention from this hairstyle.
4. No heat regimens. My hair now likes to be stretched in a blow dry style. Less tangles, knots and more retention. I will be more of a straight hair natural in 2013. Flat iron every six months with a trim.
5. Trim every six months, instead of relying on S&D, every other month.

Product junkism
Experimenting
Complicated regimens
Leave in conditioners(Yea, you read that right! Lol)
Scissor happiness

New Products/Experimenting- My hair is doing fine with what I have. No need to mess it up with new stuff.

Frequent Cowashing- My texturized and natural hair loved it, but my straighter, texlaxed hair did not.

Forgetting to moisturize and seal daily- My hair needs lots of moisture and can't afford any missed M&S sessions.

Wet Styling, Airdrying, and Flat Ironing the length- Like frequent cowashing, these things just don't work for me anymore. Rollersetting and flat ironing my roots (when needed) is much healthier for my hair.

Haniging out and watching the natural ladies videos/threads...no pun intended cauzzzzzzzzze.........they make me think I want to be natural..........and thennnnnnnnnnn......I cause myself to do long stretches which is a no no:nono: for my hair cauzzzzzzz in 2013 and forward I am NOT stretching pass 12 weeks. So 2012 good bye to long stretches:yep::yep::yep:

1. Complicated regimens. Simplicity is my best friend. Since simplifying my regimen, my hair has thrived.
2. Frequently wetting my hair. More than twice a week is too much. I don't wish to manipulate my hair too much.
3. Transitioning. I am now natural and loving it. It was fun, though. I learned so much about my hair.
4. BSL Hair. I'm ready for ya, MBL!
5. DCing Without Heat. Yeah, it's time for me to get my new hair dryer and stop procrastinating.

Cheapie drugstore conditioners.

Saying a final goobye to all of my Garnier and Herbal Essences. They served me well, but I'm a total Wen head now. The others can't compete.

2013 will be free of:

Weekly washes/styling-- switching to 2xs month washing

100% Comb detangling-- switching back to finger detangling until 90% detangled then bone comb to grab any missed shed hair

Air drying-- going back to lightly blowdrying after washes

New products/ additions to regimen-- I FINALLY have a great regimen and product list, I'm not introducing anything new in 2013

No heat. My hair likes to be stretched and it causes less tangles for me. So I will be doing the tension method after every wash on low heat.

No trims. I had to do a lot of cutting when I flat ironed. As soon as I see my hair tangling when being pulled apart, I know its time.

DC'ing on wet hair. I've been doing it on damp/dry hair and my hair feels good.

Not PS'ing. I want to retain more. So by December of 2013 my hair will be long and fly!

Boring Protective styles. I want something cute and not just boring old twists.

I thought I was leaving my ex but it seems he has followed me into 2013...oh wait. Are we only listing hair products? :-/

Cleansing conditioners - they just don't seem to get my hair & scalp clean the way sulfate free or 2in1's do. I may try Wen later on and if that doesn't work I will probably never use these again.

Ecostyler gel olive oil - I HATE the smell of this gel. Smells like cheap men's cologne. Good thing I bought the smaller jar. I will stick to the argan, pink, and crystal.

Transitioning - no point since they are only a smidge of relaxed ends left. I am ready to be natural.

Self relaxing- though I wont have to worry about this ever again, I always ended up underprocessed until I just gave up with them. I am guessing relaxers are just not for my hair type anyway.

Buying too many products- I still have some I bought this spring that I havent even used once.

Sooo...What hair style or practices are you leaving behind in 2012?

New products- I have an awesome regimen and use great products! If I am in a fix and can't get Silk Dreams Products, I'll run to my nearest store for Mane n Tail.

Nonchalance/Stinkin' Thinkin'- I need to think positively to better reach my hair goals. That includes caring about my body inside and out (drinking more water, sleeping with scarf, not having an "I don't care" attitude about my hair).

Box-braids w/extensions. I normally cut my kanekolan hair in half and braid my hair up, but now it's getting to a place where my real hair is getting longer than the fake hair so I'd have to use the full legnth of the kanekolan or cut it longer. For me, at that point its just too much damn work. Hopefully I can experiment more with wigs and weaves in 2013.

Box braids although it was a nice rest and allowed a 16 week stretch

Too many leave ins after washing. I only need paul mitchell the conditioner and mane & tail detangler 6 wks post and beyond

Stretching beyond 11 weeks

No more color ever - still recovering from highlights debacle in 2011

I'll protective style less: I used PS as a way to assist in the first half of my pixie cut grow out. Now that I've reached my first goal, a bob, I'll wear it out more this year. It may grow slower, but I miss the style of freshly "done" hair.
DC with no heat: I will get back under the hooded dryer with my DCs in 2013.
No heat: As I'll be wearing my hair out more, I'll increase my use of heat.

I will leave behind the need to buy products just because they are on sale instead of needing them. I am a proclaimed product junkie on the road to recovery. I will do better in 2013.

Im leaving behind ...

1. Not cowashing between shampoos in the winter (I started this week and my hair feels so much more moisturized )
2. Not looking at ingredients when selecting hair products (I really need resources and help with this)
3. Not exercising regularly ( started zumba and yoga interchangeably everyday)
4. Not drinking enough water or tea without sugar
5. Not protective styling enough (I'm going to try keeping French braids or buns in weekly)

I'm aso going to leave Shea Butter in 2012 for a while ... and bringing but Coconut oil

oh i forgot one more thing. cheap a** beauty supply store satin bonnets. them things was slowing chipping off my hair. i had a pink bonnet and i looked the inside and saw little small hairs. so pissed. i upgraded to a better quality one (that doesn't mess up my pillowcase either) and no more little hairs. be doing great ever since.

Just1141 where do you buy your bonnets now?

Well there's a lot of information about them, but reading these made me think:

Sulfates: http://www.naturesparadiseorganics.com/dangersofsulfates.html

Parabens: http://thegoodhuman.com/2007/06/21/what-are-parabens-and-why-should-you-avoid-them/

Cones: http://www.splashofcolordashofspice.com/2012/06/why-you-should-avoid-silicones-in-your.html

My grandmother has been recently diagnosed with breast cancer, so the paraben information really got to me....I literally threw out all the lotions, body washes, and hair products I had that had it in them and got new stuff. Its crazy what companies do for money.

-most commercial products (if it doesnt cause breakage, it irritates my scalp)
-fear of scissors (fine short hair needs dusting until it's long enough to bun/hide ends)
-fear of protein (just needed to find the right KIND of protein)
-8 hour hennas (3 works just as well)
-boxed dye
-shampoo (breakage) unless to clarify or chelate

i'm leaving hoh syndrome, caused a lot of ssk's, and damage to my hairline. For some reason that's where i picked on when i'm stressed.

infrequent dusting: will be dusting at least once a month

different product brands: picking a staple and sticking to it
