What are somethings your hair loves that a lot of hair gurus say it isn't good for your hair?

-I notice a lot people hate coconut oil lately, but my hair loves it. I can't scream how much coconut oil helped my hair throughout the years.
-My hair love Glycerin and some silicone hair masques.

Also, I get a little upset when people misinform people about alcohol in hair products. Cetearyl, Stearyl, and Cetyl are fatty alcohols that draw in moisture.

I don't know if the gurus hate these or not, but I don't ever hear them talk about good-ole cholesterol, or Glycerin based moisturizers. I mean just Look at how well the Jheri Curl thrived...right lol. They are always mentioning expensive hair products like Shea Moisture and Camille Rose and so many others that are very pricy.

Give me some Scurl Activator $4.00, some Care free curl $3.50, and some Queen Helen Cholesterol $2.75!

I repeat these same products on my hair weekly and I don't have any problems.

I don't see anything wrong with grease or Silicones. If they work well, use them.

I left basics once and It tore my hair up. I'm back to basic and it has been fantastic!!
when I really got into watching gurus on YouTube I kept wondering "what is Shea Moisture?"

Silicone!

I can't do butters and oils on wash day anymore, they are too heavy and greasy for me. I seal with CHI silk infusion and my hair couldn't be happier!


I love butter especially during the winter time, but I see how they can be heavy. They say silicone will build up in your hair overtime, but I see the same thing with butters too. However, I don't mind either of them at all.
 
Shampooing frequently: I shampoo 1x a week, and might up it to 2x a week, and my hair is enjoying it. If you use a good shampoo that isn't drying, and moisturize well, your hair should be fine. I have low porosity hair that gets build up easily, and I'm starting to work out again, so washing only every other week, or monthly does not work for me.

No heat: I am going to start straightening my hair more frequently; I'll start off with every two months once it gets cooler. I'm noticing that I have a lot of SSKs, which has reduced my ability to retain length. By stretching my hair with heat, it does reduce them. As long as I stay on top of my protein treatments and use a good heat protectant, I should be fine.

Are you natural? Ive been thinking a lot about the heat thing. I have less shedding less tangling and knotting when my hair is straigh vs its natural state while I'm transitioning. I've had a lot of breakage because of knots. I'm having a problem retaining length because of it
 

I might get stone for this, but before the natural craze (which I believe is a good thing) took affect. I remember a lot of ladies on here in the late 2000's were relax and telax (not everyone, but majority). Their hair grew past BSL, MBL, and WL. Now, I see people saying relaxers are the devil, they will take your hair out, and you don't love yourself.
Yes, I agree with them that your hair might come out if you don't use relaxers properly. However, I've seen a lot of ladies grow their relax hair healthy.
Also, I don't think it's hate I feel it's personal preference.

I am natural. I just blow dried my hair this weekend and I'm liking the ease of the results. It's also easier to moisturize; the only downside is that it's more susceptible to shrinkage now because of the summer humidity.

Same here!!!!!!! This has been a constant for me forever. Ideally, 2x/wk washing is great for my hair. Especially if I were working out heavy, 2x a week would be a must for me.

Tangle Teezer
Sulfate Shampoos
Detangling with a tool instead of only using my fingers
Not sealing with an actual butter or oil
Minimizing the use of protein

@AgeinATL, I'm so hoping you're right about the bolded. They got me paranoid about using my KareCo Tangle Buster brush. LOL. I know in the short term it is GREAT for my hair. I'm hoping this holds over the long term. :smile:
