Well, as long as naturals are making confessions.....

I confess that, today, I'm even more narcissistic about my natural hair than I was on the day I chopped, and I can't imagine going back to relaxers now for anyone or anything. And just in case there's anyone who's either bored or in need of encouragement, I even updated my albums today -- something that I only do once every other blue moon.

Heh. I had you going for a minute, didn't I? /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Peace and much love,

Your album is wonderful! I'm glad you're lovin' your natural hair. I thought you were changing to relaxed hair with the name of your thread LOL!

Re: Well, as long as naturals are making confesisons.....

Your hair looks great! Whether relaxed or natural, it's great to be able to love yourself and just be happy with you! Happy hair growing! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Funny title. I was thinking "ohhhh lord, another one?" /images/graemlins/laugh.gif Anywhoo, I still love my natural hair too and don't see myself perming any time soon. /images/graemlins/up.gif

Good luck to any ladies on the fence with this decision.

ITA! After all the compliments Im getting I aint going nowhere /images/graemlins/smile.gif Im in a comfy place right now /images/graemlins/grin.gif

11 years going strong naturally and know its for life for me....

but i dont blame the ladies that dont want to go through the hassle they feel they go through with natural hair or if they feel its not for them, if i thought i could/would have healthy relaxed hair i probably would do it...but at this point i truly think i would miss my natural hair alot!!! both pressed (boof and all) and curly..... so its just not an option for me anymore...and like Ayeshia I feel im in a comfy place too, comfortable with myself and my hair ....i guess thats the ultimate goal for us all

Thanks for this thread. It was getting kind of scary there for a minute. When you see so many people relapsing back to relaxers it drives home how very much in the minority black women are who have natural hair. I don't feel so much like an anomaly knowing others are sticking by their decision to go natural.

I have to be honest and say that I love LHCF for the general healthy hair tips but have found that as a transitioner it is not the best enviroment if you want to avoid the relaxer temptation. It seems like a lot of the naturals left when the board went subscription-only. I tend to read only threads relating to transitioning or natural hair and view albums relating to those hair types just for positive reinforcement.

That said, I applaud the women who went back to relaxers for making the decision that was right for them.

Thank you for your post, it was very inspiring. I am a new transisitioner, it's only been about 4 months. And I really want to continue! One question, where can I find that coconut oil?

ChildlikeEmpress--- /images/graemlins/wave.gifyour natural hair is soooooo beauuuuutiful!!!!!And i love the way you are sticking by your decision to remain a natural-haired beauty... God Bless You......

Ha ha, I love the title!

I have done the natural thing on-and-off for seven years and in that time my hair has "told" me many times it could no longer deal with any strong chemical process. I am fully committed to staying this way for the rest of my life.

Re: Ha ha, I love the title!

I was wondering when you were gonna update, your hair is growing well, so /images/graemlins/orders.gif PUT THE SCISSORS DOWN!!!

Whew! I thought another one was going back to relaxing. Anyway, I totally agree. The more new growth I get, the less I want to relax. I am truly enjoying my natural hair. I don't think I'll ever relax again.

Irresistible: I won't lie to you. If I heard that you were even thinking about THINKING about relaxing all that gorgeous natural hair of yours, I would personally find out where you live, hop on a plane, show up at your doorstep, and BEAT YOU DOWN. /images/graemlins/rofl.gif

This advice might seem surprising coming from me since I don't even visit there anymore, but I think that Nappturality is the best forum out there for newbie naturals and transitioners. In the end, being there wasn't prodictive for me anymore, but when I was a brand new natural, it was a Godsend. And as for this:

Oddly enough, that's part of the reason why I CAN'T straighten my hair again. To me, straight hair is... well... ordinary. I don't dislike it on other people and it can look lovely and all, but this kinky-curly hair of mine is utterly unique -- like me. The uniqueness of my hair is a visible expression of the uniqueness of my spirit. I think the only way I would relax now is if everyone in the world suddenly did their hair like mine! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

jyonce: Re. the coconut oil, I get mine from a health food store called Whole Foods. I think that others have had good luck in Indian grocers. Maybe some of the larger grocery stores have it, too.

::cleans out ears:: Okay, okay! Or at least I'll try. *g* So far, I know I've cut off a good two inches of hair in the last six months.

In any case, I thought that some of the naturals here could use a little encouragement -- just a humorous little reminder that, no, not all of us are going back to relaxers. I'm glad this post served its purpose. Just make sure you're true to yourself, whatever that entails.

Thank you kindly. /images/graemlins/kiss.gif I'm glad you like the thread and the hair. Heh. I can't wait to see what my fro looks like when it's full grown.

ETA: I just peeked at your album, BTW. You've got some pretty great hair yourself!

I thought only one natural had succumbed to relaxers, who are the others? LOL

Anyhow, just almost a week after my BC, I have to admit that I really am loving my TWA! I look so freaking professional now and command respect everywhere I go!

There are times now when I wonder why I felt like I needed a relaxer in the first place. I know now that I won't relax my daughter's hair whenever I do have one. So few BW and BM realize the great gift we've been given with our distinctive hair type that varies vastly from individual to individual. Each kink and nap is different and unique.

I've never felt more proud of my hair and who I am as a woman until I cut off all of that relaxed hair.

Cheers from one happy naptural to another! /images/graemlins/bouncy.gif
