Weight loss and hair growth

I just want to get everyone opinion on this issue. I have about 120 lbs that I need to lose and I want to see if I can challenge myself by trying to loose 10 lbs with every inch of hair growth. I'm hoping combing these two together will help me reach both of my goals faster.

Has anyone made a goal like this for themselves? Has anyone found they have had more growth while working on getting to a healthy body weight? Has anyone had any adverse hair reactions while getting to a healthy weight?

Any other things I didn't touch on please don't hesitate to respond!

ive lost quite a bit of weight and it has done nothing but wonders for my hair..also since i work out alot i keep my hair in a PS style and co wash often which im sure it helping with growth and drinking alot of water is definitely benefiting my hair. i dont really set "goals" for my hair..but i told myself i would like to be APL and close to my goal weight THIS summer...so we will see how that holds up. i always keep this in mind though:

the smaller i get,the smaller my face will be.. the bigger my puff will look!l:rolleyes:

I have noticed that my hair grows faster when I am working out and eating right. I have never set a goal of weight loss that was directly related to a hair goal. For the longest I thought I was getting a spring growth spurt but it's really just a growth spurt because I work out more in the spring and summer months.

I have tried a few growth aids since joining but nothing has given me hair growth like working out & eating healthy foods.

There was a thread started on this earlier this week. I will look for it and post the link.

I think this will be a great challenge to make and join in!!!
I strongly believe that if we take the same time we use to take care of our bodies...as we do our hair (making healthier food choices, drinking more water and also increasing blood flow with excercise)We can see great results!:yep: I think the two actually work with each other healthy body- healthy growth.
I'm down for it.

I haven't made a similar hair growth/weight loss combined goal, but I have found that I'm much more willing to work out and sweat being a natural (no straight hair style that I'm messing up).

Good luck to you though on your weight loss and hair growth goals. :)

To loveisinthehouse: Well let me get off my butt then LOL. I was 170, 5'7", size 15 before I got my birth control (Implanon) in July '09. I peaked at 238 lbs and a size 18. I'm only 22 and I'm prehypertension! I'm crying just thinking about it! I just fall off everytime I start a diet. My new motivation is my family and my hair LOL.

As long as you are losing weight the healthy way your hair growth should not be hindered. I exercise 6 days a week, twice a day and stay within a 1200-1500 cal range eating fresh fruits and vegetables and loads of protein. All this is good for they body and hair. I am relaxed and its so easy to wash and keep in a protective style. I don't understand why this hair and exercise is such a big deal with some AA women. Also I'm 47 years old and My hair is in the best shape its ever been-the body is catching up. Best wishes on the weight-loss and hair growth goals.

To those of you who think this will make a good challengle I think it would too! I will think about it at work tomorrow and post something. I would be great to be doing this with others!

with weight loss I always say, if you fall off one day, just get back into good habits the next day. Diets don't have to start on a Monday and even if you fall off on Tuesday/Weds, just accept the error and get back into things. Never beat yourself up when you make a mistake. Also, think of what you eat in terms of the number of hours/mins you have to work out to get it off. It helps focus your mind.

Have to say my hair grew the best when I was exercising and eating right

It would be just in time. I have been researching diets, protein powder etc. As well as ayurvedic product. In no time it will be summer. A good time to have great hair and a great body:grin:

when I went through my weight loss period in 2009, my hair grew like wild fire. Im sure it was the healthier food, more water, the multi-v's and the exercise combined that helped my hair grow.

I think that 1 inch for every 10 lbs is a realistic goal. thats an average of 10 pounds every 2 months?

That sounds really good. If you eat right like deesquest says eating lots of protein , fruits and veggies and exercise how can you go wrong?

I have to get back on my program and do the right thing. I have been eating badly and not exercising for the last year or so and that most likely is the reason my hair is not retaining length.

I am on a personal quest now so I can't join any challenges but I'll be watching if you ladies do.

I'm on a personal quest as well....

see ya in the forty....

(I'll be keeping my eye of this thread as well)

OP I think this is an excellent idea as it would encourage responsible weight loss as hair growth is also a goal so challengers would have to eat responsibly.

if there is a challenge, I would definitely join. I have gotten so lazy with working out that it is not funny. I did noticed when I was working out my hair was growing more but I wasn't even concerned about that all was concerned was dropping the weight. I just started walking again and hopefully by next week back at the gym 3-4 times a week.
