I like Weaves and Wigs,

IMO, Weaves stay more secure and Wigs allow more flexibility as far as having assess to my own hair.

Both allow excellent retention because I take care of my hair while braided underneath. HTH

Omg Jersey Girl I feel you. You had me lol at work like a dummy as usual my co-worker giving me the side eye. I went to Chicago with my wig. There was one day where i found out why they call chi town the windy city. My wig almost flew off my head. My friend kept asking me why are you holding on to your hair. I said cause the wind about to take it and i m not in the mood to run after my wig down the street.
With that being said i think it depends on your lifestyle and needs. I have had a wig on since February. You can take it off and have ready access to you hair and it doesn't take much to take care off depending on what kind of hair you have. However i m going on vacation and decided to put a weave in. I don't fancy being the middle of the Bahamas and when i look over my hair floating in the water. I can't swim.....so yeah ........ I don't think so. But i think when the install has been in for awhile i might go back to wigs after. I like switching it up.

Thanks for this thread. I'm currently having the same debate w/myself. I love wigs for the versatility, but I love weaves for the growth and ease. Decisions, decisions...

ThatJerseyGirl, I'm at work all distracted by your posts. I'm looking outside my window at the train station and visualizing what happened to you and I started busting out laughing. :lachen:

with weaves you have to be so careful about product application and not getting it on the weave hair.

Why? I moisturize my hair (under my weave) regularly. Product gets on my weave hair all the time and it causes zero problems. The weave hair also needs moisture(if the hair is human) so it's nothing but beneficial all the way around. BTW, I've been using kinky curly hair.

OP, I love both wigs and weaves for different reasons. For long term protective styling I prefer weaves. I don't have to mess with my hair outside of washing, deep conditioning and moisturizing on a regular basis. I love that I retain so much growth with weaves. I still have access to my scalp with my weaves so I don't feel suffocated which I often feel when wearing wigs.

I like wigs for short term style. I like that I can take it off once I get home and I can change up my style more frequently.

I'm going to be wearing wigs in the winter. I plan to use LadyP's method/regimen. I plan to braid/cornrow my hair and leave it alone for 6-8 weeks and take care of my hair under the wig. I expect that this method will reap the same benefits and growth retention as a weave without the commitment of a sew-in. When I wore wigs previously, I was redoing my cornrows every two weeks. I think truly leaving my hair alone for the long term is much better for my hair.

Great topic OP:)!

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:, I m laughing so hard.
Look he giving me the side eye asking me what i m laughing at......again.

OP whatever you do if your going to do wigs make sure you hair is braided nice. Mines is not so if somebody touch my wig or try to take it off or some mishap happens i m gonna be embarrassed. Make sure you wear a something underneath to protect your hair.

I prefer a wig, Sometimes I am self conscious about wearing a wig, but nothing beats the ability to take the wig off at the end of the day and properly wash, deep condition and moisturize your hair. I also think that a weave needs way more maintenance($$$$$) that a wig.

@Jersey girl, you are way too funny!:yep:

The problem I have with you is that I feel like i'm listening to Madea when I read your posts. :lachen:

......it's a good thing though.:look:

you all know the trouble i've seen lololol

i love the wigs. don't get me wrong. i've seen some very nice ones on women too. i wish i could, but i just can't. i wanted to try one on, but i can't since i gotta head fulla weave....

i MAY revisit wigs again....but I LOVE my weaves, especially now with winter right around the corner. Plus, I love the growth I get from them too. My hair is funny. All I do is oil and spray. I spray morning and night, oil every other night. And it just takes off. When I leave it alone, it grows. Even when I wore wigs, I wouldn't do anything to it but spray and oil. Washing and deep conditioning every week was too much work. I don't have that kind of time on my hands.

Good luck with your decision. Have fun with the wigs.

Wiggie, wiggie, :wow:

 Sorry, I voted wig because with a good half-wig you can really look after ALL your hair! Learn to blend the front and hide the rest. You can take it off and take care of your hair everyday or as needed!

I vote wigs. Weaves used to make my already itchy scalp itch worse and the thread thinned my hair out a bit. Once I quit weaves my hair has thickened up considerably. I like access to my hair since I shampoo and/or cowash frequently. And since I have an itchy scalp I would waste money getting sew-ins because I need to shampoo weekly. Now I just buy the hair and make a stocking cap wig.

ETA: I don't wear wigs when I go see my dude, lol. I just rock a braidout.

I voted for wigs. I have mine made and so generally get it looking just how I want even thinning it down if it looks tooo bulky. I like to be able to whip it off as soon as I walk through the door and let my hair breathe. I was going to try and weave till Dec10 but 6weeks was all I could manage. I'm going back to my wigs. I will start using LadyP's regimen and see how that goes.

i prefer wigs cuz i can switch up styles daily
there're fast and easy and i can take it off as soon as i get home
i can wash my hair ( w/ a weave it just makes it more difficult)

I voted wig. I like the idea of taking it off when I want. I can also do my regular regimen.

I tend to neglect my hair when it's in a weave. For me personally, weaves are too much commitment and just the thought of one makes my head itch

I prefer my weaves. I can access my scalp, its low manipulation (I have the zigzag curly by www.extensions-plus.com). I've reused this hair over and over with no problems. It is also condusive to my lifestyle because I workout 5-6 days a week.

I have had horrors with wigs. Don't get me wrong, I miss them but a sista needs something that is secure. Fall is coming which means the wind will be blowing, and just MY luck, I can just see me running & chasing after my wig. I'll tell you a story.

Picture it. My birthday, January 13 & I went to visit a friend for some very much needed sex. Well, I had on a wig. We were gettin it in. Not trying to be graphic, but he was on top.,...,and I wad caught up in the moment. Well, I opened my eyes and he was busy! But to my surprise I was like......where in da hell are my bangs.........,lo and behold, the wig was sittin up on da pillow!!!! Im layin there with the stockin cap on. And it wasn't even a real stockin cap. I wad so cised that I was gettin some, i took a pair of pannie hoses, cut da legs off day joint, and pulled it on my head. Snatched da wig off da door knob n kept it movin out the door.

But that wasn't the worse part. I grabbed that wig off da pillow and put it back on my head before he noticed. We decided to change positions. He wanted it from the back. So now, Im facing the mirror and he is behind me. Well, its getting reeeeeeal good. Why did I throw my head down and then back. The wig flew off & hit him in the face. Can I tell you when I saw myself and his face in the mirror, it was priceless.

So you see, for purposes of getting intimate and for your sanity, you might want to opt for the weave shuga, cuz I don't care what you do, that joka ain't goin NOWHERE!!

Plus, the money you spend buying a new wig every month, you could have purchased 2 packs of quality hair that you can reuse over and over. The key is not to get the cornrows tight.

We still laugh about that to this day, Steve & I.

*sits back n lights up a newport one hunnit*

LOL this happened to me! For some reason guys seem to LOVE pulling hair during sessy times :lachen:

I went to the club with my man and we got wasted...went back to his place. Of course I looked super cute with my Sensationnel 7047 halfwig (think long wet & wavy...very pretty). Well I woke up the next morning hungover in MY BED with NO HALFWIG  :perplexed: :wallbash: It was back at his place  I vaguely remember it coming off and we just kept going lol. I blame the alcohol. He gave it back to me later on that week . Some situations you can't do anything but laugh about.

ETA: even though this happened I still luv my halfwigs. I just secure that sucka with a boatload of bobby pins. For some reason he doesn't touch my hair anymore :look: Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. :ohwell:

It's so much easier to maintain your hair underneath. Also, there are no blades, scissors involved to take a wig off!

Ive never had or wanted a weave I wear halwigs because I could not sleep with fake hair on my head I love that I can take it off whenever I want and have full access to my own hair. I have been hesitant about getting a weave becuase im afraid of the needle and thread breaking my hair strands and the weave hair hanging off my cornrow braid would seem to cause stress to my hair.

OK, I get what you're all saying about the weave worries. You all have beautiful hair though, whereas I don't really. Since it's not growing how I want it to, I feel like I don't have much to lose to be honest. I might just try a weave because I'd like something different and it'd be nice not to have to look or deal with my hair for a while. Plus, there's always the chance that I may have a success story of growth (hoping  ). Thanks for the replies ladies :yep:

I vote sew in if you're going for the natural factor, but if you want to have more access to your hair, then I vote wig. They are both really nice options.

I vote wigs, you have access to your hair when you want and there is a lot more versatility. Some say a weave looks more natural, but just like a good weave, you can get a good wig. You can do low mani under a wig as well :yep:

I voted wig. I just order a human hair short wig from especially yours.com. I am using it for my PS for the winter months. I am planning on weaing cornrows under it.

I voted for the wig primarily because I feel it would be easier for me to effectively care for my natural hair. What I mean by that is in the past I had issues when washing curly weaves (smell, dampness, etc).

Another vote for wigs here. I love the ability to come home and take it off. I also love the option of taking care of my hair when needed.

I wish I didn't frown upon wigs six years ago when I started wearing weaves; my hair would be down to my arse now lol. Initially when my hair broke off, I wore weaves because I only thought old women wore wigs and I just couldn't see myself in one. Oh the cost of ignorance! Noooooow after all of these years, I finally realized that weaves are absolutely no good for my hair's health and decided to wear wigs. So far, so good. I have so much more control over my hair now and its doing so much better! Thanks LHCF.

I love the natural look and longevity of a well-done weave, but I also like the full accessability to my hair that a wig offers, so I voted for a wig. True, a wig is more costly if you buy a good one each month vs. one good install with 2 packs of hair that can last 2 mos if taken care of. I had a bomb sew-in but it broke my hair off in the back some years ago, and since then I've avoided them.

I'm just very cautious of other hands in my hair. So if I get a sew-in I will allow sme1 else to cornrow, but I will just have to install it myself. Now my future SO/husband just gonna have to get used to wigs and my natural, unstraightened hair in the bdrm cuz I ain't flat-ironing for 3 hrs and sweating it out in 20 mins! He's just gonna have to like weaves otherwise, lol. ThatJerseyGirl's post was funny, but I can def see where certain men would not be so cool about it (a wig flying off in bdrm).

Umm. Okay, that wig story by ThatJerseyGirl was HILARIOUS! I prefer wigs though, because I like access to my hair and I don't wear them all the time. Usually, I'll wear a wig for a few days when I get bored or tired, then wear my own hair.
