We are killing our hair....one weave at a time

Actually I am not surprised at all. Again, I believe it is jacking up most of their hair too and I hope that doesn't offend anyone.

That's why in another thread, I recommended that people do their own weaves. Because a lot of people on here are disappointed with their hair after wearing it in weaves for a while. Common weave problems range from thinned hair due to tension and breakage from improper nourishment. However, I do know some people who have had great success with their installs. Mostly self weavers....

Wow. You gotta have mad skills to do a self install, right?

I am glad they are starting to sell kinky curly textures now. AAMH, Halleys, and a lot of chinese vendors are starting to sell hair that matches our hair textures. Blending issues has ALWAYS been a problem especially for the hair types in the 4's.

Yes, I will be ordering kinky curly texture from one of those vendors. I need a time out while I'm on my Christmas paper chase. I will be doing my own.

I dont think its the weave i just think its people not being properly educated on hair care.
And yes i think that their hair is just as tore up as most of us who dont know proper hair care while maintaining a weave. Funny because i used to always think because they were rich they could afford the best treatments and care. But it just comes down to whether you are willing to practice good hair care and not just have a stylist slap a weave on your hair, go about your business, and not manage and maintain hair underneath.

Well, I'm gonna get my cousin to braid it to the back and tuck. Then I will do my own threading. I prefer it this way as I know where my threaded knots are. I also know how to stitch (Malaysian) but that's not too good for the hair to me. I'm also thinking of netting the tracks on a wig head and attaching it to my hair so I can sew certain areas without sewing the whole head. Hope that males sense.

Halleys curls has bad customer service so says the ladies of BHM so I'm gonna go with allaboutmyhair.com I might also get Bohyme Brazillian.

I just love how everyone is running clean over my post that state this has nothing to do with weave bashing, weaves vs non weaves or none of the other stuff. I just love how this thread went completely off topic and I feel like nobody really read the OP..... I ..just...love it ~side-eye~

Girl my weaves were a HOT MESS when i first tried to self install. I watched TONS of youtube videos and my installs are on point now! I am now my neighborhoods weave installer lol. I even wash their hair and condition between installs and make oils for their scalp. I DONT PLAY LOL
It takes practice of course. And BHM also helped me tremendously. Them sisters dont even look like their wearing weaves Especially when they throw their kinky curly weave in. OMG im drooling thinking about it lol.

Are you natural? I always blow my hair out before getting it braided. Now I'm gonna BKT well. This helps when I take it out.

I want some bobraz too but I don't know if I need two packs or one. :( My birthday is in 5 days so I don't know what I'm going to do to my hair.

Where weave is concerned, I believe technique is where the damage begins. Many of those women start out with microlinks, fusion, etc. which can thin out the hair (eg. Britney Spears). Bonding can cause damage as well. I would be fearful of the thread cutting my hair with a sew-in because I have seen that happen to some also. Mandatory disclaimer: there are always exceptions.

I have seen some really undetectable weaves done on Brazilian women. The texture match can make a world of difference.

A bit off topic: As a woman, I find a great deal of our beauty rituals absurd upon observation . Does that mean I am going to stop participating in them...no! Seriously, would I be offended if someone thinks wearing high heels, makeup, nail polish is ridiculous...no!

Oh okay. Well from my encounters with the women Ive met and know. They dont get mirco links or fusion just the basic braid and sew in or glue *insert scary music snippet here*
Just the normal stuff.
But they just dont care about the hair underneath. It drives me crazy. I just dont get the neglect. Maybe because im so into hair care it makes my skin crawl knowing women arent doing ANYTHING with their hair underneath.

I apply my protection and go with the flaw. After the BKT, I don't use the flatiron but do rollersets with caruso.

I have a comment though - one of the reasons people see BW as "self haters" or not accepting their own texture is when they wear weaves/wigs that look like straight, silky, European hair...but has anyone ever considered that as fake hair, that texture is easier to care for, especially with synthetic hair? Personally speaking, my first wig was really curly, and I wore it like, two times before it became a frizzy, matted mess (and unlike human hair, you can't just wash a curly synthetic wig and have it bounce back without roller setting it, which I am not willing to do b/c I wear wigs for fun and to PS and I'd rather roller set my own hair than some dang wig). After that I bought a couple of straight wigs, and they are just so easy to detangle and keep nice looking. I saw a wig that was almost identical to my natural texture, and it was human hair, and that thing was like $375! The cheapest one I found was about $200, and if you aren't a hardcore wig/weave wearer, why are you going to pay that much for hair? They were also full lace wigs, and I am not trying to glue a wig to my whole head. So once again, people can jump to conclusions without really knowing the situation.

P.S. If anyone knows where to get a good kinky curly wig that isn't full lace - shoot - I'd rather it just be a full, regular wig, please let me know, lol!
