I HAVE HEARD that we are supposed to wash our hair at least three times a weekIs this true? What are the results of doing this? Also how would we style our hair if we had to constantly wash it?Any replies would be helpful.Thank you

Hi Sweetdaises,

You don't have to wash your hair 3x a week. It all depends on what works for you. I wash my hair every three days and it has really been the best thing for my hair. For others, they wash once a week and that works. When I wash, I usually let my hair air dry then comb it into a bun. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I can only wash my hair once a week. I have been thinking of increasing that, but I have barely enough time to wash it once a week.

Those who do wash it more than once a week tend to let it air dry by pony tail method or in braids etc. Maybe this might help.

It depends on what works for you! Like Pebbles, I wash my hair every three days, and this works for me. I used to wash it every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks, which was a big mistake. Any longer than that and my hair starts feeling and looking dry. For me, there are no bad effects from washing this often, only good results. I always roller set my hair after washing it, but many other women here use the ponytail method, a single bun, or small buns. Experiment and see what happens!

Hi there /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Like everyone else said it's all about your individual preference. Whether your hair will thrive under these treatment conditions depends on your hair and your scalp and the way you handle both.

Your hair needs moisture and your scalp needs to be kept clean. How often you will need to wash to make that happen depends on: The dryness or oiliness of your scalp and the ability of the hair to retain moisture. The dryer your scalp the less often you should wash. Oilier scalps should be washed more frequently. Dry hair needs moisture and lubrication often as well. If your hair retains moisture quite well you can wash less often. Determine which of these categories you fall into and begin a wash schedule based roughly on what you assess. Adjust it as your hair and scalp let you know what their preferences are. In any case, any hair, on any one, should be washed at least once a week. Two is TOPS. And for many of us that time frame pushes the envelope...

If you determine your hair needs to be washed more frequently then braid outs, airdrying in a bun and wearing a curly ponytail the next AM, and rollersets are all great options. I personally think for most people every 2 days isn't absolutely necesarry, but if it's what you need it can certainly be done! Some ladies here rinse their hair everyday! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good Luck! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dear Sweetdaises
I wash my hair using a conditioner every day, and I shampoo once a week. I usually air dry my hair, I normally put my hair in either twists or flat twists or buntu knots, so it is styled already. Yesterday, I experimented with washing and deep conditioning in the shower, then I wrapped a towel around my hair and I changed my clothes, after I had finished, I parted my hair, put my castor oil and wild growth oil in my roots, then I made a mixture of wild growth oil, castor oil and aloe vera gel and rubbed it into my hair and I combed my hair into a french plait and left it until the next day and it seems to work very well, especially, if you tie your hair with a silk scraf, it smooths down the hair very nicely. I have type 4b hair, which suffers from a lot of shrinkage, but I have found that this washing every day, has done my hair world of good, it keeps my hair moisturised with putting those greases which are no good, and I have been able to retain my length.
