I heard a rumor that african americans shouldn't wash their hair often , because it will get stripped of all the nutrients, and end up dead and dry. Any help would be appreciated. How many times should I was my hair per week, and anything along those lines would be nice. I don't even own a blow dryer, my hair is natural. Its curly, and I don't mind washing it I would like some advice though.

Our hair will end up dry without that moisture from washing, and technically it's already "dead".
The rumor you heard I believe is a myth and I've heard it too from my grandmother and her grandmother and so on. I've learned that our hair needs moisture more than anything. The dryness they may be talking about can come from the shampoo itself. I wash my 4a/b relaxed hair twice per week. Some of the ladies on this board (relaxed and natural) wash daily with conditioner washes (no shampoo). I don't have any links prepared for you yet but there is a lot of information on this board about washing hair if you want to do a search.

the myth has some truth. If you was everyday with regular shampoo or rinse everyday with hard water you hair will become dry.

The key id to wash with a mositurizing shampoo as much as you like, and condition everytime you wash ( deep or instant).

If rinsing make sure you water isn't hard or use distilled water ina spray bottle, then apply you leave in creme or spray.
