I need some encouragement. I am trying to go 12 weeks, which will put me close to my 1st wedding anniversary. HOWEVER, The Real HU's Homecoming (Howard is the real HU for all you HI [hampton institute] folk) is coming up, so I gotta do something. I am probably going to get a wig. I don't know. Just babbling. Where was I, oh yeah I need words of encouragement.

Could you try a Dominican Blowout? That should have your hair, including the newgrowth looking good.

Kaddy, avoid combing as much as possible. I dont know how often you wash your hair but keep it at a minimum while extending your relaxer touch-up (maybe wash & condition every 2 weeks). This helped me avoid breakage; I extended for 12 weeks, the longest I ever did! /images/graemlins/shocked.gif Keep up the good hair care, you're making great progress! Hope you reach all your hair goals! /images/graemlins/kiss.gif

Thanks for the advice poohbear. I usually shampoo once a week, but felt the urge to do something last night.

Anyway, I let it air dry over night...

OK this reminds me. I need to change my siggy to say my hair type is 4D. Back on task though, yeah, my hair was so tightly curled at the roots (nappy if you need it clearer) so I parted it and greased my scalp and the roots with Ultra Max. Put more stuff on it to make it decent and am now sporting my protective style.

Thanks for the advice. I normally fingercomb my hair after I rollerset it to wrap it at night and stuff. then the rest of the week I wear it in a protective style.

How's everyone doing with this so far. Ina couple of weeks or so, I will be 5 months post relaxer. I am shooting for 6 months this time. My new growth looks pretty and wavy, so I'm not stressing to relax right away.

Hope everyone else is having success!

This Saturday, I'll be 4 mths post but I may go a little longer. I'm enjoying my natural hair as well! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

im at week 4 of my relaxer i plan to stretch it out till the january wish me luck im on the bun challenge now too. so im keepin moisturised im at bra strap now so i want at least 4 inches past that.

I haven't officially joined the challenge but I am nearly 10 weeks post relaxer..The combination of these supplements: silica, biotin, msm, and evening primrose oil have really made my new growth extremely manageable..I have been using coconut oil as a moisturizer, and have recently started using castor oil. If I hadn't decided to self-trim, I would have much more new growth. I need to keep my hands out of my hair /images/graemlins/wallbash.gif

I'll be 4 weeks post-relaxer this Saturday as well. I'm enjoying all of the new growth too. /images/graemlins/smile.gif Conditioner washes with KeraCare Humecto, rollersets, making sure that my hair stays moisturized all of the time, and combing my hair very gently with a wide-tooth seamless comb have helped me to maintain healthy hair while stretching my relaxer for this long.

Let me know how it goes. I'm still hoping for 6 months this time. I think I will make it, because 5 months is just about 1.5 weeks away or so.

HOW DID EVERYONE DO THIS YEAR?

Well, it's been about a year now, so I'm ending this challenge. How did everyone do? So far I sitll haven't relaxed my hair. However, I think I am going to do it this Friday or Sunday. It has been a little over 6 months now, my absolute longest!

What have I Discovered over this past year that's helped me to strectch out my relaxers:

1. making my own "sheabutter mix pomade" to smooth down the newgrowth.

2. minimize manipulation (bunning, bagging (doing the baggie challenge now)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. CO washes ... (thanks DSD for putting up with all my PM's about this ... I call her the CO Wash Queen behind her back .... lol)

4. Good conditioner

5. And, best of all, all the wonderful advice that I see being posted by the ladies here ... which is where most of the above mentioned things came from.

im still stretching out my relaxer im on week 11 and i guess goinin into the third month for a while i was jus wearin tha protective still of the clip bun and doinin the baggie method at night and takin my vitamins. my new grwoth was growin in so rapidly i resorted to cornrows like i did over the summer. i decided to do that b/c i achieved so much growth with the braids i dont have to style it everyday which means no combing and not having tha hair exposed to tha elements which is always a good thing. i just keep it moisturized continue to take my vits and tie it up with a scarf during tha day when im lougin or gettin ready for bed. as for the itchies i occasionally get i use braid sheen and put wildgrowth oil which i jus purchased on my hair which is working very well .im tryin to see where i will be if i continue to strecth it out maybe until feb. i said jan b/f but i think tha longer tha better when i do im def goinin to use motions cpr. wish me luck ladies and happy growin ladies .

Saturday will be 9 weeks for me. I'm excited because I only went 4 weeks before I found the forum. I'm trying to get to 16 weeks during the winter. It's turning into a challenge because my growth is getting crazy.

It seem like I don't get much newgrowth the first 2 months, and then all of a sudden it starts popping up like weeds. Does this happen to anyone else?

Yep, it was that way for me too BB.

It's getting down to the wire for me. Is there anyone else that hasn't relaxed since joining this challenge?

I'm beginning to get bored with my styles, so I'm looking for some different stuff.

My relaxed ends are hanging off my NG like Lil Jon's dreads. I'm determined to finish what I started though. I gotta find me a wig........*LOL*

After 10 weeks my hair started getting super difficult to manage and after 14 weeks I started to get a lot of breakage and shedding. I always used to get my hair done ever 8-10 weeks and will stay at 8 weeks and do protective styles and minimal trimming to accumulate length.

I didn't even notice this challenge, but I guess I am apart of it inadvertantly...I was supposed to get my relaxer 6 weeks ago but I have no $$$, I am approaching week 18. It's going okay so far, I just keep doing my co washes and keeping my hair in protective styles, I have a lot of shedding.
