Pictures!! Update... What happened? Poor texlax job

PICTURES IN ATTACHMENTS! YIKES

UPDATE! I have AIR DRIED PICTURES, THE 1ST, 3RD AND 5TH ARE DRY, THE OTHERS ARE WET.

I AM EVEN MORE UPSET THAN I WAS YESTERDAY. IT LOOKS LIKE A POOR RELAXER JOB. I FEEL LIKE I SHOULDA JUST DONE IT MY DAMN SELF. I'M THANKFUL I HAD MY AUNT TO HELP ME, BUT SOMETIMES A HAIR STYLIST CAN DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD.

I'M HOPING THAT HENNA AND A PROTEIN TREATMENT CAN GET SOME WAVE AT LEAST BACK INTO THERE, BECAUSE I AM SO CLOSE TO JUST CUTTING IT ALL OFF AND STARTING WITH THE ROOTS THAT SHE DIDN'T RELAX. AS YOU CAN SEE.

*SIGH*

Ok, so my plan was to texlax. I coated my hair with Motions silk, like COATED.

I mixed the motions silk in with the relaxer, which I know lessens the strength of the relaxer.

It was on for 12 minutes, and my hair is straight.

I could cry.

I am so upset.

I plan on strething for 10-12 weeks. And it would have been ok if it was texlaxed. But now, it's too straight, and I don't even know what to do.

I'm hoping that some of it will revert. That's what I'm hoping.

I'm going to do henna to try to make the strands appear thicker.

I'm just so upset.

The roots weren't done as well as I wanted them, so those look like I'm 4 weeks post relaxer or something.

Hi,

What strength relaxer did you use? And is your hair more on the coarse or fine side?

It's just my two cents, but whenever I get a touch up, I feel like my hair seems much straighter than it actually is. You should have a better sense by the next time you wash it. Also, if you're still concerned about it being straight, I would recommend a protein treatment when you wash the next time, just to strengthen your hair.

Hope that helps!

Hi, thanks for replying.

I used ORS no-lye normal strength. I'm pretty sure my hair was coarse. But I'm guessing it was more on the fine side. I did a strand test before, and I was thinking that I should have put the silk conditioner on the strand, thinking that I would leave it on for too long.

*sigh*

I'm sitting under the hood right now, with an ORS replenishing pack, and Im hoping that it won't be so straight when I come out. I will definetly do a protein treatment.

Just a bit upset.

But it's hair, and hopefully I can nurse it enough. I just don't remember how to care for relaxed hair, and that's what I'm so worried about.

Ill bet after you wash it a couple more times you'll look texlaxed. Dont worry.
*crossing fingers*

Of course I'll have pictures. I think I miss the thickness of my hair too. To add, my aunt had barely enough relaxer to cover my whole head. LOL, i guess my hair takes to a relaxer more than I thought, and more than the strand test indicated

No-lye relaxers always got my hair bone straight. When I switched to lye, I got texlaxed by accident because the lye didn't straighten it all the way. I stuck with that because I ended up liking it. I'm not sure if switching is an option for you, but I'd bet it's the no-lye that did it.

Thanks!

The back is dead ass straight, but I even saved that part for last, and the front because my hair is a completely different texture, maybe 3C.

The middle is a definite mix of 4A/4B

*sigh*

Oh man!

It looks like I'm due a relaxer!!

You should also try adding oil (or something petroleum based) to your hair and the relaxer creme beforehand. I always coat the entire length of hair from the new growth down with oil and add 1/4 cup of almond oil to the relaxer creme itself. That way your relaxer is gentler, you get processed, but never fully- and your hair is always protected. It also buys you more time to get the relaxer on and processing if you are a self relaxer. I use Mizani no-lye.

I also agree that your hair will look straighter initially and then the pattern will emerge in a few washes. My hair looks bone straight immediately after a relaxer, and after the first wash I can see how well it didn't take. Love it that way. The volume is just amazing.

Give it a week or so. My hair was very straight after my last texlax. After a couple protein and henna treatments some of the curl returned.

LOL, I'm going to keep washing my hair, LOL..

I'm getting use to it, and it's still thick, I guess to an extent, it's just my ends. The weird thing is that my ends always seemed straighter to begin with.

Hmmm... And the funny thing was, I was worried that I'd be way too underprocessed, and here I am with straight hair.. oh my.

Give it a week or so. My hair was very straight after my last texlax. After a couple protein and henna treatments some of the curl returned.

I just have to say you are my hair idol, I absolutely love looking at your pictures. I think I'll do a henna treatment some time this week.

I'm still obsessed with Motions conditioner, and my hair is soo much smoother with cold rinses, WOW.

*crossing fingers for no breakage*

To me your hair looks texlaxed(your whole head).I can't really judge your roots tough.
But how Sista said, just add oil to your relaxer and it won't take as much.I added oil(just plain vegetable oil) and conditioner(suave milk and honey) to mine and I got plenty of curlpattern left even tough I left it on for 40 min - I'am really slow.

I just wanted to say I love the thickness of your hair. I hope my hair is that thick when I straighten it! I think it's slightly shorter than yours, and I am thinking that it might be finer.

What oil do you guys use?

I based my scalp with vaseline, and I have to say that this is the first time with relaxed hair that I haven't had any burns. So I'm thankful for that.

I'm thinking that's why my roots look more unruly than the ends.

I'm learning here, LOL, maybe I'll end up liking it!

Thanks. Your story sounds just like mine... http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showpost.php?p=1739680&postcount=38 ...right down to the 12 minutes and tears. :( Mine gradually recurlled a bit. With only 12 minutes of processing time I kind of feel like it didn't have a choice. :perplexed

The pictures span about 3-4 weeks. During that time I did cut off some of the straighter ends and the first picture is about 70% dry while the others are completely dry, but you get the idea.

Yeah girl, that petroleum base is an excellent shield for the scalp. It might be a little too heavy on the hair though for texlaxing-- that's why I use regular oils. Any oil is fine, though. I've used almond oil, olive oil, hot six oil, you name it. They are heavy enough to slow down the relaxer, but light enough to allow some of your hair to process. I'd only use vaseline on the ends or at least last 2-3 inches.

And, I always make sure to coat the entire length of hair to make sure none of the length comes into contact with chemicals as I'm rinsing out the relaxer. If you don't protect the already texlaxed ends, they'll get straighter each time you get a touch up from that "chemical run." It'll be like getting a corrective relaxer each time. Really, you should protect the length of your hair whether you texlax or not. Texlaxers only have to worry about going straighter. Straight relaxed heads have to worry more about overprocessing since there's not much straighter for them to go.

LOL, you're giving me hope!!! What was your hair type before? I'm wondering if it was because I didn't have much of a curl type from before. I've noticed that it was more on the straighter side to begin with.

When my aunt was going through it, she was asking if I had combed through some parts, but I hadn't. Some are dead straight, like in the back, definitely and the middle is just mure coily/curly/kinky.

Oh well you live and you learn. i've realized how long it takes, so I think I'll have to up the amount of oil I put in my hair, because I can't seem to think how I can get through it faster.

I'm guessing I won't use heat on it, well not much anyway. I've done bantu knots, and I'll see how that turns out tomorrow.

Lovely hair, btw, Lovely, so much thickness!

I am so jealous of the thick set of heads y'all got!! :look:

I'm taking notes for next time, LOL, I guess that makes it beginning of April.

*please revert, please revert* it may look 'straighter' to me, because I've had the nappyness for almost 2 years.

Dang, we could be hair twins. My top/crown is wavy the back is kinky. Both pictures are 11 months post-relaxer and of dry hair.

HAHAHHA

I know who's hair to follow now. I can't remember the other lady that has lovely thick texlaxed hair.

I'm so excited to see what my hair looks like tomorrow now. And I think I'll be able to do this stretching thing, assuming that I was able to deal with my new growth for almost 2 years.

Y'all made me feel so much better!!

Cheers!
@Ella
You still find your hair hard to straighten? Do you blow dry or flat iron?

You got a lot of great advice. I texlax and I just wanted to chime in that my hair also seems to come out really straight after a fresh relaxer (and I use mild strength). I was worried that I had processed too long as well, but my curlies are still there.

ETA: I just took a closer look at your pics, Saraphinelle, and my hair looks a lot like yours when it's wet as well. There's a pic in my Fotki. I think you did good.

And here is the other lady!

I looked at yours before I texlaxed, and showed the picture to my aunt while she was putting the relaxer in...

'I told her that I want my hair just like hers' (pointing to my laptop)

Now that you mention it, it looks like mine when it's wet too. I have some pics in my WnG album (http://public.fotki.com/Serica/hair-to-stay/my-second-year-1/misc/how-i-wash-and-go)

Wow. I'm honored. I don't think I've ever had someone say that they wanted hair like mine. Your hair definitely looks texlaxed to me. Definitely keep us updated on how you decide that you like it. I'm still over here tripping. Wow.

same here. when i do a touch up my hair looks kinda limp and flat. When I wash it a week later it looks thicker and not as straight.
