I ordered mine last week and got it yesterday. I just kinda tossed the box to the side cause September the product junkie in me overdosed, big time!

I was a bit angry at myself after spending so much $$$ on stuff that didn't work.

Needless to say, this morning I used Cathy's moisturizer and felt that I FINALLY found my holy grail (I say this with caution as we all know how products quit working as well as they do at first).

Anyway, besides my hair lovin' it, my two daughters' hair loves it, too. We all have different hair textures (mine:2B/C w/some 3A, my older daughter: 3A and the baby: 3C). So, for me I am really excited to find something that works for all of us!

I also like that the moisturizer not only gives shine to our hair, but makes it silkier and DETANGLED. Our hair ranges from bra strap to waist length and "mommy's" arms get so tired combing out hair that gets so easily tangled.

I just hope this product continues to work cause if it does Cathy will have a customer for life!

Atlwavy locks,

I have a friend whose daughter's hair is 2b or 3c. She may want to discuss with you how you handle your daughter's hair since she has so much trouble with her hair. Could you email me:
[email protected]

I also was going to recommend the moisturizer to her because I think her daughter's hair would love it.

SVT,

It is definitely worth a try. To give you an idea of how good, I actually can continue to type (without making a mess) after putting a whole gopp on my hand to put in my hair. The consistency is awesome. As a 4b, I am not going to lie, it hasn't straightened out my hair that needs a relaxer (at this point), but it definitely allows you to add moisturer to your hair and a bit of shine.

I also received my Ultra Black Hair Lotion Creme Moisturizer and I LOVE IT! It does everything that it claims to do. It's not oily, and it left my hair feeling "luxurious, soft, and smooth." My hair is bouncing and behaving. I am pleased with this product. Thank you Cathy Howse

Did your husband unhand the credit cards and let you order the moisturizer?

No, but I'm gonna get killed. I had the visa, number on a order that I placed so I used the number, Now, I'm all into planning a lie, like it was a back order or something, but I think I better fess up.

Pray for me. It's yall's fault, talking about bouncing and behaving hair, and stuff

Well, I said I was going to wait two weeks, but I couldn't do it!!

I'm running dangerously low on my QP mango butter and I'll need something else soon, so I decided to give this a try. I ordered the 16 oz. size. I hope it's as good as you all have been saying!!
smile.gif

Why am I over here falling over laughing? I was going to tell you to try to get the number then say it was a back order!!!

The things we'll do for our products.

Here are the ingredients:

Purified Water, Olive Oil, 1-Octadecano, Cetrimonium Bromide, di-Panthenol, Allantoin, Lecithin, Dimethicon Copolyol, Methylparaben, Diazolidinyl Urea, Propylparaben, Retinol and Tocopherol.

I was trying to analyze the ingredient list to find out what the key softener is. I remember reading a product consists 80% of the first ingredient in its list. Then the consistency goes something like 10%,5%,negligible from the fourth ingredient onwards. It was something along those lines.

So based on that I get the impression the combination of distilled water with some olive oil is the main contributor to the softness and moisturization people's hair feels after using the UBH moisturizer. Then I know that lecithin is often used as a preservative in homemade products. The 'parabens' are preservatives as well. The panthenol adds a little bit of protein. Then retinol is vitamin A and tocopheryl is Vit E. For sure vit-e is beneficial to hair and scalp when topically applied, but there's only a negligible amount in this product.

Putting all that info together, in my opinion, similar (although probably not identical) results could be gotten from a homemade mix consisting of: distilled water, olive oil, a bit of a high-protein conditioner and a few drops of pure vitamin-e oil. Oh and maybe a drop or two of a "cone" serum because based on it's "con" ending, I get the feeling that's what Dimethicon copolyol is. So there's a possible alternative for those that feel the UBH product is too $$.

I think my problem will be the cost for the quanity. I have only had the 8 ounce bottle for 2 days and it is half way gone. I think if it is to be used as a daily moisturizer it should be cheaper.

On another note, you can buy distilled water from the grocery story for 89 cents a gallon. I bought some to drink yesterday.

I don't believe that's true.

But I think ratio's could be 30 10, 10, 5 or 90 5, 5, etc.
Yes the first ingredient is usually the more dominant.

But receipes I think are very important. If you make cake
milk, eggs, sugar, etc. Measurement makes the difference.

It would be easier I think and cheaper to just look for product on the shelf with similar ingredients. Buy the time you buy all the stuff you listed you are well over $45 easy.

Panthenol provides protein? I thought it was a derivative of Pantothenic Acid, and so was a B Vitamin...?

I have always been confused about this....
ohwell.gif

I only ask because if it's IS B5, and NOT protein, that it provides, then I would think emptying a 500mg capsule of B5 (or using liquid B5 which I *think* exists - not sure) would be the way to handle that aspect of the formulation as opposed to protein.

I also think that Cathy Howse is not in favor of any protein in a moisturizer whatsoever - so I'd be suprised if she added it to hers.

Does anyone remember for sure?

I don't think it hurts to try to make an equivalent though; especially if you have all those ingredients at home already. (not the chemical listing, but oil, serum, conditioner...).

Cathy started out w/ homemade recipes before she standardized her own products. I think its fun to experiment!
smile.gif

If Cathy is like most product sellers, she left out the KEY ingredient. Does anyone not notice that the store brand is NEVER exactly like the name brand? Patent law lets you work backwards but the method of production can't always be duplicated. Also, I am sure that they leave out something to prevent the product from being copied exactly.

Tracy, you're probably right about the Panthenol. That's what I remember but I may have remembered it wrongly.~

*Just did some research*
Tracy you are right
smile.gif
. Here's some interesting info:
Panthenol is the alcohol form of pantothenic acid, more familiar as Vitamin B5. In a living cell, panthenol is converted to pantothenic acid, which then becomes an important part of the compound "Coenzyme A", which is important in cellular metabolism.

In hair, which contains no living cells, it remains as panthenol. Because it could become a vitamin if it were ever to get to a living cell, it is marketed as a "provitamin", even though its effects as a vitamin are never used.

Uses
Because panthenol binds well to hair follicles, and attracts moisture from the air, it is a moisturizing agent used in shampoos and conditioners. It lubricates the hair without feeling greasy. It smoothes roughened hair surfaces, making them shiny and easier to comb. Panthenol does not "nourish" hair. It coats it to make it slippery.

Mindy, you don't believe what's true? In regards to the cost of the ingredients I listed, nothing there is expensive. As someone mentioned distilled water is $0.89 for a gallon, olive oil is about $3.00 for a 12oz bottle, you can get highly concentrated vitamin-e oil at CVS for $3.99 and most people will probably have a panthenol-containing conditioner lying around, so a small amount of that could be added in. What I suggested may not be what everyone would want to do, which is why it's just a suggestion and nothing more.

Heck...I already make the UBH Conditioner...if someone can post a recipe for the moisturizer lotion, I'd make that too.

But I do like to support this sister...I'll continue to buy.

I ordered the creme moisturizer on Sunday and, if it's good to my hair, I'll have no problem shelling out the $$$ for this product. I'll buy the 16 oz. for sure. I've already spent lots experimenting with various moisturizers trying to find the "right" one for my hair - one cost twice as much as the 8 oz bottle (for far, far fewer ounces). I'm thinking the $10-12 for this product might be a steal . . .

I definately think it's worth every penny. However, I'm Miss Kitchen Chemist and I love making new things.

Tracy your right about the protein she basically shuns the use of protein in moisturizing products.

Bronze - I was just talking about the percentages.

Cary the problem I have is not the 10-12 cause that's nothing for a good product I pay that for Keracare BUT the Shipping and Handling is what kills me. I really hope it will become more widely available. I was gonna break down and get the pump top (since I'm already in trouble
grin.gif
) But the $2 pump top was gonna cost $5 in S&H
shocked.gif
So I'd be talking $7 just for a top...

I just hope used sparingly and not globbed, it'll last awhile. I use the dew daily and a small bottle last about 2 mos.

I thought that with the 32 oz. bottle she would throw in the pump for free....I guess I was wrong.

You'll love it. I love the thick consistency.

I ordered two of the 16oz bottles so that I could have my sister try it out. If she doesn't like it, I'll keep it for myself.
