Twisting FOR Growth Challenge Part 4!!!!!!

I typically keep my twists in for 3-4 days and then wear a twistout for 3-4 days. Sometimes for moisture, I spritz my hair with a water mixture. However I get soo much shrinkage from that. What are you ladies doing to prevent some of the shrinkage (if possible)?

The only thing I did once was spritz then clip the twists down so they dried elongated...Wondering if there was another method or just me?

Sometimes I airdry my twists in big cornrows to combat some of the shrinkage.

You can also try bantu knots or a bun.

The cornrows and bantu knots will give a wavy look if you don't mind it.

HTH!

Girl, this was my first henna ever. I've been putting it off for waaaay too long. LOL. I think I'll start henna-ing monthly or bi-monthly.

Let us know how the consultation goes! :grinwink:

Will do...I am trying to go next week.

Once water hits my hair, it shrinks. I've tried several techniques to combat it, but it has only helped a little. So I just deal with the shrinkage.

How is everyone doing? Trying any new products to help twist your hair? Anyone is cowashing with in twist working?

Sorry MIA for a minute because I'm trying to get over a cold. Washed and retwisted my hair Wednesday and wearing twistouts for a dinner party on Sunday. I took pictures of my hair length with t shirt, will try to post this week. I don't know how much length I will gain during this challenge, we shall see. Vitamins challenge and the water challenge, is one thing I have added to my growth plan. I'm shooting for 1 full inch.

This weekend makes 3 weeks in these twists. I might take them down tomorrow if I have time. If not, then next week. I've been washing in twists (only did it 2x) and it's been working fine; I can't do anymore washes though because I'm pretty sure my hair will start meshing.

After wearing twists for two weeks, I washed and conditined in twists Friday night. Afterwards I applied coconut oil and allowed my hair to air dry. Today I lightly spritzed my hair and roots, unraveled my twists, and finger combed to remove tangles and a few knots.

I used Afroveda's shea amla butter creme to smooth the hair and Afroveda's pur gelly to give it definiton before retwisting the same twists.

This took 3.5 hours. I had two knotted tangled like episodes in the nape. I didnt feel confident that the tangles were out so I used a wide tooth comb to smooth the hair in the nape section ( two twist sections). Poor choice: I lost about a tablespoon full of hair.
All in all I lost about 2 tablespoons. I have to remember that I have sheding from 2 solid weeks so I guess thats not too bad.

Should I have finger detangled on newly washed hair?

2 tablespoons of hair isn't a lot to lose after two weeks of no hair removal. I wish to lose that amount of hair, I always lose more and I can't do anything about it.

LOL I'm going to try this for one day, so I can stay in the challenge. What do you think I would have to do achieve this style?

Yeah..2TBSP is definitely not a lot of hair to loose after not washing your hair for 2wks. Many people finger detangle first, then go over their hair with a wide tooth comb/brush. I tend to be heavy handed and rake through my hair, so for me, it's best that I stay away from combs/brushes. I use a technique in the shower that works well for me to detangle my hair.

Yeah..I have thick hair, so I shed a lot.

Have your tried fluffing out your hair like this to see where your starting point is? I have hair envy everytime I see this pic..LOL

Update on me:

Here's a tip if your want your tired twistouts to bounce back.

Example pic of what my hair looked like last night. Old twistouts that need to be washed or retwisted. Was too lazy to wash, so I decided to retwist.

Sectioned off my hair and applied Devacurl Set it Free Moisture Lock to hair and retwisted. Applied my shea cream to ends.

Slept on a satin pillowcase. I've decided not to cover hair w/ a scarf anymore, but just sleep on a satin pillowcase.

This morning, I undid each twist. I didn't fluff or anything. Just untwisted and left it alone. Here are the results:

So my conclusion is, with the right products, any style can be brought back to life...LOL

Pretty twist out, oooop2. Do you get very similar results after sleeping on this style? I'd love to wear a twist out for a couple of days but my hair will flaten and loose the curl pattern.

Sorry ladies, things have been a little hectic lately. I haven't even had time to do my hair in over a week. I am wearing twists pulled back under a half wig. I hope this still fits the challenge requirements. I probably won't get to do my hair until the weekend.

Hi ladies,

Lawd, I'm gonna be in trubble!!! My twists from 3 weeks ago are still in situ!!! Been washing and deep conditioning in them - not had time to redo them. They look presentable but I know detangling will be fun - not!

So, I plan to at least unravel them for a TO this week, detangle, wash and deep condition then retwist. I've a wedding to go to on Saturday and might just wear a messy TO afro with a flower for it. I must apologise again for not being as frequent as I ought to be with my updates, my life too hectic at the moment, but I promise to make more of an effort. Please bear with me, I'll get there!

Hey ladies so I just finished some twist a couple of hours ago. I think I kept those last ones in for 2 wks. I went out of town this wknd and wanted to wear my hair out. I had them out for 3days and it lasted the whole time. Tangles werent as bad as I thought as I didnt sleep with a satin cap one of the nights and half a day ( thats rare). I think it took me 4 1/2 hrs to twist tonight. I planned to take them down this wknd for a work party but I think Im keeping them in for as long as I can.
Havent ventured out and tried anything new yet. I did spray my hair with Oyin handmade conditioner and jojoba oil to rewet my hair while twisting. My hair does feel extra soft!!! Hope all is well. Im ready for some extra growth so I can start pulling my hair back to wear a puff

P.S. Your signature pic looks so cute! Love the hair. It's grown so much.

CHECKIN: So I'm carrying these micro twists into week 4. They'll come down this weekend. Right now, I'm wearing the twists in a braidout to spice things up and to minimize tangles. Here's an example:

My hair is still defined, but just get a little bigger/fluffy the older my t/os are.

I put some small twist in yesterday. Took forever, but they look really good. Fingers crossed for 2-3 weeks.

You can do it!!!! How are they looking?

Still looks great after 4wks.

Update:

Going tomorrow for a consultation at a natural salon. So excited. I've finally decided that it's time to allow someone else to do my hair for awhile. Kept getting cold feet, but I trust that this stylist will do good with my hair!!!

That's is great! I hope it goes well. I've been considering finding a stylist. I haven't been impressed with any naturals' hair that I've seen out here though other than ladies w/nice locs and I don't want to loc. I really hope it works out.

Cosign! Keep us posted.

My consultation went great. Will be getting my hair done by her next Wed. I am so excited. Will be the best $65 I've spent in a long time...LOL

BTW, I found this link for those twisting challenged ;)

$65 is good, especially if she's doing twists. I always get told $90+ and I can't swing that on a regular basis.

CHECK IN:
I wore a twist out for 2 days after a wearing twists for 5 days.

I sectioned my hair into 4 and plaited.

I shampooed in the 4 plaits, applied condish, unraveled, finger combed then used my K cutter to detangle with conditoner on under the shower. I only did this because I haven't combed my hair in 3 weeks.

I got about the width and depth of a 1/2 a thumb. I thought that was great considering the conditions.

Then I did the unthinkable: I combed again after appling my rosemary and sage mix. It just seemed so "nontangled" for some reason. Anyway, i got another "thumb amount" from just part sections- my 4b crown area and a little from the front.

I looked at the hairs in my comb and said " I 've got to stop using that comb!"

Hello ladies!

Well, finally I have a bit of an update to post... took out my nearly 4 week old twists yesterday for a twist-out (which i think I'll probably wear most of this week). Here are a few pics of the twists and the resulting TO - not very good ones, but just an idea. I should go back to taking pics of my hair:
