Thanks :)

Unfortunately, my hair gets matted/tangled fast, so I can't wash my hair and leave in the same twist. So if water hits my head, I'm redoing my twist. Hence why I tend to prefer the med-large twist. They don't take as long to redo.

When I wear my mini, I just spritz but never wash. They last about 10 days -2wks.

I would love to be added!

ETA: Ok, I just saw that no more participants will be added  oh well, good luck! I'll be joining you all unofficially:yep:

Yay! Part 4 has begun! I'd like to give this a shot. My starting pic is in my siggy. I'm currently sporting twists. I'll alternate between that, flat twists and twistouts.

Reggie:

co-wash 2x/wk
henna 1x/mo
dc 2-3x/mo
moisturize daily

Sorry I missed this one.

You guys have had great progress. I'm going to do this on the sidelines since no more participants.

I'm also in the half-wig challenge and the baggy challenge so twisting also hopefully will help me to retain length.

Bablou, your hair has gotten so long!

Another shot of the micro twists.

I wish I had the patience and your thickness...I also feel like my hair would scream if I kept my twists in for this long.

One more time...I LOVE YOUR HAIR :yep:

Ohhhh-weeee!!!! Can't wait to see everyone's progress during this challenge .

My current length is in the last thread...I'm still in the process of tweaking my reggie, so I'll post what it is this weekend. HHG everyone!

I will be posting pictures this week-end.

New regime
Twists for 5 days
Twistouts for 2 days
Retwist
Wash with shampoo
Condition
Rinse
Take out one twist remove shedded hair
Retwist and go to next twist

I tried something new yesterday. I'm very gray because I started at 17 or 18 and I'm in my forties now. I have to henna the front often - every 3 weeks so I decided to henna with my twists in.

I did the two step process, put in the henna left it on for one hour, rinsed, and then applyed the indigo henna for 2 hours. It covered most of my gray, yeah! This weekend for the Chicago meet-up, I'm sporting blown-out twistouts for one day. Promise I will take pictures of my hair Sunday.

I like your regime...And I am happy henna is working for you. I haven't used indigo yet, but I properly will as more grey hairs start appearing.

Can't wait to see pics!!!

I am so ready to take my hair out. I can't go longer than three weeks at a time with my twist. I don't know if I want to redo them as I go or just take them out, wash, and put some new ones in.

Take them out, there is nothing like fresh twists. Three weeks is long enough.

I tend to take out and do over. But I know Nonie (not in challenge, but a fellow twistie), just redos hers and her twist look nice. My hair just gets matted and frizzy easily, so I just prefer that free look.

I wish my twist could last 3wks. I'm good if it makes it to 2...LOL

So how is everyone doing?

I plan on twisting up this weekend, but wanted to share my oil-rinse experience with you guys...LOL

Well yesterday (Friday), I decided to do an oil rinse. I typically HATE oil rinses b/c I tend to end up feeling all greasy and my hair feels weighted down. But after seeing someone's fotki pics, I decided to try it once again.

This is my shea butter mix I'm always referring to.

My approx mix is:

3 TBSP Unrefined Shea Butter (softened...NOT melted)
1 TBSP coconut oil. I don't melt, but just scrap and add to butter.
1 TBSP castor oil
1 TBSP EVOO

I used the tip of a pointed comb to whip it together. Store in a container and place in a cool area.

This is about how much I use per chunky twist or t/o hair is doing a wash n go ponytail.

IMG_7417.jpg

Hair with Giovanni, shea mix, and ECO gel along the edges.

Applied a scarf to smooth down edges.

After about 30min, I removed scarf. All done!!!

Overall, I am still not crazy about oil rinses. I obviously didn't remove all of the oil, so oil hair started drying, neck started feeling oily. And today, I didn't notice any extra softness in my strands. So, I am going to can the oil rinses on my hair.

But...my youngest daughter have really thick hair with fine strands that tangles EASILY. I sometimes CRINGE when I have to do her hair. Well, I decided to do the oil rinse on her and OMG, it was like a dream. NO tangles. No crying. Got through all the kinks with ease. So this will be part of her regime.

HTHs someone :)

ooop, your hair is beautiful!

the three strand twists seem like they would be great for children since they are so wild. ♥

^^^ Thanks for sharing. Your DD has beautiful hair and so do you.

Yesterday I was a bit disappointed after I washed and detangled. I had about 2-3 tablespoons of tightly packed shedded hair. Here is what I did to detangle:

1. Slather EVCO on my hair immediately after rinsing conditioner in cold water to seal in moisture. I dont use a towel. I put the EVCO on at the sink and just squeeze out excess water. After about 2 minues, the oil absorbs the water and no dripping.
2. Spray KCC Knot Today Detangler. I mix 1 tablespoon of KT with 6 oz of water.
3. Wait 2-3 minutes for both to "melt" into my hair
4. Begin combing end to root in sections and plait. I use a K-cutter first, then a large tooth comb.

For twists, I air dry over night. My hair has body when I twist on dry hair.
I then begin to start by unplaiting sections using my K-cutter, large tooth comb, applying shea amla and whipped gelly, use a fine tooth comb to distribute product then twist.

I'm going to try nonies wash and condition in twist to avoid detangling on next week.

Yall have some juicy twists up in here. I wanted to join, then realized that there will be no more participants added, so I will participate from the outside, but I will lurk in here often.

Seems like you are combing your hair a lot. Before using the K-cutter, do you ever try to detangling just with your hands? I'm not a big fan of really combing my wet hair. Seems like I lose way too much hair in the process.

And since you have already combed through your hair during the detangle process, why do you need to comb it again for the twisting process?

Oooop, your and your daughter's hair are SIMPLY FABULOUS!

This is what I've been doing for a while and it really works. Let us know how it works for you.

Wow oooop2, your daughter's twists look great. Whenever I twist my hair, they never come out as plump as that?! About how much hair are you using for each twists? Maybe I'm just grabbing too little? *shrugs*

Thanks....

Both myself and my girls all have different textures, so I have to do different things for each head.

My oldest daughters hair does best when in small twist and can literally last 3wks:

If I do small twist of my youngest daughter, it gets matted easily and undoing is a nightmare. So I do hers larger and redo every 7 days. PLanning on getting her hair braided to see how long that will last:

I should try detangling with my hands first. I comb again for the twisting because I want to be confident that I dont twist tangled hair thus leading to a tangled mess of a wash. I also I think I do it out of habit from my childhood braiding experiences. I'm still learning...

This was my hair for the Chicago meet-up yesterday. I wore twist outs for one day and retwisted last night and I will keep it twisted for one week and shampoo on Friday. More pictures coming this evening.

Oooop2, the kids hair look beautiful.

Unfortunately, I had to cut one of my twist out due to detangling. I tried to do the three strand twist, but my roots were to fluffy. I couldn't get it right. Right now I am wear it as a twist out. I'll probably put in some medium size twist in later on this week.

Soooo, the three strand twist thing didn't work out very well :wallbash: I went back to my usual twists, which love me very much, lol. I washed, and used the Qhemet Detangling Ghee for the first time. I must say, I think it will become a staple. Here are some pics from this weekend. The first one was a twist out I did on Friday...the second are the set of twists I did this afternoon.

While I was doing my twists this afternoon, I was kind of thinking about how long I spend on my hair on wash days. All in all, deep condition until the last twist being twisted, I spent 4.5 hours. I was a little salty about it, lol. But then I remembered the amount of time I would spend in a salon getting my hair washed and set...all that time spent under a dryer and then in a chair getting blown out. It was even more time than what I spent today! So no more complaining from me...I gotta bring it back sometimes

Oooop, another great post! And Laurend, beautiful twist out!

ooop, your whole family just has beautiful hair huh? love those twisties!

productjunkie814, what is the consistency of the detangling ghee? ♥

hey vain jane. the detangling ghee is actually hard which suprised me. I had to scrape it and rub it between my palms for a few seconds to distribute it evenly. It smells like straight chocolate - when I first opened the jar I had to go in my fridge and eat a mini snickers to get over the craving, lol.

oh good lawd, productjunkie. you and that hair. i just love it soo much!! the color, the thickness, the shine....you're making me want to rip out this sew-in weave, lol
