Twisting FOR Growth Challenge Part 4!!!!!!

I should try detangling with my hands first. I comb again for the twisting because I want to be confident that I dont twist tangled hair thus leading to a tangled mess of a wash. I also I think I do it out of habit from my childhood braiding experiences. I'm still learning...

Trust that we've all been there. What lead me to these hair boards was the fact that during my weekly washing process, I was racking out baseball size hairball out of my head. I was would wash with shampoo, slap on some condish for like 1 min, rinse that out, then rack through my hair thinking I was really doing something. It finally hit me that losing all this hair couldn't be normal so I started to do some research. Now I try to avoid using combs whenever possible.

This was my hair for the Chicago meet-up yesterday. I wore twist outs for one day and retwisted last night and I will keep it twisted for one week and shampoo on Friday. More pictures coming this evening.

Beautiful pic. Love your twistouts. What products did you apply to achieve this look?

Oooop2, the kids hair look beautiful.

Unfortunately, I had to cut one of my twist out due to detangling. I tried to do the three strand twist, but my roots were to fluffy. I couldn't get it right. Right now I am wear it as a twist out. I'll probably put in some medium size twist in later on this week.

Yeah...I found the 3-stranded twist to be too involved. So I only attempted 1x. Sorry you had to cut 1 of your twist out. Did you have to cut a lot?

Soooo, the three strand twist thing didn't work out very well :wallbash: I went back to my usual twists, which love me very much, lol. I washed, and used the Qhemet Detangling Ghee for the first time. I must say, I think it will become a staple. Here are some pics from this weekend. The first one was a twist out I did on Friday...the second are the set of twists I did this afternoon.

While I was doing my twists this afternoon, I was kind of thinking about how long I spend on my hair on wash days. All in all, deep condition until the last twist being twisted, I spent 4.5 hours. I was a little salty about it, lol. But then I remembered the amount of time I would spend in a salon getting my hair washed and set...all that time spent under a dryer and then in a chair getting blown out. It was even more time than what I spent today! So no more complaining from me...I gotta bring it back sometimes

Oooop, another great post! And Laurend, beautiful twist out!

You look FABULOUS with you twistouts. And I am loving the definition of your twist. What products did you use this time to twist them?

I am so relate to you on the time it takes to twist. Yesterday after my girls came home from swimming, I washed their hair, did an oil rinse and twisted (in the pics noted in my last post). Well I started to process at 1pm. I didn't get done with both heads til 6:30pm. Part of me really wants to visit a natural salon in my area and have the lady that was highly recommended do their hair. But at the same time, that's 5.5hrs of bonding that I have with my girls. Do I really want to give it up?? Trying to tell myself we can bond in other ways..LOL

ooop, your whole family just has beautiful hair huh? love those twisties!

Oh vain....I have come a LONG WAY. I once read a person say sometimes she cries looking back at old pics of her daughters head. I CRINGE everytime I see this pic:

My oldest daughters head always looked a HOT MESS before I found out about these hair care sites....

Aha! Found the new thread!!!

You all have such beautiful, thick hair! Mine's all wispy and my edges they never grow much, and what grows never seems to retain, sigh. Still striving though. Your girls' hair Ooop - fab! Loo, brave girl, with those tiny twists! PJ, Laurend, Bablou, and everyone else - good work! I'm envious of everyone's hair!

Okay ladies, I must apologise I'm late - working on a paper due in Thursday, but I'll post some starting pics soon.... Currently wearing twists put in 8 days ago, which I'll redo this coming weekend after this assignment's turned in.

MY hair is doing ok. I need to find a new moisturizer. It is getting cold and what i was using isn't cutting it. I tried Qhemets AOHC but my hair isn't feeling it. My hair feels soft but not moisturized afterwards.

oh good lawd, productjunkie. you and that hair. i just love it soo much!! the color, the thickness, the shine....you're making me want to rip out this sew-in weave, lol

Don't go ripping sew-ins Rocky...we want growth in this thread, lol:grin:

I used the leave-in Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee and then followed up with the Honey Balm. My hair is still super juicy a day later. Loves it. We'll see how my hair holds up in the Florida heat and humidity this week. I remember your post with the twist out in Orlando.

Lala, what is the AOHC? Do you think it's not thick enough?

AOHC- Amla and Olive Heavy Cream. It actually is very thick, maybe too thick for my hair. I find that it just kind of lays on top more so than it moisturizes. I have started using it to seal in moisture instead.

OOOOp2 what is this product? Did you twist with this? I twisted my hair dry with Ecostyler holding gel(Olive oil).

OOOOP2 I like that mix! Is that a secret recipe because I would like to make some of that for myself.

LOL...Nope no secret.

My approx mix is:

3 TBSP Unrefined Shea Butter (softened...NOT melted)
1 TBSP coconut oil. I don't melt, but just scrap and add to butter.
1 TBSP castor oil
1 TBSP EVOO

I used the tip of a pointed comb to whip it together. Store in a container and place in a cool area.

Thanks I will try to make some next week and that saves a lot of money on buying twisting butters and gels.

Going out to dinner tonight and I will be wearing twist-outs. I know it will be a lot of work but I will retwist when I come home tonight. I only had one more day of wearing a free hairstyle because I wore it out Saturday.

CHECKIN: Wrapping up week 2 in micro-twists. I'll do my 2nd (and final) wash this weekend. Will probably take down the twists after week 3.

Girl..I am so impressed that you can wash your twist. Whenever I do, it's a frizzy tangled up mess...Thankful I can at least spritz it daily.

For those of you that bobby pin or clip up your twist, what do you do to prevent it from pulling in your hair? Everytime I pin my twist up, that area becomes to sensitive, that I end up just taking the pins out.

Bumping & Subscribing. I'm twisted again, but am still working on a Photoworthy look for my new protective style

I've changed my regimen.

1. wash in twists . add shampoo to scalp only and rinse.
2. condition in twists. rinse. add my spray version of knot today.
3. finger comb each twist. use wide tooth comb only as needed ( hopefully not) add shea amla buttercreme and pur gelly to retwist each twist.
4. wear twists in updo for 2 weeks at a time before retwisting.

Spray distilled water and seal with jojoba daily for shine and moisture.

I'm trying this with my 4yo dd too.

I will keep you updated.

I've been meaning to post more pics of the micro twists:

Here's after wash #1. Gotta love shrinkage I guess. Lol. More pics in the fotki:

I'll post some after wash #2 later. I did a henna treatment as well.

No more washing for the rest of my time in these twists. Don't want to risk locking.

I use bobby pins with the "balls "on the end.

Yep..Those are the ones I use.

Well, I just put in a set of medium twist. I plan to keep them in for 2 weeks.

Are you wearing them up in a bun or loose? I was trying to make mine last for at least 10 days, but today to take them out today (after 7 days).

I do this too, but I also dip the ends in castor oil, then pin them in. It works for me....

I will try dipping the ends in oil.

Your mini twist look nice. Envious that you can wash your twist and they still look good. How often do you henna?

Update on me:

Took out week old twist. Planning on DCing w/ a egg, mayo, evoo blend. Will probably style in a big twist updo. Doing to Forever 21 this week to get some cute el-cheapo accessories.

I've also decided that after 4yrs of caring for 4 heads, I'm over doing my own hair for awhile and will be consulting with a natural stylist either this week/next week.

^^I was wearing them loose, but they are getting really frizzy. I have been working out and it is not helping. I think I will either re-do the front or some kind of up do.

Girl, this was my first henna ever. I've been putting it off for waaaay too long. LOL. I think I'll start henna-ing monthly or bi-monthly.

Let us know how the consultation goes! :grinwink:

I typically keep my twists in for 3-4 days and then wear a twistout for 3-4 days. Sometimes for moisture, I spritz my hair with a water mixture. However I get soo much shrinkage from that. What are you ladies doing to prevent some of the shrinkage (if possible)?

The only thing I did once was spritz then clip the twists down so they dried elongated...Wondering if there was another method or just me?
