Okay Ladies! I have about a 2inch Twa I believe and this Sun Is Murdering My Twa, I haven't ordered any hair products as of yet, but I have used some shea butter and that don't work, it makes my hair hard and I only used a smidget, I need something to hold me over until I order my QB products, but even when I do I still want to protect it from this hot sun until it is long enough to cover my ends, my ends are getting fried.

I have been wearing Hair Scarves (satin) but my head gets hot and I start to break out around my forehead. I hate spritzing water every hour on the hour but I won't need to once I get my QB products or Oyinhandmade, But What can we do to protect our Twas from the Sun? Last Time I had a Twa it was winter time and my hair does great in the winter:lol: I know it probably ain't much I can do but it don't hurt to ask.

Thanks Ladies

Well when i need extra moisture i baggy my head at night with castor oil water and scurl...so when i take off the baggy in the morning my hair feels really good and moisturized and ready to take on the harsh michigan weather...now if i feel like the weather is too harsh i baggy and put on a wig or handscraf to protect it for the day. If i'm not bagging i cw every morning with pantene hydrating curls...wash it out, towel off and put in olive oil which usually holds me all day til night time, than i moisturize before i put on my scraf

i know there are products that have spf50 in it, and putting a moisturizer on and sealing with some oil might help...just add moisture whenever ur hair starts crying for it...once u find the right product and regimen that won't be much...HTH

Thanks Alot, since I done the Henna/Indigo the Lemon Juice has wrecked my hair and it is taking forever to get that softness back and it is really making me angry but I am gonna stick through it and deal with it.

Baggying is a good idea. Do you use conditioners that contain sunscreen? This is also necessary & helpful.

What about a rosewater spritz or moisture mix in a miniature bottle? You could keep it in your handbag and spritz it on throughout the day.

The SPF thing sounds good...I know NTM silk touch leave-in has UV protection which will help the hair. Also making sure that you are using a good moisturizer and then sealing the hair with a good oil or other sealant will help

I haven't been able to actually "protect" my TWA from the sun, but I just make sure that I take the extra steps needed to keep my hair well moisturized. I co-wash daily, and moisturize mid-day/evening just about everyday to keep my hair moisturized. To moisturize, I just spritz my hair with water and lightly apply/scrunch QB Alma & Olive Heavy Cream into my hair. Works like a charm.

I'm natural too and I started with about 1/2 inch of hair a little over a year ago. Smooth and shine curl activator gel was my saving grace and it's cheap too. Leave in a smidge of your favorite conditioner and use some smooth and shine. It will dry too.

If I could get it to dry now, I'd still be using it.

ETA: Edible aloe vera gel and flax seed gel are also excellent moisturizers. I add aloe vera gel to my cowashes and favor products that have aloe vera as a major ingredient.

Edible aloe vera gel and flax seed gel ( made by boiling flaxseeds in water) are excellent moisturizers as well.

I have found a regimen that is working for me. 2xs a week I overnight condition my hair with Thai Kitchen Coconut Milk. Every morning I CW and apply daily doctor(the bomb) and I apply a scarf for style.

N.B I have about 2ins with shrinkage but it feels wonderful. On weekends I deep condition with whatever conditioner I grab from my PJ ified shelf.

Ahhh, you're in Texas huh? Must be nice and warm there, mmmmmm. I'm in Michigan where it's windy, wet and cold.

I agree with sealing your moisturizer in with castor oil. At least until you get you Qhem products. Using something with SPF in it is also a good idea along with the baggy method.

Okay Thanks Ladies! I will look for that spf in hair products, I know that QB heavy cream is great but I won't be able to order until Monday and I know it takes a good week to get it, but I am gonna order from curlicious.com so I can get it faster. But I know alot of us with Twa's have that Sun problem LOL. I just started using Aussie Moist Conditioner and it is great, I guess Suave isn't working like it use to, I really Liked the Smell but it didn't make my hair as soft anymore.

Thank You so much Ladies!!

When I had my twa I used Nexus Humectress conditioner as a hairdress to soften the hair after wash & conditioning, spirtz w/S Curl texturizer moisturizer in the blue and grey bottle then appy Paul Mitchell Sculpting Gel for curl definition, . The S Curl in the white & blue bottle breaks me out and rubs off.

you've gotten some great advice! but don't give up on shea butter just yet. it has a natural uv protectant & unlike most oils/butters has moisturising properties (there's always an exception to every rule:lol:). have you tried whipping your shea. it will be lighter easier to apply, or letting it melt completely before applying to wet/moistened hair.

Kayluv twa is Teenie Weenie Afro. Thanks Ladies, I won't give up on shea butter I know it will probably work when my hair gets longer, but i still try to use it anyway I can, I have used it on freshely washed hair and I didn't use that much, just a little and my hair was so soft but after a few hours it went hard, so that is why I like to use QB for now,

Firecracker Thank you, But I have tried S'curl and it didn't work BUT I haven't tried the one in the Blue and grey bottle I will look into that when I go to the store, because the blue and white one also broke me out so I jus never looked at it again. But I will try it.

When I had a 2 inch TWA (which was during the summer/fall of 2005), I never had a problem with the sun frying my hair. My hair never liked shea butter either. When my hair was that length, all I did was co-wash daily and would sometimes spray a little bit of S-Curl Activator Moisturizer and sometimes I applied a little bit of jojoba oil to my hair. Other times, I would just water rinse my hair. My hair stayed soft during the summer/fall and in the sun. I don't see why you would need to wear a scarf over your head when you're in the sun...that would make you hot...are you out in the sun for long periods of time or something? If so, just avoid prolonged sun exposure so you don't have to wear a scarf. And avoid greasy/heavy/oily products on your hair while in the sun. HTH!

Thanks Poohbear! I am gonna look into this S-curl thing again, I really don't want to spend too much money on hair products right now since I like to CW Daily, but I will do that and I am sure it would work, & Yes my head gets hot with a scarf, I would do it because when I was in the sun my hair would just get so darn dry and hard, and I had used shea butter but that don't work and I just need to get that through my head LOL!!!

Well I am outside alot lately but I bought me some nice sun hats today, But I had a scarf on Today while taking my Daughter to the Doctor and I put a scarf on because I knew by the time we got there my hair would be hard and dry & my Husband said "You talk all that stuff about your hair and you come here with a scarf on" I felt teeny LOL!! but it was the Truth.

Thanks Ladies!
