Trimming

This is a very personal decision that only you can and SHOULD decide on.

1. When your ends are damaged/see through or split. There is nothing that really can be done for see thru ends except to chop them off to give the rest of the hair that fuller appearance.

2. When you want to basically just even up your hair, or give it a good trim so it looks and feel healthy and looks more voluminous.

If I've missed out any other reasons please add them for me ladies. My heads a lil /images/graemlins/drunk.gif right now.

Hi Carmelle25,

For years I thought I had to trim every 6-8 weeks. The hairdresser would always cut off as much hair as I gained in growth. It was depressing. Now I dust my ends for any split ends I see. I only trim about 3 times a year. I have gained more length this way which has made me happy. I now feel like I'm getting somewhere! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I personally Have been dusting the ends for 3 months now... the ends are just barely taken off and the length remains. It is doing just fine. The ends stay shiny looking and thick.

I am also considering "trimming" my hair which is a major decision for me. I havent trimmed my hair in a year. But now I noticed that my ends look really dry, I dont know if it just maybe the cold weather. I was always under the impresion hat if you trim your hair, your will grow. But I beleive hat is not true, because hair grows regardless. I think trimming is for if you want your hair to be even. But if your hair is damaged then you definitey need to cut off all the dead eds. My hair isn't damaged, so maybe I can do without a trim. How many people on here actually trim there hair and y?

I trim my ends about twice a year. Even then I only take off about a half inch at a time. I still hate doing it but for me I realized that trimming removed any really old ends that I was having a hard time managing and stopped the "fraying" I seem to experience before it negatively affected the rest of the length of my hair. My ends also look better when I trim them. It took a lot of trial and error - from no trims at all to trims every 8 weeks faithfully to arrive at what is for me, a happy medium.

I agree it is a personal decision and may require some experimenting to get a handle on. I know folks who never trim with no adverse effects and I also know many women with lovely hair who trim religiously with every relaxer. I do find that using my relaxers as a gauge - and only trimming WITH one - perhaps skipping one or two relaxers on occasion (usually in the summer months) is the best solution for my hair.

I was trimming my hair every six to eight weeks and I have no idea why, because I never have split ends. I am going to hold out until I notice that it is becoming uneven. Its been 4 monts so far.

Hi Supergirl, /images/graemlins/wave.gif

When I dust, I just look at the ends of my hair, and any splitting ends I see, I snip off, but just the very tip. I don't want to lose length anymore. So far, so good. Around May, I'll get my friend or my mom to trim 1/2 inch, but not more. /images/graemlins/wave.gif
