I transitioned by pressing/flat ironing my hair, i gradually trimmed my hair but I almost wish I'd bc'd because I feel like i would have more hair by now due to the fact that I got way too much of my hair trimmed off in the process. Now I'm 100% natural and I kinda feel like i'm just starting out.
I have generally done a little of everything. When I was at work (I'm a prof) I was wearing my hair in two french braids pinned up in the back. I generally would flat iron once a month and then I would wear a bun.
This summer I have been practicing braidouts/twistouts and assorted afro puffs from those styles.
I am currently 12 months post, but I plan to transition over 2 years at least, by God's grace. I'm currently doing a blog series on long-term transitioners onmy website.
It's called:For the Long Haul and there are already two interviews up with more in the works. This is a good source of ideas and inspiration for me and others. HTHs!
Oh, and I co-wash, steam and I am using extensions as I feel like it....no heat for me. I'm too scared of heat damage and setbacks. I need to be Waist-length by end of 2010, by God's grace.
I'm about 8.5 months post as of now. During the summer and also when I had less growth I was wet bunning constantly which was great because it was warm. Now I'm under a half wig and probably will be until February or March sometime. March will make me 12 months post. Next summer I'll probably be doing a lot of twist-outs and braid-outs until I'm ready to chop.
