Thyroid problems and hair growth

Ladies the front of my hair is soooo bad with bald spots but the back is really heathy. Now since I will being having my thyroid removed I know it will get worse:sad: I have been using minoval for the past month and half but since my issues are internal I am not sure it is working.

Here are some pics I added so you ladies can see how bad it is

This is the back which has gotten a lot thicker since I cut it off and started over

Hugs to you mzsophisticated26 I experienced the patches although they weren't as severe. Once I stopped relaxing the spots began to slowly fill back in. And the texture completely changed as well. Please keep us updated and good luck on my thyroidectomy. Oh, theres a really great closed group on fb, I get tons of support from them. Maybe check them out, there's no judgement and thats really important.

Quick question, have any of yall heard that soy products and goitrogen(sp) high veggies are bad for people with thyroid problems. I have stopped and/or limited my intake of soy products (& def notice a difference in my mental health and fatigue) but the veggies are kinda difficult for me to avoid. I primarily eat a raw/vegetarian lifestyle and have recently been adding kale to my diet. I read that veggies like kale are suppose to be not good for someone with a slow thyroid.

Anyone have any issues with goitrogen(sp) veggies?

pelohello soy in any form is the devil for fast or slow thryoid issues. Also diet products with saccharin. I am still learning howmto make lifestyle changes to help with my thyroid.

@mzsophisticated26, (((((HUGS))))). Did the doctors say that once the thyroid is removed your hair will grow back/thicken?

I have not really talked about my hair with my Endo but I don't think it will since I am also anemic and then I will be on a synthetic meds for my thyroid. I have always had fine hair/temples but over the last 5 years or so these bald spots are getting bigger.

Wenbev thanks, can you PM me the name of the facebook group. I will be having my surgery in another month and will definitely update.

I just pmd you. Also talk to a dermatologist or trichologist (sp) there may be something that can be dne to help out with the thinning.

Hello ladies! I had a complete thyroidectomy in 2009. I had multiple goiters and nodules that were growing rapidly so I had to have the whole thing removed. I have been on levothyroxine since then. Before the surgery, I could not figure out why I would touch or comb my hair and it was just falling out in clumps. Although I had bsl hair, it was thin and fragile. The lady who did my hair for years took very good care of it so although I was losing a lot of hair, it was growing just as quickly. Now that I take care of it on my own, I am almost fully natural (which helps with my naturally thin hair) and my hair does not fall out as much. Most of it is eating properly and taking the proper care for your hair. Good luck to all of you dealing with thyroid issues! It has been a daily struggle but it gets easier

Hi ladies,

I am in the same boat as you. Diagnosed in 2007. I have a goiter and was never given medicine until this year!! I feel like me with amour!! I never lost hair but the depresion was bad. I never knew that the thryoid regulated so many thing. A website that helped was stop the thyroid madness...
