This may be mean but...

i don't think it's mean or snobbish. i think being on lhcf sometimes means getting educated and challenging your perceptions regarding hair. before lhcf, apl would have seemed like the holy grail to me. however, i see people here achieving it all the time. i don't see it in real life often but i know if people had better knowledge of how to handle hair, they would have apl length hair too.

i think people get more exposed to black women with long hair on here, so seeing black women irl with hair beyond SL is no longer a novelty. so yeah, you do see someone irl with APL hair and whilst others may be fawning over that, you think, "it's just apl". that doesn't mean apl is something to be scoffed at but it's not necessarily something that's miraculous.

LHCF has me staring at hair like I have some sort of fetish...

Most of the time I am just sad because I see so many unhealthy heads of hair no matter what the ethnicity. I think it is such a shame that the beauty industry has got womens heads tied up in knots about what it really takes to have beautiful, healthy hair.

I also think a lot about wowing people when my hair gets long. I would be lying if I said that I haven't seen a lady with "long" SL and thought "You think your bad but just wait until I reach my hair goals." I feel like people think that something is wrong with me cause I love hair so much. I think that they really won't take me seriously to they see me swangin'

You ladies make me want to cry

I sincerely believe that I'm doing all the right things to make my hair healthy, but most of the time it doesn't look that way simply because I heavily moiturize while stretching for 12+ weeks with tons of new growth beneath. My hair is kept in a pony or bun and is as straight as I can manage to get it.

However, when I DO texlax, my hair turns out gorgeous, but that only lasts so long because I must co-wash, dc and moisturize each week. On the other hand, one of my co-worker's who I KNOW is jealous of the length of my hair always makes it a point to come into my office and show off her bouncy tresses while giving me the number to her stylist. I HATE HER FOR THIS!!

But now I'm wondering if everyone is looking at me and thinking I don't take care of my hair the way you ladies look at those people you see???

Don't let people get you down. They're gonna think what they will, but as long as you know you're doing your best...that's all that matters! You'll get the hair YOU are meant to have w/ patience and smart work/tools. Who cares if your hair meets w/ someone else's approval, esp. a stranger's?

After all, what works for one person might not for another, so NOBODY has ALL the answers as to why their hair does one thing and someone else's does another. Some times people forget that they dislike being so harshly judged when they do it to others...it's human.

Ummmm, yea. I analyze erryone's hair. My SO know how to strike up a convo that will keep me interested:grin: Every girl who walks past he'll say here hair is longer than yours and I'm not :ohwell: or is that her hair and I go:yawn: Then I catch on to him:lachen:he's just joshing me, making fun of me:rolleyes: but I do look at ladies and men hair in a different light now. I look at how healthy their hair is now and then the length:look:

Funny, for me it is the opposite. My mother has WL hair, and I never appreciated it before, I even took it for granted. Now since being on this board, I am asking her for advice on my hair, and admiring it(her hair) a little bit more than I used to.:look:

First of all, my hair is kept in a bun 24/7 and I have a ton of ng right now:perplexed but I know my hair is healthy underneath that bun and besides I know what my intentions are for looking a HAM at times:lachen:I caught alot of flack at a previous job because my boss "thought" I should wear my hair professionally but I waltzed in that joint erryday with a bun:yawn: WHAT???? I don't care what anyone thinks of my hair because when I do wear it down. It be on and popping. Don't worry about your co worker, keep doing you and then soon she'll be asking you for YOUR stylist number and then you can politely hand her your celly number:grin:

Thank you ladies!

I guess I really shouldn't care.... I have analyzed and envied other people's hair also. By the same token, I do have enough confidence and patience to accept her and possibly others being mean. Because right now I'm on a mission. But once I reach thick/full and healthy bsl, I plan on wearing it down more often and showing off :yep:.

You aren't mean. It's just that when a person's hair is damaged and has no hopes of growing past a certain length, all lengths longer than what they can attain seem long. But when you start taking better care of your hair and realize that it can actually grow with the best of them, then lengths that you thougth were super-long (like APL or BSL) seem attainable now, so it doesn't seem as long anymore.

That's not mean.

This board has made me even more of a hair snob than I already was. I didn't really think that was possible.:lachen:

LMAO!

Cosign.

A 'hair snob' and a 'product snob' as well. I'm famous for being like, "Oh--I don't put that on MY hair..." or "Are those natural ingredients? Ugh...it's full of petroleum!"

Which launches into a 20 minute 'hair tangent'.

But I've never considered APL length hair to be 'long'.

Ppl consider my hair to be long, IRL.
I'm just like, "It's only SL, ya'll...."

I'm the opposite of hair snob because I'll look at some female's hair and swear it's longer than mine or get upset because theirs is dyed a nice color but I'm too scared to do my own.

Total snob here.

Let someone even give me a look like that ish ain't hers....and i will do a yt girl flip AND run my fingers s-l-o-w-l-y down the length of my now BSL hair for added effect.

Leave 'em drooling.
Hilarious!! Love it!

And no, I don't think we're calling anyone out. I know I wasn't. I didn't read a post that made me think that. Don't feel bad girl!!! You rock what you got! Tell jealous girl to kick rocks!

I know.

I see some women that I know of that I used to be like wow. Since joining this forum, I look at people like girl you aint seen nuthin. Especially here, because some of these women ack like they are made of gold...(not trying to be mean), but you can tell the ones that put themselves above everybody else.

ITA. I have become such a hair snob! There are just too many beautiful heads of hair on LHCF and nothing seems to compare to them in "real life".

Yes, but I mainly feel like that about myself. :lachen:

I've been APL quite a few times before, so it's really nothing new to me. But when I made APL again, I was happy, but not truly happy. I'll be truly happy when I'm BSL. My hair looks long depending on how I style it, but I'll be good when the front of my hair is up to the crack in my breastline. And I'll be doing flips when my hair is BSL, healthy, and no protein overload. That is my hair goal.

I know we may have just met, but you way past APL boo.....keep growing to BSL let us barley APL people enjoy our brief moment of fame...(We trying to catch up to you).

Touche!! Keep using that MT, sweetheart and you'll do just fine!! You're the second person who said I'm past APL so I'm just flabbergasted!! :wow::blowkiss: I've been through so much with my hair. It'll happen. If I can grow hair, with my slow-growing, fine hair, then anyone can! :yep::kiss:

Looks like I'm Number 3 then. :lachen: You've been there done that APL thing. :lachen:

Girl, don't let it get you down! Being on the hair boards makes most of us pay a lot more attention to hair in general. For the good, and for the bad. One thing I can say that I've learned from being a member here is humility. Once you start doing better, its easy to see where others are still going wrong. I don't let myself get on a high horse though because I can clearly remember when that girl everyone had words for was me.

And really, you are hardly ever out of the woods b/c haircare is a process man. You will always have your on days and your off days. All it takes is one bad cut, color, or relaxer to be right back at square one.

And this is just hair. I'm sure there are fashion forums or make up forums that would have a field day with me. :lachen: Can't please 'em all. All you can do is your best Shantwhite.

Completely agree with this. The haircare journey never truly ends. The longer it gets the challenges are different. And as mentioned above, we are all only one bad mistake from being the girl that gets talked badly about.

Even though I'm a hair snob, I'm still very grateful. That's right, I'm a grateful snob!:lachen:

Not only have I become a TOTAL snob... but, I will not leave my house unless my hair is done. I wash and rollerset my hair at least twice a week (most times it's three times a week). My mom just shakes her head! She doesn't say anything anymore because it is clear my hair is getting longer and healthier!

I agree with this ....hence my ever present hesitation to get "long" layers because what is long to a stylist may not be long to me.......and that could mean a setback.

Healthy hair in a bun is still healthy hair. My hair is in a bun right now and anyone can tell it is full, thick, and moisturized. It feels good to the touch too. I admire women with full thick buns because their hair is long and, most likely, healthy.

Although APL is NOTHING to sneeze at, I do feel that way when I see it now. I think it's just that I've realized through the boards that we as black women aren't limited to looking up to only APL. We CAN be BSL, WL, and KL if we want !! :)

Well, I'm "just APL" and I think I'm pretty freakin' hawt!! ;)

Umm are you tall? because your APl length looks like it would be my BSL...Girl it looks FAB!! APL is my ultimate goal but as I inch towards it...I'm like hmm...BSL isn't that much further :look:

But as for the question, Yes I look at hair length completely different! I use to think APL hair was soooo long!!! Hell I thought a little past SL was a good length! Until I started growing my hair...:ohwell:
