thinking of using braidouts vs phonytails.

i have grown tired of wearing phonytails, even though they seemed to have helped my hair. but i have grown tired of running to the beauty store to buy another fake ponytail. and then i'm tired of slicking my hair back, i see that my edges have started to thin out because of this. recently i have adopted the braidout style for the past 3 days. i know it is not "protective" but i like not having to comb it and i didn't put any heat on it at all. any other ladies here get good growing results with using braidouts? i have just grown so weary of phonytails. plus they make me look 18 versus 30 when i wear them which is not good when you have a professional career

well i've been using braid outs for the past week now and i love it. it's easy to maintain and although it's not a protective style in the sense that your hair is not off your shoulders it does put stress off it without a brush and comb. my hair seems to be retaining it's length and it's not breaking like it used to.

Ladies, the braid / twist outs CAN be a protective style

. I've turned mine into one. All u have to do is make a bun with the length hair. It'll look like a crimpy bun

. Ok, maybe ur not feeling this, but it's a style that will grow on u

I like to wear my braidouts down for a couple days, then drench the length & ends with S-Curl & wear it in a bun the next several days.

BTW, dress it up like u would do any bun... drape silk/satin scarves, etc around it. Have fun with the look

If u don't have enough length for a bun....

Hmmm, let me think on that one...

Peachtree,

I do something similar. Usually, I'll wear my twistout in a ponytail the first day. Then the 2nd and third day, I'll wear it twisted up in a barrette or a scrunchie. It is like a crimpy bun. I still need to try that S curl though...

Dang! I was told that a twistout was a sort of, kind of, like a protective style because it has alot of moisturizing products kept on it.

Oh well.

Peachtree, what do you think about those who don't have enough length for a bun to use a french twist?

Spagirl, Last year I wore a french roll/twist exclusively as my protective style. I rinsed daily, let airdry and pinned my hair up. It wasn't all that pretty to me and I got tired of it because I had to wear it in order to correct my hair problems at the time, but my hair is doing so much better this summer because of it. My hair is shoulder length now and still to short for a nice bun. I'm still wearing my french twist and I'm loving it now.
