Thinking about getting a ... dundundundunnnn...

In your defense CH, I know how you feel. Everyone tells me that my hair is long enough, but I'd like more length and I get impatient. I think some clip in pieces may be a good option for you. Weaves can be hard on the hair. But I won't tell you that you absolutely shouldn't--it's your choice!

I have long, thick hair too and I wear weave(sew-ins and interlocking only) sometimes. As long as you get someone who really knows what they are doing, you will be fine. My closest friends did not know I had it in until I told them. I only leave it in for three weeks at a time. By the time I take it out, I already have 1 1/2 inches of growth and no split ends. My friend has been wearing it for 2 1/2 years straight. Her hair is now down to her butt and very healthy. It was only 4in long when she started wearing it because she cut all the perm out of her hair and only gets a perms 2x a year. I'm jealous now because I have always been the one out the group with the longest hair. This is what inspired me to start wearing it.

Just make sure that you have no split ends before you get it. Put your leave in cond. in and make sure you put your moisturizers in. Once the stylist is finishing braiding and before the weave, put some liquid oil in the parts and massage it underneath the braids. after the hair is in make sure you put the liquid oil in you scalp every three or four days depending on how dry your hair is. Put it in 3-4 weeks after a perm and never perm your hair right after you take it out. comb you hair out thouroughly after taking it out (wide tooth comb), wash it, and wait at least 4-5 days if you want to perm it.

I forgot to add that my friend gets reinforment hair braided into her hair to take the pressure off her natural hair and she said that is what keeps the hair from breaking. you want find too many stylist who are willing to go through all of this with you. good luck

Re: Thinking about getting a ... dundundundunnnn..

lalah that's unbelieveable about your friend. most folks i know of with weaves dont bother to take care of it or their real hair underneath and get breakage. end result? their hair never grows.

WHAT??? CH, your hair looks so pretty!! It's thick & healthy, and it's long enough!! Why do you want to get a weave?? What if it messes up your hair???

Hmmpf... I wouldn't do it...

I agree! Your hair is so pretty!!

yep u just need a few pieces..not a full head, especially if your only gonna keep it in for a few weeks, when i wore weave wich was not that long ago, i would go to lugos, wich is in manhatten and in brooklyn, the have great hair, and when u go they will help u pick out a texture, and they will match up you texture and color right there in front of you....the vevn hand sew the wefts right there while u wait...its great...it will probably run you about 70 - 100 bucks, maybe not even that much, but u can reuse the hair, just wash it and use it another time...i have bags full of lugos weave, that i still keep....for a rainy weavy day.....lol

Thanks ladies, you have given me a lot of information. I didn't do it this past weekend, but I will within the next 2 weeks.
Lalah - VERY DETAILED AND APPRECIATED

Quick ques, by "reinforcement braid" do you mean that her hair is braided with extensions?

Where is Lugo's (Manhattan) located? Is it $70-100 per track
shocked.gif
? Also, how long would I be able to keep it in before it'll need tightening?

If you can cornrow, you can do your own and save the money. It really isn't that hard.

The prices some hairdressers charge for extensions are beyond outrageous.

I do think you should invest in a human hair fall.

Maybe I'll go to the salon I had in mind and watch them as they are weaving somebody up
laugh.gif
. I can only cornroll my daughter's hair, i wouln't even attempt to do my own, it would b too sloppy (and yes, one braid would be nasty
rofl.gif
). One of my girlfriends want to do it for me but I'm a little hesitant. Shoot, i'll be damned if I pay $100 for some top-o-da-line hair and she comes in cutting and pasting and
shocked.gif
i wind up looking like an electrocuted eel.

hey girl....ive come prepared for you..here is the # to the lugo's in brooklyn....ask them for the manhatten loc. # 1718-284-0370.....and if you only plan on leaving it in for 3 weeks you wont need a tighten...i would normally leave my weaves in for 1 month- 1/12 months, only because i get antsy with hair styles and i need a change, but as far as a tighten , maybe at a month in a half or so...depending on your personal hair growth..alos its not 70-100 per track....lol...im jusat sayin thats how much dollar amount you will spend for the whole thing....i usually spend about 100 bucks for my whole head....so that was just an estimate for you....where are you planning to go for your weave....what salon?

Girl, you are on POINT!!! I was planning on going to this shop on 222nd and White Plains (Oneika & Kay). Unless u had another spot in mind
wink.gif
?

no, i only know of some spots in brooklyn, but if u got a reccomendation from someone to go there go ahead, i mostly used to do my own weaves but the one lady i would reccommend she is in brooklyn and she charges a small fortune for a full head weave, but i dunno how much she would charge for just a few tracks.....what do you think u are gonna get?
a full head or partial?
i am excited for you.....

hey carmelhonie i put some pictures in my album of my last weave that i did....the pictures are kinda blurry but these are the only pictures i took of them myself....i did the net weave, i love the way it came out.....check it out....

YOU'RE HAIR IS THE BOMB! where does the weave begin?? i can't even tell it looks so good. dang im jealous! can you do mine?? lol no seriously, can you?

i am looking for weaves, braids, wash and sets...anything. i want to find good hair stylists bc i keep going to the wrong ones and jumping around.
thanks

thnx girl...its not a full head, but its almost a full head, i did the net weave, and i just left a little of my own hair out in the top, just a tiny part, so it is almost all weave...caralexis, i live in NY, do you as well?
i did weaves for the entire summer, and i got alota growth but i just wish i woulda known about caring for my hair underneath the weave , i think i woulda retained more lenghth....i lost alot due to not caring for my hair underneath....

asummertyme i do live in NY.
i still cant believe you did that on your own. it looks professional. and you know pics usually pick up on mismatching hair. Go on girl! you did the dang thang!

thnx girl, i love hair in every aspect, weaves braids, natural, and relaxed it all intrests me to the max...i hav ebeen doing hair since i was a kidd .... i love it.....

asummertyme - I am just getting a partial (about 5 tracks). AND DANG GIRL
shocked.gif

laugh.gif
... like cara, im serious 2. p.s. i'm soooo excited 2
smile.gif

CBG - Kay usually did my hair but I haven't been there in a while. Do you remember that light skinned slim girl that use to work there (her name was Kathy)? If so, do you know where she is now? Her weaves were so tight it was ridiculous.

CH- is she tall? I think her name was Catherine. I never saw her do a weave only relaxers. I never let her anywhere near me since she had no hairline.

Yeah, that's got 2 b her. But I saw her do a couple of weaves and good gravy
shocked.gif
they were beautiful. And everytime I saw her, her 'hair' was on point! She might have alopecia [sp?]...in any event, does oneika do your weaves?

I don;t think she has alopecia, because she models her own work in magazines and I saw it decrease through the stages. As in she had braids and clearly was putting braids on 2 strands of hair type thing. When I go I get the front braided and the rest weaved with the same type of hair to match. It speeds up the process and usually looked fantastic. This time however it only looked just good.
crazy.gif

Don't u just hate when that happens
frown.gif
I'm going to give them a call now since Kay is back from maternity leave (so i've heard) to find out their prices and I'll let you know what she said. Have you ever seen them thread in pieces? If so, who was it and how did it come out?

CH I really can't figure out how it happened. I have had it done 5 times before and all five times it looked like Whoa !!! Traffic stoppingand everything. This time just okay, she braided it smaller than I liked. I have never seen them do peices but I saw Oneika do a fabuous braid out on her own hair with Sebastian Wet that made me want to go home a do a braidout.
