THINKING ABOUT A MAJOR CUT..........

OK This is the dilema, i have abour 5-6 inches of texturized hair left over from my dreaded affirm lye days, and the rest is relaxed straight. the ends are so much frizzier, drier and tangly and split, and i've put up with it for a long time, i was wondering whether i should cut most of it off at my next touch-up, but cutting will put me way back in my time frame to reach my hair length goals. what would you do?

I think the sooner the better dear so you can start focusing totally on your length goals without having to think about those nasty ends. :) Do it for the health of your hair!

I thought the same thing about the virgin hair I originally texturized. Although I didn't know it, my hair was in pretty bad shape before I texturized it so I never expected it to stay. Turns out, I've only had to cut off 2.5 of the 6 inches of 'old' hair. The remaining 3.5 inches are thin, but they are not damaged. My point is, I'm really glad I decided to trim an inch at a time over 6 months instead of cutting the entire 6 inches off at once.

WhipEffectz1, Yeah, my ends feel horrible, the relaxed part feels healthy and smooth.
Sareca, I may just take off 3 inches at my next touch-up and cut the remainer 2-3 inches off at the follwing oner, i can't believe that will be a year worth of growth.

Den I noticed that you get at least one inch a month - why don't you take off an inch a month. I really love your hair!!!

I used to get an inch per month with amino acids and b complex, i stopped them a while now i was finding it hard to remain consistent due to so many issues i'm dealing with. The vits i take now, EFAs, silica and msm aid the health of my hair rather than the growth.

Hmm. Since your ends are texturized ( a relaxer thats not been in long enough to make it straight) is it possible to have the texturized ends relaxed for a short amount of time to make it fully relaxed? Kinda like a corrective of underprocessed hair?

my hair stylist was suggesting the same thing, I may try this first and then take off an inch or two.

I would recommend this same thing too. My hair was texlaxed for almost 2years and my hair was giving me a fit poofy, frizzy etc. My hair does much better relaxed straight. One visit, my stylist relaxed my new growth like she normally does, then combed the relaxer down my hair shaft just before rinsing. I only needed a regular trim afterward. My hair has been doing great since.

Den1 I seriously avoided this thread because I couldn't read it. I just do not want you to cut your hair.

Why don't you try a corrective? Or next time you touch up, right before you rinse your relaxer, put some relaxer on the parts that are underprocessed. Leave it on there for a hot second (or minute or two) and smooth and then rinse.

ITA with this and what the other ladies are saying. Just process the texlaxed parts and go from their. I bet your pretty hair is healthier than you think.

nikki1971: Eaxctly how you described your textlaxed hair, I really do hope it turns out as well as your did.

MizaniMami: lol!! i'm scared of cutting off my hair too, you've convinced me now to wait until my touch-up, and go over the ends, and do a 1-2 inch trim.

leleepop:Thanks!!! for the encouragement, i really do hope everything will turn out well, i feel the having the two textures may be doing more harm than good.
