The Wolfganglisborg Method

Anyone here does his method? If so, have you noticed great results??? And what oils are you using? TIA.

For those who don’t know, it’s basically a way to finesse your curls and have them more defined w/ shine and luster. Also been said to help prevent split ends and single strand knots. (See detailed regimen under photos)

ETA: His regimen summed up (thanks to @Theresamonet ):

What he does is:

1. Rinse and detangles his hair every day in the shower. He detangles with several tools while smoothing into a style (buns, ponys, pigtails).
2. The tools he uses ranges from a rake comb, vented brush, denman brush, fine tooth combs, and a soft boar bristle brush. There really is no order to which brushes he uses. He just does what’s needed to get his hair as smooth as possible. It seems like a rake or vented brush-> denman-> boar brush is his average combo. He does not like a regular wide tooth comb because it does not smooth, but promotes frizz.
3. After his hair is completely smooth, he tops with oil and then ties is down with a satin scar to set his waves.
4. Every 3 days he does an oil rinse. He applies the oil to his hair and scalp overnight or no less than an hour before his wash. Then he co-washes the oil out. Old school co-washing with a rinse out conditioner. He then follows the above steps.
5. He washes with shampoo. I can’t tell how exactly how often, I’m estimating that he shampoos every 6-8 days. That routine is oil rinse-> shampoo-> detangle with conditioner->style. He’s just discovered cleansing conditioners, so he’s been using that in place of shampoo as his wash in his more recent videos.
6. He does not normally use any leave in or gels in his hair. Just oils and water. Recently it appears he’s been getting contacted by different brands so he’s incorporated some leave-ins and gels into the routine. But he’s big on not weighting down and overly coating the hair.
7. He does not deep condition.
8. He seems to give more credit to the daily rinsing and detangling and setting his waves, than to just oil rinsing.
9. He insists that the water temperature must be hot (not scalding) while doing all of this.

I do but I haven't been that consistent yet as I previously didn't use many hair tools and therefore don't own many. Makes a huge difference for myself and my daughters in how styles look and feel. Much smoother and softer hair. I can also do wet ponytails without worry whereas in the past it meant the section around the hair tie developing a smell. Just washed my hair today and was able to run a fine toothed comb through like a hot knife through butter lol. Here's my daughter's hair doing it recently

Beautiful !!!! What’s your daughter’s curl pattern??? And even though y’all haven’t been consistent, how long would you say you’ve been doing it now? I can’t wait to do my daughters. Her texture looks similar to your baby’s.

Thank you! She has super fine, low density 4a/4b hair, maybe some 3c? She honestly has like 3-4 diff patterns going on so I don't type it lol. I've done it on and off for a few months now. I want to start being much more consistent with it though.

Yeah it’s what @water_n_oil shared. That’s his IG. He explains more in his IG TV, and i think a few YTers started doin it.

The gist of it is he does a lot of oil cleansing/washing, while detangling with a series of tools under running hot water. The key is opening your cuticles, getting nutrients from the oils in your hair and training your curls. Down to the point where he can even get a fine tooth comb from root to tip with beautiful shiny curls. If you like that kinda thing. I like the fact that he can go from tightly coiled hair to a more uniformed clumped curl look. And that your hair can do both with proper training.

This video brought me up to speed on the routine. I'm not really on Instagram like that, so I'm glad someone broke it down real quick on YT.

And watching this video I see the wolf guy is following the routine of this woman.

So oil rinsing/washing. The link I posted shows a lot of members doing the exact thing. Little tweaks and different oils tried throughout it. It’s a great thread with a lot of information.

Yes, but oil rinsing with a lot of brushing and combing also. I think that’s where his technique differs from just oil rinsing.

Eta: @water_n_oil just saw u basically said the same thing lol. Replied before I saw all responses. lol
Lol yup. His point is also making plain ol' water your hair's main best friend as opposed to using a lot of different products.

I spent forever going through his IG trying to piece this together. His regimen combines oil rinsing/washing with the techniques guys use to wave train their hair.

That’s all I can really recall right now. Honestly, 1/3 of what this guys says about hair is nonsense. The other 1/3 of his posts are word salads that I can barely understand. But the last 1/3 sounds like a pretty good hair regimen. I may try it out. I definitely need to detangle my hair more often, and following waving techniques to get better curl definition just makes sense to me.

Girl, It was HARD. I had that same look on my face the whole time. Lol

I gave a few times, but see, I’m dedicated to this hair thing. I need to know all the “methods”.

Y’all are welcome.

I thought that my apprehension was off because I couldn’t figure it out. It seems like he’s being intentionally vague.

I don’t think he’s being intentionally vague. I think he’s trying to sound cool and smarter, more intelligent than he is. Neither is working, or they’re canceling each other out.

He says things like, “learn to use your finessing tools to maneuver your roots daily”, instead of just saying use progressively smaller tooth combs to smooth down your roots.

Let me clarify. It seems like he’s being intentionally vague in order to get traffic to his postings. As you said, you had to watch a number of videos and read a number of posts to get details on his full regimen. I had the same experience and looked at 4 or 5 videos to still not understand what his regimen was. It seemed that every video that I watched/post that I read, referred me vaguely to an earlier video/post.

Thanks for putting in the work. Now that you’ve explained it, I might try it when I take my hair down from these crochet braids.

This seems like a lot of work and how does this work for washngos? I need my gel and leave ins
Like with any "method" you can take bits and pieces and/or tweak it to fit your personal hair needs. I still use gel (never cared for most leave ins) but detangling to this degree gives me a way better looking wng than when I simply finger detangle or only use one wide tooth comb. No one's an expert on your hair but you so I take what seems good for me from anyone. Or none of it sometimes lol.

I don’t think gel and leave-in have anything to do with the method. He just doesn’t use it cause he doesn’t feel he needs them. In a few vids he uses Jessie curl gel and Keracare leave in (I think they were sponsored). There’s no reason why one can’t incorporate a gel, leave-in, or DC into his regimen.

But I think his method will only work for WnGers if you re-wet and detangle daily or every other day at the most.

I think his method actually sounds really easy. It just has to be done daily. He just rinses in the shower with just water, run his combs through, use oil to make a ponytail or puff, apply scarf.

He does say his hair dries really fast.
