The Ultimate Hardcore No Heat Challenge 2013

Was playing with my hair on wash day got lazy and decided to put in 2 French braids. It dried really good. By hair is smooth and it gives my pony tail and or bun a big juicy look. So happy I tried it didn't think I could (can't braid for the life of me) hoping this new method helps me lay off the heat

I love french braiding! It's a great style and great for stretching. I'm glad your French braids turned out!

It's been over 3 months since I last used heat and I am finally seeing the difference!! My hair is retaining its length and it feels so much thicker. We are all going to see so much progress next year!!

^I am at one year heat free, and my hair is thicker, shiny, easy to condition, and style.

I do have SSK's so I am going to try finger detangling next year to see if more gentle handling reduces them.

Im planning on doing a henna treatment next weekend. Im really looking forward to seeing changes in my hair due to not using heat! Im also considering ponytail rollersets using like 2 rollers out of sheer laziness lol

My length check before my trim & a couple of pics of my post trim fro. I'm definitely thinking about weaving it up for the entire 2013 starting at the end of next month.

I so need this! After I hit APL and got "that long hurr", I've been abusing my flat iron. I need to get back to basics and apply the techniques that got me there in the first place!!

To Join the Challenge answer these questions
1. Are you doing challenge level 1 (heat every three months), challenge level 2 (heat every six months), challenge level 3 ( No heat in 2013)
-Challenge Level 2 or 3. I maaaaaay sneak in a flat iron session depending on where I go for vacation. If I'm in a place or with people where I can't be hogging the bathroom and spending tons of time on my hair, I'm gonna flat iron before I go. I'll attempt to rollerset before resorting to the flat iron, though.

2. Have you ever done a no heat challenge before?
-I can't remember. I think I did, but failed.

3. Do you plan to trim your ends without heat?
-I have a pair of shears that I'll be using to S&D occasionally, so yes!

4. Do you know How to Stretch your hair without heat?
-No, but I only use a blowdryer when rollersetting.

5. Do you plan to increase your challenge to the ultimate level by protective styling everyday?
-I usually pin up my hair for work, so I think it's possible!

5a. If not, can you commit to low manipulation styles throughout your challenge?
-Yep!

6. What do you hope to gain from this challenge?
-THAT LONG HURR!! :lachen: Aiming for MBL or longer for 2013!

7. Do you know how to do length checks without heat?
-Yep, unless there's a new technique that I'm unaware of...

8. Post both a starting length and thickness picture. Pictures are Mandatory to be a member of this challenge
-Will edit this post and add!

9. List your No Heat Regime
-Sunday: Wash & DC, airdry
-Monday: Moisturize and seal
-Tuesday: Sulphur concoction
-Wednesday: Cowash, airdry
-Thursday: Moisturize and seal
-Friday: Sulphur concoction
-Saturday: Moisturize and seal

Bunning, hairsticks, and twistouts for styling.

Ok...it's official - I look stupid in a wig. I think I'm going to use French Braids as my protective style for a little while. I'll come up with something else later on.

Ladies, I'm going to bow out of this challenge for next year, but I will be rooting for you all from the sidelines! :)

Okay ladies I scored some ONYC Mongolian Kinky Curly hair so I will be in weaves from the end of January until right before Christmas with only 1 week breaks in between to detox my hair & scalp with my "precious" mud wash.

I do have a question/issue. I haven't talked to Tamika yet but I think she may be blow drying me before she does my cornrows so that means every 3 1/2 mos I may have to use heat before my install. Can I still participate? I won't be using heat any other time as she has already told me that the hair is a great match to my own so heat won't be needed for blending.

nakialovesshoes That sounds great! We have an every three month no heat challenge, so that will work out just fine. Break out the camera, take a picture of how you are wearing your hair every month. Of course we want to see and hear about every install, and please post reviews of the hair over time.

Just checking in. Washed my hair last night after a workout with a clarifying shampoo and then conditioned with V05 moisturizing Freesia, wet bunned and a satin scarf. Im getting braided in a couple week, so I will be bunning til then.

Made my weave appointment today. I'm getting it done on the 29th. I'll definitely be back with pics & details. I plan to keep it for 3-3.5 months.

I'm going to use GroAut oil with sulfur added as my growth aid. I will only take a week off between installs to mud detox my hair/scalp.

My goal is to remain in weaves until I reach WL or my son graduates from high school (May 2014), whichever comes 1st.
