The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall out

That's what the young cashier at the grocery store said her hair stylist told her when she told her she wanted to go natural :naughty:. She was admiring my hair and complimented me on how pretty my naturally curly hair was when she made that statement. She was shocked to learn my hair was relaxed for 25+ years and I've only been natural a little over a 1 1/2 years. Of course I had to give her a crash course and directed her to LHCF and youtube. I need to find that stylist and :hammer:

i don't post often, but that was the DUMBEST thing i've ever heard. what the....?! i'm mad at both of them - at the stylist for saying it and the person for accepting it point blank. come on..:nono::nono::nono::nono:

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

I don't know who I'm more annoyed with: the stylist for spewing that rubbish or the cashier for believing them :nono:

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

I Know right! I was pretty pissed off but the cashier was really young so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Now that stylist on the other hand............

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

OP, if you directed her to this website, wouldn't she be embarrassed if she sees this thread?

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

How are there people walking around that ignorant? SMH

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

OMG! I didn't know I had cancer!!! **Runs to doctor**

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

Good grief. You know I thought I heard it all til today.

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

This is sad on so many levels.

Part of the reason the stylist said this is because sometimes when people lose their hair to chemo, when it grows back, it can be a completely different texture and curl pattern. :nono: Usually softer, finer with a looser curl pattern.

im not going to lie, i have thought along the lines of something similar: i will only have short natural hair again if i was to get cancer or surgery and had to cut my hair off.

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

That stylist just wanted to keep getting $$$ from that girl. People put trust in these so called professionals, even when it's not deserved.

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

Shut the front door....what on earth?

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

What an atrociously ignorant thing to say. Scary stylists out there....

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

Wow...despite access to factual info, the sad truth is myths like this still permeate the thinking of "smart" people.

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

people are sooooooooo stupid.
i can't believe the stuff that comes out of their mouths!

oh well ignorance prevails.

you are referring to having "short" natural hair

the stylist was referring to having the ability to go natural can only happen if she were to get cancer, not necessarily short.

Good and rightfully so. I'd be embarrassed to even REPEAT that comment, does it even sound like it makes sense?!?! I had better sense than that at 12 years old.

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

That is a rare, devastating and aggressive strain of stupid. OP, it's a miracle that that woman is alive and well after having been at the mercy of such a raging idiot with access to sharp instruments and caustic chemicals.

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

I don't know how or why people think the hair that was ON your head can affect the hair that grows OUT of your head.

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

:nono: @ a stylist uttering something so far off base at this. At the same time I think we all, at one time, were told things about our hair that we once believed such as "African American Women Cant Grow Long Hair" , "If your hair is breaking its because you need a relaxer", "Our hair doesn't need/like water", shall I go on??

I'm sure that girl trusted and respected her stylist (no matter how incorrect we know she is) to believe that. She probably has no idea about hair on the level some of us have come to know. So, to her(the client) that was a true statement.

All of this^^^^^^^

Re: The only way you can go back to natural hair is to get cancer and your hair fall

Having a rare incurable cancer that chewed up by bra strap length hair to less then 1/8 of an inch with a totally bald crown from ear to ear, (except for a fringe of a hairline) I find the stylist's statement totally offensive.

I see no mention of the expensive medications associated with cancer. One of the medications I take is over $4,000.00 a month. I endure the chunks of flesh that just peel off my palms and the soles of my feet, the vomiting, throwing up pieces of damaged lung tissue.....................

I'm sorry, Ladies. My pain is not yours and I was wrong to lay some of my pain at your feet.

This stylist's ignorant statement is my reality.

I am just trying to live another day.....................................:creatures
