The Beyond Waist Length Thread

Count me in!!!!!!!!
Really, I want Crystal Gale-type dragging the floor length hair. But I don't know how easy/practical it would be to care for that super-length while homeschooling and running a home based business.

Plus DH thinks hair that long looks like Captain Caveman... not a turn-on for him. :barf:

I think that classic length is the perfect compromise, and I do feel it's doable.

I'm doing the Crown & Glory method for the next 2 years. I get pretty close to an inch per month, so I can expect some decent length during that time. We'll see after that if I continue with C&G to acquire more length, or if I wear my hair out.

When I do finish with the braids, I'll be protective styling for sure, I can't wait to have the length for some of those old Edwardian updos. :D

:lachen::lachen::lol::lol::lachen::lachen::lol::lol:

I haven't even HEARD Captain Cavemen in years!!!! That was just too funny to me....

Back to the thread...:look:

For those of you who are already waistlength & beyond, do you ever wear your out or mainly wear protective styles? What about rollersets to straighten? Do you think that's too much manipulation? I have a hot oil treatment on my head now & will shampoo w/phyto nectar & cond w/phytokarite, then use my phytodefrissantwith some BB straightening glaze.

I really want to get to those longer lengths while enjoying my hair & feeling beautiful at the same time. The bun is fine for work, but when I go out, I feel like an old lady, even with the beautiful jeweled hairsticks decorating my bun:ohwell:

This will be the second time this month I would have done a rollerset to wear my hair out...Do you think I can still reach my beyond waist goal? When the weather gets cold & I go back to wearing wool coats, the hair will be back in the buns until the next Spring.

TIA...Schip

I wear my hair out alot during the fall, winter and spring. In the summer, I mainly wear ponytails, updo's or some other style to keep my hair off of my neck. It's too hot to have my hair down during that time, in addition my rollersets wouldn't stand up the humidity in this city during the summertime. Siince you're alternating between the bun and rollersets, I think you'll be fine. Moderation is the key when trying to grow really long hair but it's also important to enjoy the fruits of your hard work from time to time.

Thanks MochaMadness for your reply. Your length doesn't seem to have suffered from you wearing it out. Do you wear wool coats or leather? Or do you tuck it inside the coat. The winter has laways wreaked havoc on my hair:( This was the first winter that I made it out ok...I still had to cut, but not back to shoulder or apl. I am happy with the condition of my hair now even though it is about 1 inch above bsl because of my regular cutting since Nov.:ohwell:

BTW: I know first hand about the challenges of Boston humidity:( My first college id, it was misting & my hair frizzed something terrible for the photo...I still have that horrid thing:lol:

In the winter I usually wear a mix of columbia and wool coats in addition to a thick cotton hat. I do end up tucking the length inside of the coat. Since you know about the humidity up here, then I'm sure you know about how bitter and cold the winter can be  For me, in the winter I find that I have to moisturize and seal my hair everyday. There's no way around it for me. By doing that, my hair has a layer of protection against the elements each day and it keeps the dryness and splits under control.

I would love to grow mine out to hip length at the most. I have been staying at this length for some time cutting out damage first, then trimming out a layered cut that I had not wanted (grrrrr).

I think I am ready to stop trimming as much now and go back to accumulating length. I trimmed 1/2" two days ago. I will be checking back in with you ladies.

Hi everyone i'm new to the LHCF. I currently have BSL and I would like to grow my hair past my waist. I dream about having a long thick braid swinging behind me.:)

Welcome to LHCF!

I bet you'll have that long braid sooner than you think.:)

Checking in here. I am glad to see that there is more support on this board for longer lengths. It seemed in the past that sometimes hair that was waist or longer was seen as "gross." Hopefully after looking at all the beautiful heads of hair on this thread we can change some people's minds!

I am currently somewhere in between hip and tailbone length (closer to hip) and my next goal is tailbone. Once I get there, I plan to maintain for awhile to get my hair as thick as possible, then keep growing! I'm not quite sure what my ultimate goal is, but I think that I'd like to have hip-lenth curly hair. I think that might require classic length stretched, but we'll see. After that, who knows :)

schipperchow1, I wear my hair down occasionally (maybe 1 or 2 times per month) and it's fine. I always make sure to wear smooth clothing when I do this, like silky, satiny-type fabrics, and I find that really helps to reduce tangling. I generally keep my hair up though, not just for growth, but also because I like having my hair out of the way! I only tried to do a rollerset once, and it was too hard! I prefer braid-outs if I want my hair to be a little straighter. Easier on me and my hair.

MizAvalon,

the labels for the names of the hairlengths in the link you posted are cracking me up....trolleypup:lol:

I'm just now seeing this. I went back and checked out Trolleypup's hair, I think it's a man. His hair is beautiful but what's up with those furry red pants with feet that he has on?

Congrats,To All Who Are Waist & Beyond. I'am working on That As Well. Happy Hair Growing!

Ooooh, can this thread be revived?!?

Who is going for hip, tailbone or classic? I am, I am! My goal is tailbone stretched, but I have no intention of trimming to maintain it there. If I get there and beyond, I'll keep on going.

And what are you doing to get there?
Protective styling, regular deep conditioning, no heat, no chemicals, low manipulation.
It's funny, even though I'm using a growth aid, that's not really going to help me get there - it's just going to help me get there faster.

Question: How do you feel about fairy-tale ends?

I got over being a product junkie. Now I'm a hair toy junkie!

I  fairy tale ends - but then, I'm a big ole hippie, anyhow. I think that they simply suit curly hair better than the other cuts, and that surly hair suits fairy tale ends the best, too. :infatuated:

I think I'm starting to go that way too.... I've been thinking about getting a new DC - and it's like - meeeehhhh. I'll try the Aubrey's Organics, but what I REALLY want to do is go hair toy mad. The only reason I'm even marginally in control of myself is because my buns aren't big enough yet. :lachen:

I'm in! A tailbone-length blowout w/ thick, curled ends is my ultimate goal.

I believe I will be there in July 2010. I just got my hair back in great shape after a few years of being all over the place so I really hope it will be smooth sailing now.

Good luck, ladies! We have to remember to check in:)

Ooooh, that sounds SO pretty!

Oh, wow! I was just thinking of this thread the other day, but I hate bumping my own old threads. So thanks!

I'm always wanting to check in with those who are beyond waist length or wanting to be beyond waist length. I'm very close to tailbone when stretched right now. I have a plan to be there by the end of December 2008. Me and FlowerHair. :)

I like fairy tale ends too, JustKiya. Sometimes they look so beautiful...dreamy. I can understand those who prefer a neat, blunt hemline. Sometimes that can look really nice too. But I've always liked fairy tales endings. ;) :yep:

TBL stretched is as far as I'm probably going to go. Which would be WL unstretched or at least close to it. But I might change my mind. I never thought I wanted hair that long till I got on this board!!

Oh I want waist length... but i dont wanna have to straighten it i want it to be that way curly...im hoping i wont have to start gulping down raw eggs. Tried to do it i chickened out...and my aunt was threatened me not to do it lol.

Not sure if I will make it to Tailbone, But would love to have all the way around hip length hair unstretched. If it will continue to grow, My guess is I would make it about this time in 2009.

The longer it gets, the thinner it is. I am thinking it is because once the relaxer is rinsed out, chemical is still getting on the ends of my hair. There is only so much room in the shampoo bowl at the salon, so I am sure it is getting some reaction. I am sure at some point, I will need to get my ends trimmed.

RZ~

I would love to be beyond waist length. I am currently trying to achieve full WL, then I will go from there. Tailbone length is my ultimate goal, I think. As my hair gets longer, my goals change.

This is a great thread for sure. :yep: Now I understand what you meant by fairy tale ends, I really prefer my ends to look nature. Not into the blunt cut other than it makes the hair look organized. I like the wild natural fall of ends that were just allowed to grow.

i'll just have to see if I dont stay at waist for like forever........

I doubt it, your hair will keep on growing, it's probably taking a thickening pause right now.

I was looking for this thread and here it pops up. I wanted to update since I've reached WSL, updated my avatar and my ultimate hair goal is Hip-Tailbone straight/Mid-back-WSL curly hair, I wouldn't mind some thick ends either. My only problem now is shrinkage, I do see a little more length now, but I prob need 4 or 5 more inches of hair all around to get over the curly-length hump aka APL...again. I'm waiting it out before I decide if I need some chemical assistance, something I'm not really wanting to do again. I'm so much closer to hip-length hair now sometimes I can't believe I'm talking about hip length like it's just around the corner not a far off dream and I'm thankful for that shrinkage and all. :yep:
I've stopped the Crown and Glory, and I'm baggying and wigging it. It's so easy I keep my hair in 2-4 braids moisturized and sealed underneath the wig and nobody knows, except you ladies. :sekret:
