That's It! No more salons! (RANT)

Uh! I went to the salon to get a relaxer the day before yesterday. I asked him in advance if he had Vitale pro, and he said yes, but when I got there he only had designer touch.

Well, I was 11 weeks post with wonderful new growth and I've been nurturing my ends like crazy. I had zero breakage and was only sheddnig a few hairs a day.

Well, this idiot puts this relaxer on and it starts burning like crazy. He was just slapping it on ...way past the new growth onto the previously relaxed hair. Finally we get to the sink and he leaves me at the sink with the relaxer on my head while he takes a call.

Not to mention, I couldn't even talk to him while he was doing my hair because he had three guys sitting right there talking about some business venture he's involved in. I couldn't get in a word about my hair without loudly interrupting.

Finally he washes it out the relaxer out, and I'm totally not sure he used neutrilizer shampoo.

When I left my hair was soft and bouncy (probably thanks to the smoking flat iron he was using), but the next morning it was crispy and limp. Since that time I'm shedding a lot and breaking a moderate amount -- well a lot compared to before.

So tonight I'm gonna do a protien treatment and a good moisturizer and pray for the best.

One good thing was that my ends were in such a great condition that even he had to admit I didn't need a trim.

Yet, I'm decided. I'm not gonna pay 85 bucks for this mess. I can jack my stuff up this bad at home. For now I'm DIY. No more salons for chayil. If I can't do it myself it won't be done.

Yikes. That's dangerous. I would have gotten up and washed it out myself. I'm sorry you had to go through that, though.

I think Aubrey Organics GPB conditioner is a good protein conditioner. You leave it on for 15 on dry hair, but I do it with wet hair. You can also try a cholesterol conditioner for added softness.

dang....make sure to use a neutralizer shampoo w/ your next wash. I think w/ a good deep condition you'll be back in shape. NEVER go back to that crappy stylist again!! :whip:

This is almost a mirror image to my salon touch-up experience 4 weeks ago, down the the $85! And the next day it felt dry like yours. I ended up DC'ing the next day, and a week later I did an Emergencee Treatment along with the works ACV/Avocado pre-poo, Botanoil treatment Poo, moisturizing DC, all that. My hair came out so much better. Sounds like you'll get it together!

Welcome to the DIY club! You can do a 10 times better job with your hair at home, for free:) There are plenty of excellent tips on this board. Check out Londondiva, Southerngirl, and Lonei for relaxer tips. Also, Arcadian has some good tips as well. Free yourself, that stylist does not care about you or your hair.

I suggest you use a neutralizing poo or a neutralizing conditioner when you wash today to help with the shedding, and the protein is a good idea too.

I am AMAZED at the things some so-called "stylists" try to do. *smh*

I stopped going to stylists about 7 months ago. If my hair is gonna be damaged, I prefer to do it myself. It's cheaper and I don't have anybody to blame but me!

(BTW, my hair is in much better shape since I started doing my own relaxers again:D )

I'm sorry this happened to you. Was this your first time going to this stylist? I hate the feeling of powerlessness that I get when I am at the mercy of a hairdresser that I do not fully trust. Maybe you could try self-relaxing? I know of some ladies who have practiced using conditioner. I find that relaxing in sections is much easier. Or, you could ask a trusted friend to help. If you don't feel totally comfortable, then they could do the back and you could do the front. Using a mild relaxer might buy you some time.

All I have to say is protect! protect! protect! Try to incorporate protein in your regime using reconstructors like Emergencee. But always remember to keep a balance of moisture. I did a self relaxer about a month ago, and I kind of botched it. My roots and length were dry as hell, but I found that Cowashing and DCing on dry hair before each wash (POO and CW) helped get it in check. I have 2 DC mixes that each contain a protein and moisturizing agents, so I kind do it all in one step. Also I clarify and do Emergencee treatments every other week.

HTH

AWW!!! Hope everything goes well with your hair.
I will be doing my next relaxer myself because I din't ask for 3 inches off my hair in march(mainly the back and sides). Iasked for a trim not a whole new hair style. Like other have stated gather all the info you need to DIY and practice, practice, practice.

Try practicing with conditioner first, if you are going to be applying your own relaxer. Base your scalp and protect your previously relaxed strands. Good Luck!

Okay...soooo why did you proceed to let him relax your head with a different relaxer than you normally use?

Well, I was 11 weeks post with wonderful new growth and I've been nurturing my ends like crazy. I had zero breakage and was only sheddnig a few hairs a day.

well DUUHHH! Relaxers are going to burn! Why didn't you ask him to base your scalp first?

So, still no excuse. You should have spoke up. Get out of the chair if the hairdresser doesn't have your undivided attention. He should be focused on you, not his 3 guy friends.

85 bucks!? WOW!

Thanks for the support ladies.

Imma Try to run through some of your questions and comments.

1.No this wasn't the first time I've been to this stylist. When I started going to him I loved him he was VERY professional and my hair was wonderful, but he's just gotten lax and ghetto in the past 6 months and that just won't due.

2.RELAXERS DON'T HAVE TO BURN! I've gotten many relaxers which didn't burn, and when I relax myself they never burn.

3.$85 isn't uncommon. Some places charge much more. When I first started using him I thought it was worth it, but now I'm realising I can do my hair BETTER for less.

4. I'm washing tonight with neutralizing poo and I'm going to use ApHogee or Porosity Control.

5. Yes, I should have spoken up in the chair, but I have his email, and I'm gonna let him know that I wasn't happy with this visit and won't be coming back.

6. Happy to be a DIYer! Thanks for the welcome.

Well I guess it was a long time coming then. I don't know if this makes sense, but "Your attitude determines your aptitude." In case, if he wasn't behaving in a professional manner, then much less should be expected of his styling. Well, don't lose hope. Your hair can be turned around. I was kind of scared that my hair would be a disaster, but it wasn't. It was dry as hell for about a week, then I changed some things and now its back to normal, if not better then ever!! The neutralizer poo and PC might do the trick. HTh

Girl you don't have to email him anything. he did not give you the courtesy of telling you he was gonna crispy up ur hair. Just don't go back and take care of your own hair. I go to a stylist occasionally and I limit what she does to my hair. I went to someone this week, i would not let her comb the roller curls out I left with the curls (in the shape of the rollers). not that she was bad I trust no one fully with my hair. I relax my hair myself. You need to neutralize and DC and use Porosity control. Good luck.

Here here!

Do it yourself. You will save money and you won't have to go through that mess. There are only two people who I trust to do my relaxer besides myself and one of those people is a board member. Like CAP, and the others said, print out self relaxing tip threads. I tape the instructions from southerngirl on my mirror as I work and practice with cholesterol and a tint brush. Neutralize and deep condition to revive your hair. Like Delta said, go to the spa with the money you save; Shoot, a facial is less than 85 bucks.

GO GET YOUR MONEY REFUNDED. Insist and you can get it done.
They might even surprise you and cooperate without making you BLACK-OUT!

I'm so serious!:angry2:Call first and let them know what happened and why you are displeased and then go there and get your money back.

Repeat business and word of mouth is the bread & butter of the hair salon.
They cannot allow you to have a bad experience without attempting to meet your needs. :look:

Good point!:yep: Get a refund. Talk to the stylist in person, so he KNOWS not to do those things to anybody else in the future.

mmmhmmm. you shol' will save money. I spent $7 on my relaxer, did it myself this morning and I'm pretty happy with my results. that's 8.23% of what you spent! and I didn't have to leave the comfort of my home!

While you certainly don't HAVE to email him, it may be a good way to get the whole incident off your chest. Also, it just might save some one else, he may get on his P's and Q's after losing a customer. He will probably offer you more services, but do not ever return, ever. This is what I did after my hair was dissolved off my head by horrid relaxing job, and I did it 2 months later at that! She emailed me back, and we had our back-and-forth over email, and I at least got an apology and my money back because she knew she was dead wrong.

I doubt he'd give me my money back, but I'm the kinda person that when someone upsets me I have to let them know or it just eats away at me. So Imma let a brutha know summin.

It's just weird cause the ONLY time my perms burn is when he does them...if one of his assistants does them it never burns. If I do it it never burns. I just don't know...him and his smoking flat iron need a word.

Thats a luxury within itself. I relax my hair on my sofa in my pjs and usually eat ice cream while I am under the dryer.

The same thing happen to back in feb and I paid her 70 or 75 like 4 days after I ran my fingers threw my hair and it was in my hand so I said no more and it gave my a reason to do what I had been wanting to do for a long time go natural again

i understand your pain. i had a bad situation with my last relaxer which was about two weeks ago. i walked out of the salon without her finishing my hair. i have decided to try to do my own relaxers now. i used to think it wasn't safe because i am no professional, but it seems like these days professional stylist don't know anymore than i do.
