Thank you Macherieamour and.... (pics inside)

Thanks ladies for all the nice comments! You guys really are the GREATEST! Roller sets are now my new love... move over buns because I've found my new low manipulation style. :D

I know your are probably sick of hearing that your hair is so shiny....But it is:eek:

Do you dye your hair jet black?

How often do you relax?

Texlaxed?

TIA

My stylist does a jet black semi-perm whenever I remember I want one. LOL! That ends up being about 2x a year and the last time was about 4-5 months ago.

I just started back relaxing in may of last year after trying to transition... eased back into it with texlaxing, but prefer relaxing and as of my last touch up I relax straight.

I relax every 10-12 weeks. Again, when my hair speaks to me and tells me she needs it. I don't do any self chemicals; too lazy for that. I just rather pay my hair care specialist. :)

 alll da hair! very pretty

LOL! I never thought I had thick hair until my thick haired friend told me I have thick hair and then I had ALOT of shedding and my hair thinned out while trying to transition. I gave up on transition less than a year ago and I'm STILL recovering and hoping that my thickness comes back to it's former self.

It's funny how you TRULY don't miss something until it's almost gone! Not complaining, but I want it back to what it was. Being patient though.

THANKS to ALL THE LADIES for your thoughtful and sweet compliments and comments.

WOW! Coming from you, that's amazing! Girl, from which direction to roll to how to clip, your directions were ON POINT! I've tried sets at home before but they NEVER came out right and I've always had to just brush them out. I went out to the store today and with all the bounce and shine a lady asked where do I get my hair done. I should have told her Macherieamour's Long Hair Care PALACE!

Wow! Im glad they were helpful:) I cant take credit tho because I just watched the Dominicans and combined all the tips I learned on LHCF posts. But I just wanted to have everything I learned in one comprehensive tutorial.

Im thinking about doing a video:look: for the "visual" folk out there. Itll be hella low budget but oh well:lol:

Girl no matter how low budget, we ALL would watch! I guess I never paid much attention to how the Dominicans set my hair. I am however paying more attention to your blog. :D

Very pretty!

Thank you Macherieamour and the person who listed her blog a couple of days ago re: roller sets!

Girl! I did my at home roller set last night using your tips and it's the best at home roller set I've EVER had! I ended up sleeping in my rollers because my hair wasn't dry before I went to sleep. I'll attach some pics I just took after taking out the rollers this AM. When I have another person in front of me I'll have them take some better ones.

BTW, I'm about 2 months post relaxer.

THANK you, thank you, thank yoU!

BTW, I used the hint to only use leave in and plenty of water. I use NTM silk leave in and I did add a bit of NTM serum while my hair was wet, and that was it! I also used the jumbo rollers not the grey ones because my hair is only a few inches past shoulder and I wanted to have curls for a couple of days.

EDITED: I took more pics after lunch and you can see how the curls are starting to fall a bit, but I haven't really pulled them out.

Please excuse my dry/ crazy looking face. This was just taken moments ago!

/wow. I just bought the mask. Now I'm going have to try the leave-in.

Girl, I use the whole line now! I LOVE it! Fits my budget AND works on my hair... I'd say that's winner for me! :)

I have tried rollersets twice and neither one ever turned out like yours. I ended up brushing the dry-looking damp hair into a bun.

Macheriamour or Famu Diva, I read the tutorial, but I am a visual person.
I need to see each section being rolled up as you go. When I saw your rollerset, It was completely already done.

I get the part about making a mohawk and rolling upwards, but from there I lose it. How do you roll the sides, your blog says to start fartherst from the face, do you mean in the back. Then you said to roll up. So are you taking the hair on the left/right side, combing it towards the neck, then rolling up towards the ceiling?

Please help

That's exactly what I did. I assumed that was what she meant, so that's how I did it. Basically think about how Don King combs his hair from forward (best example I can think of), that's how my rollers were going.... Just like Macherie's but smaller rollers. The way I did the sides was after the mohawk, I sectioned the right/left side into 3 vertical sections. Then in each section, I parted horizontally as you would to get a small section of hair to roll. I then started rolling from the bottom just like I did the mohawk in the section that was furthest from my face. I did the same way for all three sections. The thickests sections (away from face) had about 3-4 rollers based on my thickness and the size of my rollers. In the front there may have been like 2-3 rollers.

I'm not sure if this is all making sense, but based on your post it sound like you have it. I think the biggest tips she gave for me was direction, drenching the hair as you roll, and using minimal products (I like bouncy sets). The last times I tried I was using setting lotion, mousses, and whatever else product folks said worked. This time I used plain old water AFTER I applied my leave in and serum (as I normally would have). I had my water in a spray bottle and kept spraying as I moved to different sections.

GOOD LUCK!

Awww FAMUDva your hair looks absolutely lovely!! I love the color, shine, and texture...gosh my washday is Thursday...guess I'm going to have to try rollersetting again:look:!

Absolutely beautiful!! Its amazing what water, NTM silk leave-in and serum will do. Did your curls fall at all? I'm curious 'cause you didnt put any setting lotion in your hair.

the direction was a little tricky for me too. so do you roll each section (the mohawk, and the left/right 3 sections) upwards towards the ceiling? should any section be rolled under/downward?

I rolled everything upward toward the ceiling in the same direction. Only 2 rollers difffered in direction for me and those were the front 2 of the mohawk. I just couldn't get my rollers to sit well in the front, so I had to roll them in the opposite direction. But all the others were up toward the ceiling.

Great Job fellow alumni! :) You've got me wanting to go home tonight try roller setting again! I gave up on it a long time ago because I was no good at it. Guess I have to be patient and keep practicing!:)
