Taren gets Heat Damage!!!

Dayum man, heat damage strikes again! I can't even remember the last time I straightened my hair. Everytime I get the urge these threads stop me I in my tracks.

I love her hair. I think she's also Jamaican/white like me :D. My heat damage laughs at her head damage, that's nothing that can't be repaired by some deep conditioning. She'd better not cut!!

Ok I will confess not a Taren follower, but I have seen some of her videos and in one she mentioned that she didn't use heat protectant (this was a past video in which she had heat damanage). I don't see why she is a Youtube star, some of her techniques are a bit lacking (that's what I don't follow).

Not to be insulting but I have straighten my hair pretty much regularly for a year and I know other naturals that do at well. I have fine strands and this has not happened to me, not branging, it just showed its about technique. My real fear is that someone will copy her techniques and ruin their hair. I agree with lovely locks, some one with her texture should rollerset.

So sorry to taren and her followers. Not trying to be brash and I hope that the damage isn't permanent, but if you play wtih the hot stuff you need to know what you're doing.

Kimmaytube is that you? :giggle:

*Taren followers will understand  :look:

I replied to her video. Hope she doesn't big chop.

Real talk, if she had been prepping her hair properly from the start and using her tools correctly this wouldn't have happened. Keep in mind that a lot of her hair is color-treated, and she was treating it like it was chemical free, which is a huge NO-NO.

She needs to do regular deep conditioning (a mix of proteins/moisture) and get regular trims till the pieces grow out. Otherwise it's really no big deal. Hope she learns that her hair needs more attention than she was giving it. If she does continue to straighten she just needs to learn how to do it properly based upon her hair's current condition [though I agree she may want to lay off a bit now].

She did an update video which stated she got her curls back.:look: I think she didn't deep condition her hair enough until she thought she had damage. I'd love to have hair that long and lush.:yep:

Look at the date on that "update" video. This is not the first time she has had a passing glance at heat damage.

That's unfortunate, hopefully she won't have to cut a lot if she decides to go that route.:ohwell:

OT: I need you to get a fotki for me to stalk!

OMG look at tis video..
YouTube - Kinky Curly "Knot Today" Update...

Her curls are definitely different! And from what i have seen, damaged curls do not spring back! Especially if the curls were looser to start with.

And is it me or does she look like Gina from Martin:look:????

First of all sho' you right (lol throwback to Martin) on the Gina comment lol :yep: maybe minus the apple head loll
but the first part of your comment YOU ARE ENTIRELY RIGHT!
I have her hair texture, but thicker, and before I had a forced bc (a woman put chemicals in my hair and it started falling out in clumps- I was natural WL) I had straightened my hair probably about 10 times since I originally BC'd back in '06.. my texture got so FLAT and FRIZZY- no amount of dc'ing (even Aveda, mind you), hot oil treatments, silk scarves, etc., will bring your hair back, especially when it's this texture...

IMHO if she doesn't want to do a severe BC (though if she did this, she should baby her hair, never use heat again etc.,), I would do as another poster rec'd and do mini chops as her hair grows out, abandon the heat, step up the protein treatments (to make the NG stronger), stop combing hair while wet (and NO brushing) and start dc'ing AT LEAST once every two weeks...just to prevent future damage...I would also stay away from dyes, henna, coconut and lime treatments, etc., these can also rid her hair texture of it's natural curl and flatten it out progressively...:yep:

dang, i didn't know diffusing caused heat damage. learn something new everyday!

Me neither! :ohwell: lol
Hmmm I think it probably only backfired for her because she religiously used heat via diffusing and I think a couple times on there she straightened it fully (I watched her on and off for a minute but I can't remember if this was her)...

Its truly a shame to potentially have to BC all of that gorgeous, beautiful hair... but it's so hard with her hair texture to retain curl, especially as it gets longer...

That looks like more damage than just some DC's to fix. She straightens quite a bit. Hopefully she'll cut back on that, and focus more on protecting her hair than constantly wearing it out/diffusing/flat ironing. I rarely see her focus on retention/protection/growth. It's mostly styling with her. That comes with a price...

I didn't know either I just bought a diffuser, but anyway obviously she needs to lay off the heat ASAP. If anything she should get a 2inch cut and baby her hair from there and if necessary do mini chops if dc with protein/moisture doesn't help. From personal experience dc'ing with protein/moisture can only do so much but its better to start there than do a bc right away.

Kimmaytube is that you? :giggle:

No, I don't watch Kimmaytube either, for the reason that most people don't. Again Kimmay doesn't have a lot of "technique" either other than different protective styles and how to wash your hair.
We don't treat out hair similarly so there isn't much reason for me to watch, if I didn't what she did my hair would have more SSK than it already does.

If you listen to her story of pH balancing it is all something she read in a book and is reguritating. I book I read a long time ago. Guess Im just not into the vlogers to be fare.

i dont see it lol...to me she looks like the singer Mya

She sounds like Tisha Campbell but she looks like Maya.

I guess I didn't learn from her mistake cuz I just saw her diffusing video and I'm about to try it out!

 How funny that there was a video response to this!

So, she doesn't have a job? ... joking.

I like her. I really do, but I don't think she should be giving financial advice, etc. either. :ohwell: Poor thing.

Maybe she will get a tv show or a cd like Cassie?

good pitch Taren.... a pitch nonetheless, i likey
