I checked my calendar and noticed that I am approaching 33 weeks post relaxer. It has been almost 8 months since my last relaxer. What to do with my hair after I take my twists out get more twists and wait until November for my next relaxer. Anybody else out there stretching this long?

I'm am stretching until right before Christmas! My last relaxer was on March 7. I will keep my hair in different braided styles or in kinky twist. That's the only way I can stretch my relaxers.

I plan on stretching until October. Well, that was until I just looked at my calendar :perplexed ... whew, that's a long way away  . If I make it, that w/put me at 36 weeks *im 19 now*.

I was going to stretch until the end of October, but I think I will stretch until right before Christmas. I am 4 inches away from full WL and expect to reach that and more by the time I'm done.
When we finally touch-up were are going to  at how long our hair is. I can't wait!! :)
This should be turned into a long-term stretchers support thread.

I'm pulling for you. If I could get to WL by Christmas......... :D
I'm at BS... just hovering right above or right at depending on the bra. I had real ugly ends.. so I cut some back.

Wow. 4 inches by Christmas... I wish.

Aww, thanks. :) I'm so happy 'cause it felt like I stayed at BSL forever, and I went from APL to BSL so fast I thought it was gonna be like that all the way to HL! So now that I'm seeing some movement I decided to shock myself and stretch for awhile so I can stop watching the pot boil..

I'm pulling for you for WL too!

I am almost scared to relaxed this late in the game I don't know but I am going to be 40 weeks post relaxer when I take my hair down and I dont indeed to relax until October which will make it 50 weeks by then.

I would love to stretch until close to my wedding in November (last texlax was in April), but my hair is already looking crazy and it has barely been 8 weeks. We will see. I would probably have to switch from wash n go's to a twistout or rollerset (w/ roots flat ironed) so I wouldnt have to manipulate my hair almost everyday. Wash n' gos work as long as I dont comb it very often and at the same time watch it to make sure its not knotting up (and if thats happening I have to get a conditioner with good slip and carefully detangle it). Usually when Ive stretched in the past I wore half wigs or phony pony's but Im proud of myself for getting past my dependance on weave and embracing/appreciating my own hair. That was a big step for me! Anyway, I went off on a tangent but my point is I plan to stretch for as long as I can but the ballgame is a little different when I wont be using any hair pieces to help me.

This is amazing! I wanna stretch this long but how on earth are you ladies detangling and preventing breakage!!!??? What products and techniques are you all using...Please share!

I think Sareca stretched for like 9 months but I believe she's texturized. Maybe you can talk to her? The longest I ever made it was about 23 weeks. And then I decided to chop my hair. I usually would dc and then detangle with conditoner once I took the braids down. I waited a week or two to relax though.

WOW. You are my she-ro. Are you thinking of transitioning??

You ladies are an inspiration to me! Wow, this will be my first stretching session and I'm planning on going for 12 weeks only, but if it's still managable by then, I will stretch for as long as I can. I know it's good for my hair to stretch between relaxers, so we'll see after my ticker's complete

Goodness! You ladies make me feel like a wimp when it comes to stretching...I can't seem to even get past 9-10 weeks at times. Good Thread.

thanks sugarose.

?- are ya'll 30 weeks plus stretchers wearing braids?
If so, do you remember at what point in your stretch you decided to braid it up? I'm trying to figure out if there are any signs I should look for. You know something that will indicate it's time for braids.

It is in the back of my head to do so.

Me too. That's another reason why I'm going on this long stretch, so maybe I can finally make up my mind about transitioning.

YES AND YES I couldn’t do it without the braids. If I didn’t have the braids I would walk around with 3 different hair textures slicked back in a bun

If so, do you remember at what point in your stretch you decided to braid it up? Yes I document it all on my calendar with this set of twists I was only 24 weeks post

I stretch for 6 to 7 months most times but I'm going to stretch for a year. I'm going to TeX right before my wedding next summer.

I'm only 5 week post right now. When my hair start to look like a bad wig when I wear it down then it's time for braids. Which will be in about 7 or 8 more weeks. I'm trying to have all the fun i can with my hair right now because once I put my micros back in I don't see my hair for 6 to 7 months.

Again I would like to take my hair down and wear it out but the different textures plus this humidity isn't going to work for me. I have success with bunning I normally do my hair breathe before I put in the next set of twists.

Thanks ya'll. Ok. I pretty much wear a bun, but I've never stretched 30 weeks plus before. So really (based on the posts) it wasnt about breakage... it was about style. In other words, when my bun/pony gets to looking a HAM... time for braids.

Same here. I haven't had a relaxer in 6 months. I've been wondering if I should continue to transition or get my next relaxer in December 2007.

I was also thinking about transitioning too. It would have too be texalized though. That is the only way. I'll see how my hair looks at the end of my stretch.

My last relaxer was Nov. 25, 2007. Therefore, I am approaching post-seven months since my last relaxer. It has been "tough". I am currently wearing braids an that has been helping me the most during this transition. I have been having my own hair braided in a simple bunn style with extenstions only on the ends. I have been able to moisturize my scalp/ hair. For months, I wore roller sets and pressouts with a flat iron. My reason for the transition was not planned. I had my hair colored back in late October and it basically left me with alot of hair breakage. My shoulder length went to neck length!! I was so upset that I just lost faith in hair stylist. I do have "alot of new growth" and the bad color job is growing out. I have had alot of breakage, but the "damage color ends" needs to go anyway!!

I know alot of posters have been discussing baggy and taking care of the ends, but in my case - I have been giving alot attention to my roots/ scalp!

I will be stretching for at least 53 weeks...I had my last relaxer Dec. 20, 2006, and won't have another until the babies are born December 29

ETA: i don't know what I'll be doing after that point. I have entertained the thought of doing a BC NOW and starting locs, since I have about 3-4 inches of new growth all over, or trim 1/2 an inch per month until there are NO relaxed ends and then cncentrating on natural/healthy hair growing, or trimming as I grow, and relaxing the hair with a new head of hair. I don't know yet, I just know that I'm not going to relax as long as I'm pregnant

You can do it! I used to be afraid of stretching, I was one of those touch-up every 4 weeks girl even while a member on this board. I can't say my hair suffered because of it, since I was very good at not overlapping, but my scalp!! Those chemicals are no joke, and thinking of the damage that I've heard about and can only image made me decided to start stretching.
Now I actually look foward to seeing my texture everyday.
